  1. 5/5Game Changer

I don’t normally write reviews. In fact, I hate writing reviews and taking surveys. But, Jonathan has created an app that revolutionizes practicing and helps you learn a song inside and out and musicians needs to know about it. The tracks are actual performances so it feels like you’re playing with a live band. The mixes are great, but you can tweak them if you want to focus on a particular instrument. The chords are correct and in common keys. Want to learn more about the song and what makes it pop? Hit the information button. Getting better at performing has never been easier. Thank you for the time and effort it must’ve taken to get the app just right!

  2. 5/5Brilliant app, get it!

I’ve tried a bunch of jazz play-along apps over the years, and this one is on a whole different level. The biggest thing for me is just how good it sounds. The rhythm sections are absolutely on fire. Instead of feeling like you’re practicing with a backing track, it feels like you’re playing with a real band that’s actually making music. It’s honestly made me want to practice more. I’ll open it up planning to play for 20 minutes and an hour later I’m still going because it’s just so much fun. Another thing I love is that they’re always adding new tunes. It feels like getting little surprise gifts every week because you never know what’s going to show up next. Every time I open the app there’s a chance there’s something new to dig into, and that keeps everything fresh. If you’re into jazz and want something that’s actually inspiring to play with instead of just functional, definitely check this out. It’s become one of my favorite practice tools.

  3. 5/5There’s no going back

The quality and dynamic feel of the tracks are so far beyond other play along apps that I just want to learn every song here. The tracks build and vary over each chorus, often with tag endings and other interesting devices. Each tune is meticulously researched. The musicians are phenomenal —you’re truly playing with a world class jazz combo. The library is somewhat small now, but they add new tunes all the time. Is it worth the subscription? As long as they keep adding songs then 100% yes.

  4. 5/5The Best Play Along Solution - Period!

In addition to beautifully recorded LIVE backup performances by the best pianists, bassists, and drummers in NYC (whose time is IMPECCABLE, pace Aebersold), you get chord charts for a very generous (and growing) selection of tunes. And you can vary the metronome settings and adjust the pitch levels without significant audio degradation to boot. There’s no competition: I used it for one tune on tryout and immediately signed up for a year. It’s the only app I have that I don’t regret having to subscribe to! Hats off to all involved.

  5. 3/5One Must Have Is Missing in An Otherwise Fine App

I do love the performances. That has been restated multiple times by many users. However, one glaring shortcoming hobbles this app in a functional way. Perhaps I am missing a setting. I have yet to enable background play. The moment I attempt to view my sheet music, the audio cuts off completely. I am missing the background play feature in settings? If not, this is the only glaring issue that I see with this app. Once again, it’s not the song selection or musicians, it’s just the functionality I desire to be improved upon to allow background play.
