1. 1/5Failure of a security app. Save yourselves.

   If you haven’t already heard, Authy recently got hacked, leaking 33 MILLION phone numbers. And the worst part is, this isn’t even the first time such a MASSIVE incident has occurred in this dubious 2FA app’s history. In August 2022, a similar incident occurred, leading to similar consequences. Twilio, riddle me this. You already knew that there were flaws in your “security” app, right? You knew that the hacking meant that something was wrong, something had to change, and further measures had to be taken in order to prevent such a huge breach from happening again, right? CLEARLY NOT! You guys let the SAME EXACT THING, PROBABLY EVEN DONE BY THE SAME EXACT HACKERS, HAPPEN TWICE! SEVERAL millions of consumers, including me, relied on this flawed security app to protect not only their accounts, but also their personal information. And you couldn’t even ensure it stayed that way. Now millions of people have their numbers probably in the dark web somewhere, along with god-knows-what-else, leaving them even less “secure” than ever. What a joke! For me, it didn’t even end there. Now knowing just how badly I could be spammed with robo calling from whoever has my leaked number, I went to delete my Authy account in order to move to another authentication application, since I can no longer trust Authy and Twilio in this scenario. Then, I was hit with even more trouble when Twilio decided to lock me out of my own account for seven days. Locked out of the account I OWN. With MY DATA. For SEVEN DAYS. With absolutely NO WAY to appeal. I highly doubt this is even legal, and this absolutely solidified my decision to never use this app, or anything made by this corporation, again. Do not use Authy. Do not use Twilio products. If you do, you’re putting your security, privacy, and sanity at risk. Even a 2FA app made by some random shady company is probably more secure than this junk.

   This is a very secure way to protect your account. There’s no one that can log into your account. I absolutely hate the horrible, almost indecipherable, fuzzy, hard to see pictures showing crosswalks, stairs, bicycles, cars , brudges, or motorcycles that I have to keep proving I am not a robot every time even after logging in from my same phone 1000 times!!!! It still thinks I am a robot using my cell phone and same ip, which is face ID protected anyway. Then the entire log in us also face-ID protected. .Then I have to get busy copy/pasting security numbers , using Face ID, switching from Authy to my exchange with a 15 second window of opportunity. My clipboard no longer wirks so I have to remember the 7 digit number. In order to withdraw money, I have to log in to Gemini app and go to Authy, find Authy messages, open message and approve my withdrawal. All in all, its very hard to use and I cuss a lot, but no one can get into your account. After using Authy for years, it’s still hard to use. But it’s super secure!! You won’t get in for a while either while you are figuring out how.

3. 4/5The update that overhauled the UI was trash. I’m glad they rolled it back

   I opened Authy to the terribly done UI overhaul today and was about to email them about it then I saw that there was an update today so I downloaded it. Thank goodness they rolled it back. The icons were unnecessarily oversized making it so you couldn’t read the names for when you have multiple for the same website. That is a huge downgrade but the worst was it didn’t appear that you could rearrange the order of them any longer. I implore the devs to please not change the ui back to that in the future. Or at least make it possible to change the size of the icons so that they don’t waste so much screen space and the text will fit on the screen. Please don't ever consider removing the ability to rearrange the icons into whatever order you want them to be in either.

4. 3/5This redesign is trash

   I used to love Authy, but the recent new design pushed out to all users is absolute garbage. It looks like some kid mocked up an MVP of an auth app with no features, then they launched it, claiming it’s some new minimalist brand esthetic. No, it’s just minimal: minimal design effort, minimal thought to user experience, minimal care for how a person actually uses the app during their day. In the previous version, when you opened the app, you’d see last account you viewed, which was AWESOME. Now, when you open the app, the account you see by default is whatever just happens to be at the top of your accounts list. Which is ESPECIALLY annoying because the accounts in your list aren’t sorted in any discernible manner. It’s not alphabetical. It’s not in order of frequency of use. Not sure what it is. In all likelihood, they’re sorted by some hidden, internal-only unique identifier that only the app dev team can see. Or maybe, it’s some unique autobiographical sorting algorithm (shoutout to the movie High Fidelity). I did notice after some trial and error that you can drag the accounts around in the list (this isn’t documented anywhere, I just accidentally discovered it). Which might be fine if you have 4-5 accounts in the app. Sadly, I’ve got nearly 75, and sorting them by individually dragging and dropping individual icons is a PITA. Come on, y’all. Twilio, I expect more from you. ಠ_ಠ Keeping the overall review at three stars, only because it’s still the best auth app if the ability to transfer MFA accounts between devices is important to you.

5. 1/5Lost my trust

   I created a new 2fa account on a tablet but it did not show up on my phone. It shows up on another tablet just fine. I went to the Help in the app and typed in my issue. Help just sat there with a spinning wheel. I had time, since nothing was happening, so I read the info under the chat which said: “This Help Center Assistant is powered by OpenAI and may generate information that is inaccurate or otherwise does not meet your needs or expectations. You should independently verify this generated information prior to using it, as Twilio is not responsible for your use of this generated information. Any generated information will in no way modify your agreement with Twilio covering your use of Twilio’s platform. For information regarding how this chatbot processes and protects your personal information, please review Twilio's Privacy Notice” So the help I get from Twillio I cannot trust and I must get the help from someone else? Really? Seriously? This is a Security App, isn’t it? But I can’t trust it? Again, Really?
