  1. 5/5Love it, Live it, Use it!! Just a small recommendation!

Hello ToonSquid team! I am so flabbergasted on how much this has helped me in animation! You guys have been putting in a lot of effort and I just love everything about it! With the key frames, symbols and easy animations for beginners, this app is just one of the best animation apps out there! But I’d also like to give out some recommendations! (I completely understand if it’s not compatible or supposed to be a function in the app). But I’d maybe think that when editing, there should be an option called “Skewer” it is basically like using the “Rasterize” tool but it can be in keyframes instead of frame-by-frame Animation. It can be used just like a distortion tool but the only change about it can be from a Rasterize tool to an actual Keyframe to allow it to skew / shear the animation with the symbols without being blurry, because in most cases for apps such as FlipaClip, it turns out super blurry each time animators skew / shear the frame every time, and I think it would be such a great improvement to ToonsSquid if they added that feature like Adobe Animate! Again, I completely understand if it’s not compatible or doesn’t fit in to what the app is intended to do or have. So that is why I’d think there should be a “Skew / Shear” feature for keyframes & symbols so that it can be way easier for people now! Reach out to this account if you can! Thank you so much! Keep up the amazing work, ToonSquid Team!

  2. 5/5Great

Pretty nice love the tween, unlike procreate which is a app for art that just so happens to have animation, this focuses on animation, if your a beginner or looking to try animation, I recommend FlipaClip, super simple and easy to learn, if your looking for stunning illustrations that can have a bit of animation, or to make beautiful animation that focuses on looks, go for procreate, there’s a sort of scale that comes to most software, the more advanced it is, the harder to do simple things but easier to do harder things, in this case toon squid isn’t for beginners in animation or for people who want to try it, but it makes animation a ton more efficient and easier for people who know what there doing, if you were using procreate or flipa clip to produce fast and relatively simple stuff, although it seems like FlipaClip will be the best for making lots of simple animations, it isn’t instead toon squid is the best, it makes animating simple lip sync SUPER EASY with its library and the fact you can save and reload stuff like mouths, and also making animations with simple movements very easy with its easy to use and learn tween, toon squid has the perfect middle ground between simple and advanced, and because its built for the ground up for animation by animators, it is super efficient, and offers extra

  3. 4/5Great, but awfully confusing.

I think so far as I’ve used it it’s great! Very versatile tools, many things to choose from, and a variety of brushes! One thing I can’t figure out is how to group layers, sometimes I do it on accident, and when I actually want to group a layer it doesn’t even when I put the layer right under. Also, if there was more of an indicate it was in that group that’d be great! Like an arrow, or indentation on the side? Another problem I have is whenever I make a new layer, or switch to the vector tool the color automatically turns white, which often makes me confused as I would wonder if my apple pencil is broken! I’m really mixed on your app, I personally find it harder to grasp than alight motion (strange isn’t it?) even if it seems light years easier! I think it’s a great app no doubt, much better than alight motion (since toonsquid is only a one time purchase with tons of stuff!!) but it doesn’t seem to be made for beginners. Yes, the more I use it the more I’ll probably get used to it but it’ll be very frustrating and confusing for beginners at the start! Also a suggestion, please make it so that you can also import stuff straight from your camera roll and not just your files!! For some reason I can’t add any audio clips from my files, it just won’t let me. So I’m forced to just add a video and lower the opacity TT… I still think it’s better than procreate dreams, flipaclip, and alight motion though! (In the animating aspect) great app, definitely deserves some more attention!

  4. 5/5Simply the best, most accessible animation app across all platforms or hardware in decades

I use this app day in and day out for personal and professional animation related work. Every time I open it up, I’m stunned it can do so much while costing so little, while being so accessible, feature-rich and artist-friendly. The sheer polish, flexibility of media export, intuitiveness in how it handles its layering system, canvas and camera… I really can’t say enough about how much this app gets right. I’d realized that I’d been so preoccupied working/learning the ins-and-outs of this app for the past 6 months that I never made time to write a review, and had to immediately correct that. In fact, if I could only leave one last 5-star review for any type of program, media, game or experience, it would be for ToonSquid. For the accessibility, the sheer empowerment this provides for hobbyists, students and professionals, it deserves all the success in the world and more. I feel greedy even wishing for a desktop version but it would be something I would absolutely re-buy in a heartbeat. If you have even the faintest interest in animation, storyboarding, or even a decently powerful drawing/editing app, run don’t walk to get ToonSquid.

