    Long time photographer, and when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to check more data and detailed forecasts, this is great. Bought lifetime to support and also just because yay, no subscription! Price may be steep to some for lifetime, but hey, the days of one-time purchases are gone, so the developer even giving us an option is great. Subscription prices are definitely reasonable, too. One thing I’d ask for is (contradicting my own review) for a bit more data. I can hop into one of my many weather apps and see exactly why a sunrise/sunset is going to be good/bad, but sometimes, it’d be nice to get the breakdown of info in the app. Next, a page layout for locations. Obviously, conditions don’t vary much over the course of a couple miles, but as someone who regularly makes trips halfway across Texas (which is many hundreds of miles), conditions vary greatly, and it’d be great to just swipe between pages for each location. For example Houston, Austin, and Dallas… Really no complaints about the app, especially considering this is made by one person. Polish you rarely see nowadays. Much love and respect from a fellow nerd. 🙏 Lastly, I’d love a combo large widget, with times AND quality forecasts on it. We have a large times widget, but I’d love to see a large one that combines quality forecasts and times. Would be so nice, so useful, and undoubtedly beautifully designed. Please! :)

  2. 4/5Edit: a good app for approximating sunrise/sunset

    I have used multiple different sunrise/sunset apps, and Aplenglow is by far the best one. I can honestly say, that without an ounce of doubt, that if this app says that it’ll be a good sunset, then it will absolutely be a good one. Since I travel extensively for my job, I have used this app to try and find out when there will be a beautiful sunset that I can photograph, and share it with my wife so that we can “share” the experience via FaceTime. Thanks to this app, when I was working out at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, I was able to choose the right day to head out to Sunset Cliffs National Park and share a West Coast Sunset with my wife in Florida. I HIGHLY recommend this app for anyone trying to track the sunrise/sunset… Addendum: I’ve dropped my rating by one star due to some instances of extreme inaccuracy. Usually the erroneous percentages are on days when the forecast is “poor” or “fair,” but there have also been a couple times when a “good” or “great” sunrise/sunset ended up being mediocre at best. That said, the initial review still stands, as MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, the forecast is relatively accurate. I have read other reviews and comments from the developer, that point out the fact that the local weather forecast is not always accurate, which is a fair statement. I do wonder though, why I have read replies from the developer that says he’s been working on improvements and attempting to work with local news outlets (and other methods of making this app better) that have read the same way for two years of reviews…I have to wonder if there have been any actual improvement updates…regardless, this app is one of the best for this particular purpose

  3. 3/5Love the idea, but dont rely on it 100%

    I was so excited after finding this app, but after almost a year of using it I’ve found it can do more harm than good. I cant tell you how many times I’ve seen Good or Great as the forecast a few days out that gradually get reduced to fair or poor. Seriously 90%+ of those that ive seen ended up dropping to fair or poor. Then on the flipside there have been some absolutely killer sunsets when the apps forecast said poor or fair. What prompted me to write this was the other night. It had been raining all afternoon and was going to clear up about an hour before sunset, and more often than not thats a recipe for a crazy one. I left home but forgot my drone, was trying to decide whether I should turn around or go. Looked at the app and it said “20% poor.” Of course then I missed one of the best sunsets ive seen in this city with a crazy rainbow. Its my fault, my instinct was that it was going to be good but the app nudged me the other way. My advice is to use this as a quick look to see what theyre forecasting, then check the weather yourself. If it rains all day and clears up towards the evening, be ready!

  4. 5/5Update: Great App and Great Support

    I tried to edit my 2 star review. I initially gave it two stars because I was not hearing back from AlpenGlow support. However, they were trying very hard and they found me via twitter and asked if I was the 2 star review and wanted to help resolve my issues. Within minutes we connected and got my issues resolved. So. Great App/Great support. They went above and beyond to find me when the messages from the apple store were not reaching me for whatever reason.

  5. 2/5I wish this was better

    It seems like the person/team behind this app put a lot of effort and research into their methodology, but unfortunately it just doesn’t work. None of it: 1) the app - I don’t get alerts for the threshold I set. When I tap the widget for the day’s forecast it takes me to a forecast from whenever it was the last time I opened the app. I would care less about the second point if the first worked properly - and I pay for this version. And 2) the forecasts themselves. The only ones consistently nailed are obvious rainy/overcast times. Too often there’s a spectacular event on a 20-30% predictor, and too often a dud on the higher ends. I know it’s still a bit of a crapshoot in predicting, but isn’t the whole point in having a methodology that is BETTER than a crapshoot? This ain’t it. At least for the midwest. Maybe this works better out West when there are fewer meteorological factors or something.

A NEW ALPENGLOW FORECAST MODEL • For the first time, Alpenglow’s forecasts are powered by its own proprietary model. • This means more reliable predictions, faster improvements, and the freedom to build features that weren’t possible before.     - New sun engine that improves the accuracy for sunrise/sunset times. - When selecting the current location button in the map, the app will now fetch your location and switch to it. Previously it would recenter on the existing location. - Polar Day/Night Improvements throughout. - Bug fixes
