  1. 4/5Edits would be nice

I’m super happy with THS. We have used it so many times and have always had such a great experience and met some really wonderful people. My only complaint is there doesn’t appear to be any way to make app and improvement suggestions, so I guess I’ll put it here and hope that somebody sees it and passes it on to the developers. A feature that would be super useful would be to be able to edit dates in the middle of a sit. For example, our plans changed, and our sit went from 10 days to five days and then I got sick and ended up coming home after two. The sitter and I worked it out privately and it was no problem on either end of ours, everyone left happy. She even ended up picking up another sit. But now, her dates look like they are overlapping. It’s not a big deal but it would have been better to be able to just edit everything so that we could close the sit out and do our reviews before she moves onto the next one. It’s still another five days before we can do our reviews. Just a suggestion that I’m hoping can get passed on. Thank you so much!

  2. 1/5Impossible to cancel

I set up one account and use Trusted Housesitters one time last year. The process itself is somewhat clunky and laborious, but it’s doable. There were problems setting it to my exact location as it kept using the nearest major city, so I was getting many responses thinking they were going to San Francisco for a house sit. Getting closer to the sit, I went to my hometown and found sitters and asked them each if they were available on my selected dates. I was lucky enough to get a wonderful couple. The sit went well and my pet was well cared for. The ongoing problem is I have been trying unsuccessfully to delete my account ever since. There’s no direct delete button. They keep pausing and auto-renewing my membership. There’s no way that I can find to delete it, nor can I remove my form of payment. Each and every time I think I’ve canceled, a few months later I will get another email saying it’s about to unpause and auto renew, despite multiple emails on my part telling them my cat has died and I will not get another pet. Therefore, I do not need their service nor will I need it in the future. I’ve had to dispute charges with my credit card. I’ve spent a lot more time trying to deal with Frankie, the non-assistive virtual assistant, and they only communicate in emails, which is laborious and annoying. I cannot recommend this service as the amount of irritation and labor on my part to try to deactivate account was much more difficult than the service itself was worth.

  3. 2/5App is fine, coverage plan and customer service are terrible

We used Trusted HouseSitters for the first time when we were gone for five days. The sitter who watched our dogs did a great job, we came home to content dogs, and a decently clean house. However, she had messaged us the last night that she had burned something in the microwave. When we got home the entire house smelled like it had been on fire and our microwave drawer no longer worked. I reached out to trusted house sitters to submit a claim because it is a microwave drawer and it no longer works (not to mention we have spent hours cleaning to try to get the smell out of our house). I was told I need to first submit this on homeowners insurance and show proof that homeowners insurance won’t pay the claim and then I was told that it will not be covered because they only cover things over $1000. The microwave drawer we have is over $2,000 and then requires installation because it’s framed in our cabinets, but they never once asked details- I guess they just get to make up whatever value benefits them. After doing more research, I’ve seen a lot of people on other forums say that they do not cover anything that they say their coverages will cover. Overall it’s nice to be able to search for house sitters but their coverage seems to be a complete scam and it takes well over a week to get any type of response.

  4. 3/5No direct line of communication

I had a good feeling about this app with the background checks and the housesitting positions looked really great however after paying $129 which is not a small fee...I find two gigs that I like are close to me and longer term house sits. I apply to them but if they they don't get back to me or they don't read it or they don't have their app notifications on so there's NO way to directly contact home owners through email or phone?! Now, I think that is really unfortunate because I am able- I am ready-I'm verified- I did a background check and I paid a good amount of money (!) to be a house-sitter. Why doesn't Trusted House Sitters offer an option to mediate if home owners don't get back to you after a week? Because this way it just looks like a money scam. You take all these subscription fees and then leave us without any means of contacting the gigs that we apply for. That's easy money and I really don't like that! At the very least if there is no direct communication possible you should be able to notify Trusted housesitters that you didn't get a response and they should be able to mediate.... whether through phone or email to remind the homeowner that somebody applied to their opening!!! Not a good look, I'm sorry.

  5. 1/5Not what it used to be

I loved TH, despite some mixed experiences, until the latest update. Some people understand the nature of the exchange, others think they have a free ride to a cool spot with no strings attached. As a house owner, taking the interview process seriously is CRITICAL to your success with the platform. Which brings me to… why ON EARTH would TH decide to limit the amount of applicants that you can get for a sit? We have a fussy cat and we know that because he is cute and we are in location in high demand, people who are not prepared to care for him will apply to do so regardless of how detailed our sit description is. “Throw my name in the hat” applications, not even a line to say hello, clog our inbox and prevent more experienced sitters from applying. This is a material change and I cannot believe it was approved without member input or opt-in. Essentially, we went from a full pool of applicants (or ‘free market’ between sitters and owners where you could truly apply and select whoever was the best match) to a limit of FIVE APPLICANTS. I literally cannot believe a good product was allowed to turn into inconvenient trash so quickly- it’s night and day in user experience. We were happy users and had recommended many a friend to consider TH for future travels and now not only will not recommend but we will likely not renew our premium membership. I hope they switch back before they lose all their members, because forcing people to match quickly rather than ensuring a good fit is only going to lead to disastrous sits and lots of complaints to them.
