1. 5/5Still a must have for those moving and DEEPLY expressive sounds!

   Sunrizer is probably the best name anyone could have named this synth! The warm overtones, harmonics and filtering move the sound from one side of the earth to the other, with the warmth yet brightness of each note! I love the RANDOMIZER option! It puts together a preset that no one has likely ever heard, and gives you a perfect jumping off point to start tweaking each parameter to morph between 2 full presets A/B allowing you the control between them with the mod wheel! Still one of the best!

2. 5/5One of the best synth apps ever

   I’ve had this app since the day it was released. It is still my favorite synth app on iPad and iPhone. It’s so wonderful and intuitive that every time I use it it makes me smile. I’ve used it in many live gigs and just playing around. I have at least 115 or so audio iOS apps. They are all paid apps and I have also beta tested many apps since 2011. This app has never let me down. Using a midi controller or just the screen, it always comes through and has never crashed on me. Also, you can tweak everything so much and there are so many wonderful audio packs for this. This app will always be in my top five apps and whenever I meet someone who is getting into iOS audio production this is on my top 10 list of must have apps. It has been around for a very long time and they still update it, which is amazing. Beep Street is a fantastic company and everything they release is tops. Plus, they don’t screw around with overpriced subscriptions. Even if they had a subscription app, I’m sure it would be insanely affordable. This is definitely one of the top synthesizer apps for iOS and they are not greedy and everything they put out is priced right and completely worth every penny.

3. 5/5AUv3 update brings Sunrizer back front and center

   There’s still nothing else I’ve found quite like the JP8000 emulation on offer in Sunrizer. It’s so _good_ - fun to play with and invent and with so many free presets available from amazing artists, if you don’t want to explore the full depth of sound/patch design available in Sunrizer, it’s very easy to just pick up something that sounds _great_ and go play. Updating to AUv3 is a huge step forward for Sunrizer too - it’s so much better for the current state of the art in iOS music workflows than Inter-app Audio that there’s no comparison. I cannot wait to quit writing this text and get back to playing, so I will leave you with: If you like making music on your iOS device and you don’t already have Sunrizer, there is no reason not to drop some cash on it right now. 4. 5/5The iPad version is unbelievable, iPhone version isn’t.

   Of all the iOS synths I own, this is my very favorite synth, PERIOD! I can’t give it higher praise. The depth and complexity of the tones takes me to new levels of inspiration & creativity. It’s on the WOW FACTOR level to hear it. Today I purchased the iPhone version, and it is NOT a duplicate of this version. What I do on the iPad version is take a patch that I like and start playing with every parameter, and am rarely unsatisfied with the changes. With the iPhone version I can’t get any patch modified or stock to sound 1/10 as good as the iPad version. I hope the developers can do their magic on the iPhone version to get it to be more like its big brother.

5. 3/5Was great; please fix tuning!

   I have nothing to add to the rave reviews on Sunrizer: its still sets the standard for iOS synths after more than a decade, it still is rock-solid in performance and in sound, and I still use it whenever I can. Which isn’t as often as I’d like, because the custom tuning has been broken since my last iOS 9 device bit the dust. On iOS 12 and 13, selecting anything other than standard (i.g., 12-tone equal temperament) tuning transposes the entire synth range up by two octaves, and the MIDI transpose function does not work to bring it back down. Thus, no bass for you! That wouldn’t be a complete loss if it weren’t also now impossible to set the root note for non-equal temperament tuning systems. Choosing a root note just assigns C to the corresponding key on the keyboard. So, if I set Eb as my root note for a justly-intoned scale, then touch the Eb key, I hear a note that sounds like C from 12-TET 440. Two octaves higher than it should be. I emailed the dev about this some time ago. I know life is weird for us all as the pandemic drags on, but Beepstreet updates have appeared without this issue being addressed. And yeah, I’m a niche market in a niche market, but I miss Sunrizer’s reliability and incredibly awesome sounds in my music. I can sample it, I suppose, but it’s just not the same. I’m still looking for the synth to replace it for iOS work. SynthMaster One is the best sounding so far, but its interface trips over its own cleverness. Why so few synths on this platform bother with custom tuning is another question entirely, but I sure do wish that Sunrizer could return to its place at the head of my signal chain.
