3/5Great concept but...
Unfortunately there isn’t enough jobs to make a real living. I live in Cleveland, Ohio and there are so many hospitality options out here yet Upshift offers a small fraction. If you’re not into banquet serving or have experience as a cook there will not be many options to choose from. You’re lucky if you get chosen for a shift at all. So many people use the platform yet there is limited work. On a positive note, the shifts that are there have great payouts, you can make up to $15/hr. I love how you are in control of clocking in and out, and that you get complete info about each shift before applying for it. The app is very easy to use. You are able to keep track of shifts you’ve applied to, got accepted for, and completed. You are even able to rate each shift after clocking out. There also opportunities to get hired permanently or become a regular upshifter at a specific location. You get paid every Friday as a w2 worker. All in all the app is great, I just wish there was more to offer.

2/5Totally Becoming Irrelevant
I started working for upshift back in 2018. I have taken a few years off. Honestly, even back then it wasn’t my first choice for gig work, but it was at least an option. There were several others in the area so if one app was slow, you can just get work on a different app. I miss that. Within this last year I have been using upshift a lot more. It still a way to get work when pressed, but it has its slow weeks. Which makes it difficult to have a consistent pace. It’s been dead for the last 3.5 weeks. The “available shifts” are not really available. You can apply, but a lot of the companies already have certain workers in mind who they will accept. So it’s unfair because you can actively apply for shift and not be accepted. Lately, I have got accepted for the last 8 shifts that I applied for and I have a 4.9 rating out of 5 stars. The review about the health insurance by Madehjion is true. Their health plan doesn’t cover jack, not even prescription meds but they take out $25/ week which is $100/ month and it’s hard to get them to stop if you opt out of it. I have tried contacting them and they keep saying it’s a 3rd party insurance and their hands are tied. The insurance company has been ignoring my emails and phone calls. Also the app is outdated and I don’t foresee upshift having much of a viable future in the next 2 years. The pay is low and the jobs are lousy.

1/5Terrible.
I worked 3 shifts with them and got suspended. I still don’t know if I will receive pay from those 3 shifts. First reason it’s terrible is because it’s mainly based on the time the manager clocks you in. So my 1st strike came because the manager clocked me in 15 minutes later then I arrived. Also the app didn’t notify me of this strike so I could appeal it. 2 more Strikes came because I accidentally clocked back in after I clocked out, once you clock out the BRIGHT BLUE clock in button is still there and this was my first shift so I pressed it again because it’s confusing, then I realized I didn’t need to press it again and I tried to clock out but it said “wait 30 minutes to clock” so I waited so then I received 2 strikes for “falsifying timesheet”, again didn’t get a notification for those either. Another terrible thing is that your “permanently forever banned” because of 3 strikes.. 3? There are a million circumstances that can make you late or no show, or clock in late or clock out late. Your phone could die, misplace your phone, phone stolen, power outage, there could be traffic or an accident, or medical concern. I live in Atlanta GA and there’s ALWAYS traffic everywhere and always some kind of accident, a 30 minute drive can easily turn into an hour. Also I showed proof on how I didn’t deserve these strikes but of course no response or only automated ones. Which I don’t understand that because it’s such a small app, how can’t you have correct customer service when you barely have any customers?????

1/5First of all..
First of all what Kind of employment service provider builds an assessment that only “12 percent” of people can pass? Sounds like you are using fear and intimidation to try to pass your self off as a bigger player then you may think in your small niche of services. Also why on earth would I waste time stepping in to your office for a “chance” at working with this company when there is Instawork and Qwick that can do my onboarding completely online with much higher success rates. I think this company belittles its potential client base right off the bat by assuming more of themselves then necessary. I only opened the app for five seconds and was already disgusted at the lack of genuine care that was made on their part to accommodate their “12 percent success pool” of clients that they are claiming to have. They literally shot themselves in the foot before they even have a chance to showcase their worth. They expect just because they are one of millions of job apps on the App Store that they are entitled to their narcissistic behavior. I didn’t give them more than five seconds of my time completely based on their own self indulgence. And I recommend anyone who is seriously considering the powerful tool of flexible work not to either. Never have I seen more arrogance right off the bat then by this company. Someone at whatever headquarters they claim to have needs to think very long and hard about how long they want to be in whatever race they think their in because I can tell you now it won’t last long.

1/5Unnecessary Extra Strikes
I received a notice today that I had been suspended from Upshift. The first time I got a strike was simply because I had to drive from Fort Lauderdale to Miami in very terrible weather conditions. It was storming really badly. I even tried my best to go, but could not see anything while driving, so I decided against it last minute to avoid getting in a car accident. Since there is no way I can call to let someone know why I had to cancel, I had no other choice but to cancel through the app and risk getting a strike. The second incident was because I had misread what the uniform requirements were. I had confused the uniform for a last shift I had with the shift I had today and, unfortunately, was sent home. I was supposed to wear a black shirt, but had a white shirt on instead since it was the uniform for the last shift. I was sent home for this which is understandable. However, I received a third strike for leaving early, but this decision was out of my control because the manager asked me to leave. Unfortunately, because of this, I was forced to clock out before 3pm. Which, in turn, caused an account suspension. It hasn’t even been a week since I got hired and am already suspended.
