2/5Great production / Terrible app
Soundbooth theater does great work. I really enjoy their audiobooks. When I heard that there was going to be an audio immersion tunnel of Dungeon Crawler Carl, I was very excited. That excitement dissipated as I began to use the app. The app is terrible. It does not keep my place from session to session so I am constantly having to remember where I left off from my previous listen. To make matters worse, it will not allow me to fast forward or rewind. So I find myself listening to the same content over and over and over again. I have already purchased both season one and two and I hope that the engineers can fix this problem. I would hate to have to abandon the books because of design flaws in the app.

This app is just terrible. It takes forever to load up, the playback skips around, forgets where you were, and takes forever to transition between chapters. Pre-download does not work at all; if you are going to use this in an area with limited cell or WiFi you will not be able to move beyond your current chapter. The interface is clunky and serves only to elevate marketing of new titles, not to serve the user who wants to manage or listen to their library. The only reason I gave two stars is because one star would seem like a rage rating and I want to be clear that this is a purposefully low review. Get better at your jobs or find something else to do.

Downloaded the app to check out the full immersion tunnel version of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Love the books love what Jeff brings to life in narration! That said this app still needs a lot of TLC downloading episodes is a great feature so long as it works correctly and is accurate. Ive had to redownload episodes several times and the app even tells me I have it downloaded already however it doesn’t appear in the library. I want to dive into more of what’s available here but bugs like the above have gotta be fixed before I dive in. I really do enjoy what has been put together on this app though and I’m excited for more and hope that Jeff and his team succeed in building this vision for over the top audio experiences!

4/5The only reason why I’m giving 4 stars is because the app is dysfunctional
I love the service brought by the app. The service is perfect in every way shape and form. So much so that it’s mitigating me giving a lower score based on the app’s functionality. It just freezes on me or stops working constantly. When I open it up, sometimes but very rarely it’s immediately frozen. When I’m using it but open the app to check something, the audio stops playing. When I change episodes, the audio stops playing. I’ve never lost track of where I was, which is nice, as the only solution for each and every issue has been to just close out the app and try again. It’s never failed a second time after closing and reopening, thank goodness. I had just recently updated the app hoping it would fix the issues. Also, I don’t feel like the UI is optimized towards an easy experience. I often times find myself fumbling around trying to locate where I can actually play each episode of the book I’m listening to. Other than all of that, I still think the service far outweighs the negatives of the app. It is downright fantastic!

I’ve listened to dungeon crawler Carl series on audible 3 times through now and decided to give this a try. Absolutely worth every penny. Definitely recommend listening on audible first before going down this route but for those who cannot get enough of DCC this is absolutely amazing. It is almost as if I am listening to a show on TV playing in another room it feels so real. I can picture every happening almost as if I was watching it on television. It does take some getting used to as some of the voices change with introduction of a cast of new voice actors. But the key things for me like Carl, Donut, and most importantly… the AI keep their same voice. Bravo well done. I will continue preordering each season as they release and hopefully they can catch up to where we are currently in the series.
