  1. 5/5Well worth the subscription cost! I'm impressed 🤓

First, I will mention the subscription part because it seems like that is where a lot of people are leaving negative reviews. Yes, you do need to pay the subscription fee to see all of the functions, charts, goalsetting, widgets, etc. within the app but the creator gives you a seven day trial to see what it has before you have to pay for it. I’d also like to mention the fact that I tried to download a lot of Apple health data to generate a spreadsheet to analyze my runs and suffice to say I spent 2+ days trying to get a handle on all of the data, and in the end excel was not really able to process several gigabytes of data. This app connects directly to Apple health and gives you all of the run data and statistics that you could possibly imagine so fantastic work on the creators part. Thank you for making a wonderful app.

  2. 4/5Splits are broken, devs unresponsive

I like the idea of this app. I was really enjoying using it for a while until my new entries suddenly had broken splits. There would only be 2 splits for a run. The 1st mile and then the rest of the run would be lumped together as one big split. Completely useless data at that point. The splits are correct in the data source and correct in Apple Fitness, only in Tempo are they broken. I reached out to the devs at their published support email and got no response. I had paid for a year of premium but I cancelled after realizing the data is suspect and the devs won't troubleshoot issues. I would look very carefully before spending any money and ensure that the data is correct for your workouts. update: after tweeting at the developer I did receive a response. The developer tried hard to solve the problem but unfortunately a solution was never found. I really wish I could use this app as I quite like it, but I just can't get around this issue.

  3. 5/5Simple and powerful

I’ve used many running apps. Since finding Tempo I rarely use the others. It has a very simple user interface and you can quickly find what you’re looking for. I love the Intensity Calendar for a quick overview of my runs. The Cumulative Graph is the perfect way to look at your weekly mileage and see your progression throughout your training cycle. The Personal Bests is fun to look through. I also like how the data is presented as you review each workout. The developer is doing a great job with this app and is constantly adding new features. I also love that I can use the default Apple Workouts app (though you can use any app that syncs with Apple Health) to record my runs as I find that the most accurate and simplest to use. The data syncs seamlessly with Tempo. Great app!

  4. 3/5Insufficient Improvements to Warrant subscription

I just returned to Premium after about a year off recovering from surgery and building my stamina back up. There’s still no way: 1. to tag multiple workouts at once. 2. no duration/time on feet option for Calendar or work out views. 3. No algorithmic intensity calculation like Strava has (e.g. TSS). I’d be happy to pay more if that is the reason behind the lack of improvement. It seems like this might not be the dev’s primary job, and I’d like it to be able to be. I’ve already quit Google products, and after the Reddit fiasco and them forcing my preferred app out of business (Apollo), I refused to use products that have poor privacy and monetize data, particularly when they push social features. So Strava is out. At this point, the only thing I use in Tempi is the Cumulative Graph. If I could only have 1 thing, I wish that and the intensity calendar would show duration amounts rather than distances. I’ve switched to lower-intensity running (like Kiochoge, at 50-75% slower than my 10K pace), and had 0 injuries while being able to do increase to 6 days per week for the first time since high school. Most days, I don’t care about mileage. I care about running more, and I can do that by running slower (and therefore fewer miles). 2 days per week I do tempo, strides, or intervals, and even then I only care about pace during the fast parts, but run very slow the rest, so again, mileage is less important for me than duration. And duration allows me to compare effort instead of trying to compare results (mileage) with others.

  5. 5/5It just gets better all the time!

I’ve been using Tempo Pro for many years and the updates amaze and inspire me. Would love it if it would calculate total elevation gain as the app I use during runs and hikes doesn’t send that info to Apple Health. I can always add it in notes from the other behemoth running app; but having it on the first page would be fun. A feature for then graphing total elevation and seeing time instead of distance in the cumulative graph would be cool too. Maybe surprise me with those updates? Love the update that lets me graph similar runs depending on how I tag them. Trail runs, pavement, usual route, low heart rate, etc. My favorite app for seeing what I’ve done and what I’m doing now. The update of the colors and layout is a work of art! First place I look after a run.

  • 4.2.1

Hello. This build has a few minor bug fixes that have been around but limited to very few folks and hence were not easily discoverable and fixable. You will notice the following improvements if you are one of those folks, • Latest workout widget will work correctly now instead of showing a very old workout. • Watch app should show the correct latest workout. • Workouts imported into the Health app might show better splits info when available. My thanks to the runners who helped troubleshoot these seemingly random and not very straightforward bugs. In addition, there is more UI polish, new motivational quotes, and some work for yet-to-be-released features. Enjoy & Stay Active! ––– Tempo 4.2.0 brought updated Annual Highlights with more fun stats and visualizations to celebrate 2022 and get inspired for 2023. Here's a summary of it, • Cumulative Heart Rate Zones: Tempo aggregates heart rate zones from every workout during the year for a single year-long heart rate zones pie chart. • Calendar of Active Days: A simple and unified calendar highlighting every active day. Makes a fun and unique visual of training history. • Averages: We already had totals for key stats, and now we also have totals averaged per workout for the year. All of the above also works for the past years. So while you can check your year-in-review for 2022, you can also relive the past training years.

Introducing Training Planner: Import your personal training plan and stay on top of your upcoming workouts with Tempo. Quick backstory: Around December 2019 / early 2020, I was building an app called Epic, a training planner app that would support any fitness training—all workout types, not just running. Unfortunately, it never shipped due to the crazy events of the year 2020. Fast-forward to the present times, and I am super excited to bring Epic's core—mostly rebuilt with modern tech and focused on running plans—to Tempo. It's a little crazy, and I never thought it would take me this long to ship Epic when I started, let alone ship it inside Tempo. The shelved copy of Epic constantly taunted me because I wanted it for my training and felt the need for it during every training cycle over the past four years. I hope you find it helpful in your next training cycle. I've been following Pfitzinger's 24-55 plan for the Chicago marathon this fall, and it looks beautiful in Tempo. :) Enjoy & Stay Active!
