  1. 5/5Great but please stop changing it

I’ve been using tempo for over two years and got the tempo studio when it was the only product they offered. This app has grown a lot from only playing videos without the ability for background music. My only complaint is the latest redesign is one of many overhauls that just feels like layering on unneeded paint. Originally, the app just had a weekly workout goal, which was fine. Then they added strength and cardio sets by muscle group which was helpful (although the goals based on the plans seemed somewhat arbitrary). The latest iteration makes no sense. The readiness score feels fairly arbitrary and like a swipe at Oura since you can’t see the range of metrics or how it stacks up (you just see your current metrics when tapping on it but no weighted average contribution or anything). The most frustrating thing is that they still have these blue bar goals in plans that allude to strength sets, but now you cannot see how many strength sets each workout will get you. These goals feel too constraining since their aren’t that many plans. I much preferred balancing out my strength sets and earning enough. This update alludes to the strength sets but it just feels like a UI filler since they aren’t integrated throughout the experience. The workout class experience is still fantastic but the lead up and planning really needs to be tuned down. It seems like they keep trying to make it look like they are doing clever AI plans rather than just shuffling some preset lists. Please just simplify and allow users to build a plan or track their muscle groups if they choose!

  2. 5/5Early adopter

I purchased my tempo in June 2020. I was a good steward as an early adopter and patient as I waited months to receive my studio. Once I received it, there were quite a few bugs to work out. I have high speed Internet but the studio needed an adapter. It took a few months of frustration from classes freezing, hard restarts and phone calls to Tempo IT customer support to get it on track. This issues were finally resolved. I was apologized to many times by customer support and was also offered a new customer welcome kit that I never received. I also starting realizing that when I did challenges I never received emails stating I completed challenges in order to submit for the fun gifts! As an early adopter- Tempo also did a huge thing and offered the core to those who were already owners. I pay monthly fee and get a receipt but never received the core request email until I specifically asked for it. The challenges are fun have kept me motivated except I’ve never received the welcome pack or the T-shirt - I’ve emailed and was told no emails on welcome kit - well it was over phone ?? And the T-shirt just told they will send another - but who knows. I’m not sure why they can’t figure out why some customers get some of the emails and others don’t!!! Tempo is a obvious growth centric company who tries but over promises and doesn’t always deliver - I’m in the tempo support group and I’ve seen mixed opinions, with similar experiences. Personally, I’m now back at OTF and contemplating selling my studio as certain aspects have turned me off from the brand. Everyone’s expectations and experience are different so try the studio for yourself you may love it!

  3. 5/5Don’t Like the Gym but Love Tempo!

I'm really not a gym type of person. I've tried many times. I know it's good for me to build functional strength for the aging process, but whatever I do, I can't fit the gym into my schedule. When I get there, I'm just not motivated, but with Tempo I have successfully worked out about two times a week for two months now, and I can honestly say I enjoy it. It's fun and it's motivating. The workouts are short and compact and fit my schedule, and all I have to do is go into my bedroom space where I have it set up and go for it. The weights are really nice, good quality, and make it a fun experience to use. The personal trainers are all really good. They're fun, they're engaging, and the time flies by. They intersperse (maybe with AI?) little mini clips that seem to adjust based on what my body is doing. If I'm out of form, the personal trainer seems to adjust and say, "Hey, stand up straighter or tilt your pelvis forward" or whatever cues are needed to correct my form," so very impressed. I've also noticed a clear improvement in my lean muscle mass and my body definition.

  4. 4/5Finally- Something that Works for Me!

I can’t say enough good things about the Tempo system. The coaches are fantastic and their personalities are all different, so every workout is really fun because I get to choose what mood I’m in and pick a coach that matches my mood and what I want to accomplish during my workout. This is the first time that I have lifted weights that I feel like I am increasing how much I lift as I continue to have workout sessions, and therefore, increasing how much muscle I’m gaining. My one tidbit of a complaint would be that sometimes the app disconnects from my Apple Watch or from my television, and so that can sometimes put a damper in my workout if I’m in a flow, but it never lasts for very long. I especially love how the system reads the weights that I’m lifting, and also monitors my heart rate, and sets the pace of my workout, according to those things. Usually, when I’m working out, I’m not paying attention to my heart rate. So, I really appreciate that the system will automatically pause for me to chill out for a bit before continuing with the next set. As I said, I can’t say enough, good things about this system. And I can’t recommend it enough…to friends, to family, to you, dear reader.

  5. 1/5Avoid at all costs

First off, the app is horribly designed. It’s terribly organized and hard to find what sort of class you’re looking for. There’s also no way to check off classes you’ve already completed, so you’re left scrolling through a bunch of classes that all are all named some variation of “burn” or “challenge.” As a result, it’s virtually impossible to keep track of what you’ve done in the past. I really hope they add some sort of a tracking feature or a basic check mark, but based on other reviews it looks like they’ve haven’t made any strides. Secondly, the system just doesn’t work. I’ve been mailed 3 new cords by Tempo in the past month because they work once or twice and then fail to connect thereafter. You cannot cast your workout to the tv or a computer without their cord, nor can you just complete the workout from your phone or computer without the visualization feature. So effectively this entire app and system is useless if don’t have a tv and cable (which never works). Whoever thought of this limited functionality should be fired. Not to mention the customer service team is a nightmare and you are sent to some third party call company in another country. In short, avoid this company and app at all costs. They clearly don’t care about feedback or their customers. I’ll be fighting them for a full refund.
