A really fun incentive to practice more, especially after years of music school. Love that it tracks how long you practice, what you practice, and how often too. The “ranked” mode is pretty clever considering how many ppl play competitive games in their free time. Keeps me off of doomscrolling during my practice sessions. Also, pretty good for my students so I can track their practice; it pushes them to play more so they can unlock more cute things. Plus, no ads and everything is free. No paid progression, everything is unlocked by practice. It truly feels like it was made by musicians, for musicians. I wish that there were more clothes and customization for your lil avatar! Right now the outfits feel heavily aimed towards Classical players, but styles that fit other genres would be cool too like Rock, Hip Hop, etc. I like the room unlock progression, wish there were more styles. Other than that, this app is so cute and fun.

3/5Frustrating to use for voiceover users
I love the idea of listening to others practice to give them feedback and making your own practices, but it’s frustrating to do when using voiceover, which is the only way I am able to navigate on my screen. Ever since I got my first badge, music, lover, I am now not able to listen to other people‘s practices. I have reinstalled the app, but it still didn’t really work. And when it did, voiceover was very slow about reading the screen and performing different actions when I do certain commands. This one time, I was trying to tell the person who was practicing that something was cool. Since everything was super slow on the app, it was way too late to send the message I had created once it was ready. But there’s still one other part of the app, right? Which is making your own practices. That’s also hard to. Since I’m not very good at any of the instruments I selected, when I try to add a piece to my practice list, it doesn’t show up. Also, I’m pretty sure there’s an option to make your practice Private, which I would definitely love to do the first few times to get used to the layout. I didn’t see the button. Or at least, VoiceOver didn’t read it. And I know that practice tonic demo does that as well. So I can’t really use the app anymore. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make it perform better. oh. I guess I can only listen to people who I followed, but that’s fine.

4/5Great app
I really love this app. It’s incredible to have the opportunity to interact with THE Ray Chen! I learn & it’s motivating. I love the challenges. Everyone is always encouraging & positive. The only suggestion is making a rule for during open studios for people not to engage in their own personal side-bar conversations in chat. When Ray Chen has open studios, the same group of people use his open studio as their personal group chatroom & it really takes away from the experience. I have to sift through a bunch of unrelated personal messages to get to people’s comments & questions about Ray’s playing. It makes it harder to engage with Ray & makes it more difficult to get a chance for him to see a new person’s comment or question. & frankly I don’t want to read about people’s personal lives when having the chance to interact with Ray Chen. (I’m sure Ray doesn’t care to read about it either, mid-practice, when he’s sharing his time with us.) Maybe limit the amount of times someone can send a message in a period of time (or open a chat feature on the app where people can talk in private). Something! Thank you! Again, I love the app.

3/5Great app just needs better rules for games to be fair
This is an outstanding app. It’s hard to believe no adds and it’s free to use. Overall the community is very supportive. My kids have improved practice habits and their skill level in record time! It’s impossible to put a value on this. There are many different mini games within the app that help make it a lot of fun. Some do not play by the rules so it can take the fun out at times. This could be fixed if rules were actually enforced. I sent emails about cheating over a month ago with no response. I would recommend this app for kids but would recommend they stay away from the “challenges” until it can be a level playing field for all that participate. It can cause alot of discouragement and loss of respect for the moderators. It appears that they won’t enforce rules when they have their favorites that are breaking them unfortunately. I’m confident that these issues will be resolved with time. I believe Ray Chen will guide this in the right direction. If this was a paid app I would pay whatever the cost was. It is amazing how much people will practice when they have a supportive audience. Simply brilliant!

2/5Good for encouraging practice
This app is a great motivator for practicing more, and definitely improves your practice time by a lot. However, there are some problems I have encountered while using this app. Sometimes, I will have a metronome or sheet music on my screen instead of the app itself. But my wifi is very poor, and this makes my sessions stop early. I can’t see if my session is over, since I’m still on something else. I have been practicing with my screen not on the app for only three days, and I have lost about 700 XP from there being no notification. This happened when I needed this XP to pass onto the next level. It would be appreciated if there was at least a notification telling me when my studio session ended. Also, I have spent the past hour practicing, but my studio decided it would be a good idea to glitch and I had no choice but to restart Tonic. Now, usually it would say I need to return to my studio, but now it had no record of my studio at all. Nothing. One hour of my day, wasted on this app. I only needed that hour to advance to the next stage, and now it is gone. I hope you don’t make me waste two or three more hours simply because I restarted it and my luck ran out this time.
