5/5Fantastic update
I travel extensively, a significant portion of which is international, so sleep issues are something I take especially seriously. For years I relied on this app as indispensable but it became nonfunctional as new iOS updates were rolled out without a corresponding app update. I nearly deleted it from my iPhone but left it there in hopes an update would come. In the meantime I tried other apps including the ridiculously expensive SleepGenius, none of which were near what I got out of Sleep Machine when it was functional. Last night I couldn't believe it when my phone indicated an update for Sleep Machine was available just before I was heading to bed. I immediately downloaded it and all I can say is FANTASTIC! This update is incredible and represents an amazing amount of thought and work. I am grateful to the SleepMachine team for version 4.1.2. It is a "gift" at its current price and worth much more. Well done, guys, stay with us on future updates - we need you and this fantastic app. Lookout sleep - here I come.

3/5Godsend, but..
I've been using this app for I can't even remember how many years now and I love it. Once in a while I'll try a new sleep app out of curiosity, but I always come back to this one. It's exceeded the others in many ways. Currently, I live in a new neighborhood where homes are still being built. The workers are here bright and early with their noise but and my stand alone sleep machine just doesn't cut it. I put my air buds in and go back to sleep because this app blocks out everything when you choose the right settings. The only reason for 3 stars is that I don't appreciate being woken up by an app that's supposed to help you sleep, by warning that my volume maybe too loud. And repeatedly! Could you tell me that one time when I first start it up & not when I've had enough time to fall asleep?? From there, I am able to take on responsibility for my own hearing. Moreover, multiple warnings are pretty upsetting, especially when I've gone in to adjust the volume already. Certain scenarios require louder volumes. This is as infuriating as when my airbuds signal when they're about to turn off, which also wakes me up! All of these bells and whistles cause broken sleep, defeating the purpose. I don't recall Sound Sleep having this feature in the past. If it is new, I may need to continue my quest for another sleep app that perfectly suits my needs.

I have used the Sleep Machine app for the past four years and loved it. Unfortunately, that love relationship has changed significantly with the "upgraded" version of this application. In an attempt to make the app more robust, the "tinkers" have added an additional sound option into the mix, and some other goofy sleep cycle calculator. The result of all their "improvements" is that the app functions equally as well as a sound generator, but is no longer reliable as an alarm. I still use the app, and have been trying to figure out how to work around the new glitches. For instance, it now will randomly turn the alarm off in the middle of the night. I can't figure out why it is doing this, and have tried several ways of assuring that it stays engaged…thus far without any success. Also,The snooze button is no longer available as it was in the previous iteration of this application. Before, it simply appeared (large size) on the face of your iPhone; now, you have to unlock your iPhone to find the snooze button. By the time you have gone through all those motions, you're pretty much awake and no longer feel the need to snooze an extra few minutes. I'm using this on a new iPhone 5s, and – as mentioned above – have been using this application in his previous version quite successfully. I am very disappointed in how unreliable and useless as an alarm it has become with this last rendition. However, I think it is still the best ambient sound generator out there, and so will probably continue to use it along with a back-up alarm to compensate for its uselessness in that category. Therefore, I've given it 2 stars, whereas before I would have given it a full five.

5/5Best Sound App out there.
Let me start by saying I have/had several "white noise" apps on my phone and iPad, both paid and free, and this one is the tops, no doubt about it. Of the top rated sleep apps that i have tried, including White Noise and Relax Melodies, this one has the absolute best sound quality and most intuitive controls. It blows the dedicated white noise generating stand alone machines out of the water. When I travel, the normal hotel noises are drowned out pretty good by mixing several styles of white noise, or sometimes I will mix in a comforting rain or the relaxing sound of the shore to help me get to sleep in a foreign place. Now, I get home and am disappointed by the fan we use in the bedroom...it's just not the same as the perfection you can tune with this app. Guess its time for a docking station in the bedroom! I highly recommend Sleep Machine if you won't settle for anything less than the best.

5/5My favorite for at least 6 years
I can’t remember exactly how long ago it was that I downloaded this, but I have used it consistently for at least 6 years. It’s the oldest app on my phone. I have dabbled with similar apps but I keep coming back to this. It’s the easiest one to use and it has an enormous selections of sounds. I enjoy creating mixes. More popular apps that do the same thing have fewer sounds, in-app purchases, and the interfaces are awful. Small issues: I might improve the search feature a bit, although it still technically works. And the task flow for creating and saving a mix isn’t very intuitive, but one can still figure it out after a couple of tries. But I still love this app and I hope it sticks around for many years to come. I want to be listening to my mixes on my deathbed when I’m 120. Keep up the good work!
