  1. 4/5Thank you for listening!!

I am a longtime tumblr user and largely a tumblr mobile user, and the recent addition of the tumblr store to the app should have been exciting. But because the initial decision was to replace the button that takes you to your own blog with the store button, it wasn’t exactly something I was happy about. But when we complained that we need to go to our blogs much more than the store, staff listened, and now I can be happy the store is in app without reservations. Thank you! I understand the decision was partially made to raise awareness of the stores existence but it was irritating and doubtless some users will now never use the store out of spite, because that’s how tumblr users are. Now if only you can find some way to make it so the button that has always been the search button can remain the search button without making live invisible or inaccessible… probably best bet would be to put live in the search tab, rather than replacing the search tab altogether… I snooze live every week out of irritation at the removal of easy access to the search tab, but that means I’ve never looked into live or looked at what people are doing with it. I’m encouraged that the tumblr mobile staff have listened before, not only on the locations of the store button and blog button, but also to feedback about minor cosmetic changes. Maybe these suggestions will encourage changes to the way live is positioned in the app? I know theres been a lot of negative feedback about it…

  2. 5/5A Genuine, user-friendly experience

I truly believe that Tumblr is one of the least toxic social platforms on the internet. Tumblr is just a fun place where you can destress after a long day at work or school, most of the communities are super wholesome and the platform is just an overall uplifting place where people can talk about fandom, Comics, Fanfics, The latest shows, Art, Etc. I’m finally at peace with myself after they removed “Tumblr live” because now that it’s gone I don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting the useless button on my feed. Another thing to mention is that there are so many fandoms to find and explore with so much creativity and love put into each one. It’s also a great place to post your own art and fanfics with genuine nontoxic feedback unlike Reddit or Twitter. The only thing to note is the NSFW (not safe for work) content but I do appreciate that the site doesn’t show you that kind of content unless you search for it, yes once in a while your dashboard will show you a NSFW pic but it’s genuinely minimized unlike Reddit which will show you a NSFW post every couple scrolls, another thing I will warn you about is that you will get scam messages asking you to join NSFW sites but these messages can be deleted and in my experience will go away after awhile. I genuinely rate the app a five out of five and highly recommend for anyone who’s new to the internet or is interested in a genuine, wholesome social media platform.

  3. 4/5Great for writers but no content controls for communities

I’ve been writing here forever, but as a minor the changes tumblr has made has made it difficult to feel comfortable with the app. There’s no monitoring on spam tags for large posts, which is fine— except the posts often contain pornographic tags. For the last 3 months I have been dealing with some extremely disgusting fetish content and communities coming across my page— and the worst part about the communities? You CAN’T get rid of them; there is no option for being not interested. I’ve been faced with an extremely graphic example of bodily mutilation on my suggested communities tab. It was making me sick to open the search tab. I reported nearly 50 times, at least hoping it would stop being recommended to me. It was not. I had to unfollow every single tag and creator I had ever followed or followed back, spend time researching this fetish’s terms in order to block every single one on my filtered content, turn off dashboard preferences to randomized, and search an overload of other random things to FINALLY get it to go away. This was extremely disturbing on so many levels and I’m extremely, EXTREMELY upset that there is no way to get rid of these community suggestions if we don’t want to see them. As a long time user, I love tumblr. But the lack of ability to censor suggested communities is so disturbing and inappropriate. It’s just not ok.

  4. 3/5Frustrating App Refreshing

I’ve already done this with greater details, but it closed out and I’m annoyed so I’ll be a little bit brief. The app keeps completely refreshing itself and I just want to go back to before when this wasn’t happening. A week ago, I could be gone for hours and nothing would happen, I would even still be in the same place on my homepage. But now, I can’t even be gone for a few minutes before everything refreshes. And it doesn’t keep my place I had on my notification, search, or personal tab, the entire app refreshes and I completely lose my place everywhere. And you can only imagine how annoyingly frustrating that can be, because no one stays on one app for hours on end or all day. Everyone goes back forth, and now, it seems like we can’t even do that. And we could before, so this had to be implemented in one of past two updates. It has me wishing I ignored updating and left my Tumblr the way I liked using it. This makes me want to stay away from the iOS app and just stick with using it through my phone (Galaxy) where I don’t deal with this issue. And as much ads and the pop ups that like to bombard me about giving Tumblr money to stop said ads annoy me, the refreshing is worse to me. Because this isn’t instagram or Twitter (although Twitter rarely even does it), why are you being like them and trying to do this constant refreshing thing? Again, I just want to be able to use another app for more than three minutes, come back, and still be in the same place as I was before.

  5. 5/5I love tumblr I literally must blog everyday!

Tumblr is my favorite app, I have had my blog since 2012 now and I still can’t get enough. I love all the little people in my phone who like the same stuff as me and the ones who like different things as well because I like being exposed to so many people. And it’s so intimate, the way people talk on there and share the little details of their lives, it’s not like instagram where everyone wants to show off and put up a front about who they are, tumblr is a safe space to share the things you may not tell everyone, but you can anonymously blog about your life. I think it’s amazing how connected I am to my mutuals on there, yet for most I have no idea what their name or face looks like, it’s like getting an exclusive look into a persons mind. Love love LOVE that. If I had one criticism it would be that I fell in love with the quick queue button, you know the one that’s like the quick reblog but instead you can seamlessly streamline getting posts set up in your queue instead of having to do it the long way. It made my blog so awesome and kept things fresh and interesting on there even when I may be busy with life or work. But in the latest IOS update it seems to have disappeared! I’m mourning my quick queue button everyday, so I thought I would include this here just on the off chance someone from tumblr hq sees this and takes mercy on me (oh and if you’d be so kind as to restore messaging and being able to comment on my blog that would be awesome too!) Anyways, tumblr is the perfect app for me, thank you for all the years and memories!