  5. 5/5Absolutely incredible! Only one bug I’d like to address.

I adore this app, I’m a 14 y/o self taught artist and animator that started out on FlipaClip a few years ago. FlipaClip was the only app I could understand with its beginner friendly interface and simple tools; but as I grew in skill and explored other animation styles, I realized I wanted something more advanced, specifically with a tweeting/keyframe feature. I only use an iPad and couldn’t be able to afford anything like adobe animate, so when I found this app, I thought it was too good to be true. I’m still a beginner and this app has been challenging for me, but its powerful and effective tools totally blow me away. For example, I’m so happy that I can use drawing layers within animation layers so that I can make more detailed drawings with more control over what I draw and erase, without lowering animation quality or messing up the animation. I absolutely recommend using this app if you are an intermediate or professional animator who is looking for something both professional and useful yet affordable. However, like I mentioned in the title, there is one bug that has been bothering me. I started a new project recently and with some layers, I’m using keyframes. The keyframe toggle works perfectly fine for every animation frame but one. I’ve tried refreshing the app multiple times and toggling and untoggling the keyframe button repeatedly, but I’m still not able to access keyframes for that one layer. I had been able to access them earlier, and so I have some progress done, but there is some things I need to add/tweak and being unable to do so is throwing off the rest of the project. If you have any recommendations or comments I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your time and for creating such a beautiful and needed app for iPad users :)

  • 2.0.4

This update reintroduces the vector layer from ToonSquid 1 as the default drawing destination for vector brushes instead of always creating vector groups. It also disables the automatic vector group creation when adding path layers via the path tool or the shape library by default. Vector groups continue to be a powerful feature in ToonSquid 2.0 and you can choose to opt in to only working with vector groups in the ToonSquid settings by changing the "General > Vector Workflow Preference" setting to "Vector Group" and by enabling the "Tools > Path > Create Vector Groups" setting. You can now also choose to manually convert any vector layer to a vector group in order to access, edit and potentially animate the individual shapes inside, and you can convert vector groups to vector layers if you prefer to work with a singular layer instead of a group. Tap the vector layer / vector group and choose "Create Vector Group" / "Create Vector Layer". If you had previously opened an older project from ToonSquid 1 in ToonSquid 2 which had converted all of your vector layers to vector groups, you can convert all of them back into vector layers at once by following these steps: 1. Open the project. 2. Tap on "Actions" at the top. 3. Tap on "Settings". 4. Select the "Info" tab on the left. 5. Scroll down and select "Convert Vector Groups to Vector Layers".

Different export modes let you choose between exporting a single frame of your animation as a layered PSD, exporting the entire animation as an animated PSD with a "frame timeline" or a "video timeline", or exporting a sequence of layered PSD files - one for each frame of your animation. Supported PSD features include: - Pixel layers - Editable text layers - Exporting vector layers and path layers as editable shape layers - Group layers - Exporting symbol layers and animation clips as smart objects - And more… - Use the new "Import Images as Symbols" setting to control whether imported images should be inserted as a symbol layer or as a pixel layer in the timeline. - Use the new "Insert Images Into Existing Drawing" setting to control whether adding an image to the timeline should always create a new animation layer or not. - You can now use the "Separate Layers" drawing menu action to convert all drawing layers of a drawing into separate animation layers in the timeline. - Fixed the "Linear Light" blend mode to work correctly under all circumstances. - Fixed the import of certain ABR brush texture images which were previously not being imported correctly, causing streaks in the brush strokes. - Other bug fixes.
