   I love this app, it has been so helpful in so many ways! My son has a dairy protein allergy and so this app made it easy to keep track of what he had tried for his appointments. I did purchase the 100 dollar add on that goes over the whole plan and 100 foods in 100 days etc and I have to say I looked at it once when I bought it but it was like 200 pages and so I never referred back to it again, with a new baby who had dietary complications I just didn’t have the time to sit down and do it but others may find it helpful! The only reason I gave the app 4 stars is because of his allergy, there is no option to modify. So yes he’s tried bagels, and yes he’s had this and that, that may include dairy but I gave him non dairy options or substituted the dairy and it does not have the option to do that. So it looks like I introduced dairy when I had not. Which is fine at this time but then when I do introduce dairy it will get complicated to remember if “this bagel or that bagel” were the ones with the dairy or not. I wish they had a food allergy option. Maybe prompted questions “this item contains dairy, was a substitute made?” and the parent clicks yes and it tracks that. But overall, I use it daily, I’ve kept track of everything he has eaten since he started eating foods and I love having this tool.

2. 4/5Extremely Disappointed

   I absolutely do not appreciate the snaky way the solid starts team suddenly changed their policy on their food database. I just started solids with my firstborn a month ago and have been using their food database (advertised over and over as always free on their instagram/website) to learn how to cut/prepare food safely for my infant, until suddenly I received a countdown saying I had five free searches left before needing to pay an exorbitant price of $20/month or $100 per year. I immediately went to their instagram, where I was confused by their continued messaging stating the food database would continue to be free even with the rollout of their new app. Today, those comments are mysteriously gone, and have been replaced by stuffy corporate legal messaging stating they needed to make this change to continue to offer quality information to parents. Needless to say, I deleted the app. Update: I am very pleased to hear that Solid Starts has decided to rollback the update and make the food database free again. I have updated my rating accordingly, as I find the food database to be a great resource for new parents starting solids, and I am glad to see it is no longer held behind a paywall.

3. 2/5Helpful information horrible functionality

   The information this app provides is wonderful. The articles are helpful, the instructions on how to prepare different foods safely give me peace of mind, and the guidance on introducing allergens made it much less scary. BUT, the functionality of this app is absolute trash. When I try to add a meal to the tracker, it always logs it for the following day and I have to manually go in and individually change every ingredient to the correct day—it’s infuriating! The allergen introduction feature also just stopped working for me after pistachio. Usually when you complete an allergen, the next one pops up for you to start, but the app just stopped working once we hit pistachio. I hate the meal planning feature, and I dislike that you need to complete these other modules (like dip and bite) before it will give you instructions on the next allergen. Why can’t I just go into the allergen list, click one, and get the instructions and meals for introducing that allergen?? Logging foods is so annoying that I just stopped using the feature after a few weeks. I will also say this app is very white and has little to no information on many of the Chinese vegetables we consume. Lastly, the recipes on the app are not good and I did not enjoy any of the ones we tried that are designed to be shared by the whole family. TLDR: useful for allergen introduction (as long as the app is working) and for checking how to safely prepare a food (as long as it’s a mainstream food), and not much else.

4. 3/5Inconsistency within the app

   I like the app, but there is room for improvement. Tracking within the app doesn’t always show up in all the different sections of the app. You might track a particular allergen on your “calendar,” showing that the allergen has been introduced, but then it’s listed as “in progress” under the list of allergens (even if you’ve already done the full 1, 2, 3 series introduction for that food). Then other allergens I’ve introduced that only call for being given one time to consider the introduction complete, those don’t show up at all on the list of allergens at all and still say “not started.” Then, sometimes when you track an allergen, the app prompts you to select whether there was a reaction or not, but if you track in a different area of the app, that prompt doesn’t come up. It took me forever to figure out that the only place it will prompt me to select whether there was a reaction is if I track it on the calendar page, not from the meal page. All of these things are annoying. I also feel like I get very little guidance about what my next meals should be or how many meals per week I should be aiming for. I paid for the app and feel frustrated with all these issues.

5. 1/5Waste of Time

   This app makes you create an account and profile for you and your baby, makes you answer a lot of questions, promises a lot of stuff, and then tells you that you have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription to use pretty much anything on the app. For one, this is ridiculous because you’re only going to use this app for a few months or maybe a year at most and then your baby will be eating regular food exactly how you make it anyway so this app will be useless then so obviously they’re just trying to get you to forget you have the subscription so they can keep taking your money even after you no longer need this app. For two, there is absolutely no reason to make people go through the whole process of creating accounts and profiles when you can do pretty much nothing without paying. Why not just tell people up front that they have to pay? It’s such a waste of time. After going through the account and profile making process, I can’t even mark if my child has tried a food or not without making an account. This app sounds like a great idea but sadly the people who need it most aren’t going to have access to it because the price is ridiculous and you can’t even do basic things without paying for the app. Don’t bother downloading this app. I’m sure there are free apps that will at least let you do the basics of what this app does which is all you need.

   this app seems fantastic! my babys doctor was the one that actually referred me to it. only thing is that you need a subscription to access MOST of the stuff. would be nice to have a trial period first with it being a pricy $20 a month. I understand the yearly subscription is way cheaper in the long run but thats a big hunk of money to spend upfront. Im reluctant to purchase it because I dont know if Ill want to keep at it without being able to at least try the features first.

   Downloaded the app, didnt get to enjoy the free version for even 5 minutes before the glitching began. blank black screens when navigating, freezes on loading screen, has to be closed and reopen. ive read alot of the reviews on here and agree for over $100 a year you'd think an app would be alot smoother without developers blaming users for "not having updated version" or "you must be using the wrong email" and constantly uninstalling and reinstalling instead of admitting they have a faulty app.
