4/5Can only wish for a better product from SketchUp.
I have been a SketchUp Pro user for many years. I’ve taught myself how to efficiently use the desktop version over the past 15 years. In the recent years with everything going mobile and to tablets, I have considered switching to Shaper3D. My only hang up was having to learn a new process of creating efficient design for my customers. Right when I was ready to switch up and give Shaper3D a year of my time and money. SketchUp announced they where working on an app for the tablet. This kept me in their corner, at least until it was released about 8months later. Each day I would log on to see if it had been released, waiting patiently and eagerly for the familiarity of what I was already using. After the long anticipated wait, it was finally released. I logged in and quickly realized this was a baby version of what I had already become so familiar with. The process has been revamped and only a small percentage of the tool I use on a daily basis where available at my finger tips. I could only image creating a very simple and limited product with this newly released product. Unfortunately, when my SketchUp Subscription expires, I want be renewing it. Instead I will be trying my hand at a program that was designed around mobility and tablet use, or at least feels that way. I hope SketchUp makes this app a front runner in tablet use, at least one day!

5/5It’s not the best
I’ve used SketchUp for years and I find the solutions they came up with for the mobile version are unintuitive in relation to the original computer version. Separate tools need to be selected for nearly every modification or addition, planes will move unexpectedly while selecting them, it’s not easy to select and delete segments…basically, the feeling is that I have to work extra hard to use this on my convenient tablet. Maybe I need to integrate a keyboard into the process, but then why wouldn’t I just just the full version? After waiting for a long time for this to arrive…I am now on;y going to use this as a viewer, and will continue to hope for a better alternative or some REALLY intuitive updates to this one. Until then, it’s just not a good companion to the full SketchUp App

1/5terrible delivery
Well I would’ve loved to have known exactly what to say about this app but I mean if it’s gonna ask for my payment information regardless if it’s a seven day free trial not you’re still gonna get my payment information on day one which is essentially the same thing me trusting them with my card to not charge it that’s a big amount of trust in my book and I don’t think that that should be given without at least being able to try the service prior ,…can’t go it a try it you can’t try literally anything! All you can Make an account which is very tedious and also it’s with Thimble,.. I’ve never heard of this company but they have a pretty obtrusive privacy policy,.. I went into detail in read it, & for no apparent reason! I’m obviously only deleting this app immediately. & I’m deleting it because I can’t even try a demo version! Now after all that if it weren’t for the fact that I had to go through all this BS to read the privacy report w/ Thimble before I can even get acquainted is just terrible etiquette! They screwed the pooch from the gitgo,…soooo (♥‿ ¬)☞ just save yourself the hassle try something else that will let you try it before you buy it. I don’t mind buying apps but I definitely don’t like buying them before I even know if I need them I would think that would be obvious 🚬😤

1/5Costs $20 a month, no transparency, not a professional app
If you're looking for a good 3D modeling app, go with Shapr 3D. This company makes you go through the entire process of setting up an account before they disclose that this app a single tier subscription model for $20 a month. They don't even have an option for a one time purchase. Absolutely ridiculous pricing for something that can't be used in most professional settings, and insidious to not disclose price before they force you to create an account. Why would anyone pay $20/month for a mid-tier 3D modeling app when Shapr 3D has a free tier and Blender is free for desktop? This app is already non-standard for professional use. The reason Adobe gets away with this is because they pretty much have a monopoly on design software in every industry. Conversely, SketchUp (even for desktop) isn't an option AT ALL in my industry—as in, if my supervisor found out I was using it, I would probably be reprimanded. I can get away with using Blender despite it being non-standard because it's Just That Good, but SketchUp? On the iPad?? This company is out of their minds charging professional pricing for an app that can really only be used in casual settings.

5/5Very Imressive
Having SketchUp on an iPad has definitely been an idea in the minds of a lot of SketchUp users for quite some time now. I have struggled with the various ways that people navigate SketchUp, from the trackpad, yuck, to the cintiq pen on Wacom, super clunky and not efficient. Once I heard that SketchUp was released on the iPad I immediately thought what have they done to overcome the clunky way that a pencil is used and finger gestures. To my immediate surprise after diving into SketchUp on the iPad, I found myself feeling like I had rediscovered SketchUp for the first time back in 2001, AMAZING!!! SketchUp on the iPad happens to be a legit additional way to work, offering such power in the most sleek portable device. No more lugging the heavy laptop around to do on-site tasks, smaller meetings, and family show & tells 😁

6.4.2
Here's what's new in v6.4.2 (2042)! IMPROVEMENTS • SketchUp Diffusion is now available for you to add to customizable linear and radial shortcut toolbars. • We made a change to the way that Diffusion and Markup scenes interact with Styles, specifically overlay watermarks. It’s now the case that when a scene is deleted in SketchUp for iPad, the Display Watermarks toggle (located under Styles > Watermark Settings) will be automatically toggled off. • We’ve added the option to clear the clipboard so that you can fully dismiss the context menu toolbar when nothing in the model is selected. BUG FIXES • We’ve restored the default keyboard shortcuts (which were inadvertently jumbled in the last release). • We fixed an issue that was affecting the layout of the information that is presented on the About screen in Portrait orientation in iOS 15. • Miscellaneous fixes for missing or incorrect translations and minor Dark Mode inconsistencies.

6.4.3
Here's what's new in v6.4.3 (2049)! IMPROVEMENTS • We’ve updated the iconography that is being used to denote where your files are being stored. - The Trimble Connect storage option is denoted by a cloud icon. Files stored in Connect for which you have view-only access will display a locked cloud icon. Files that live in Connect and are available for offline viewing will display a filled cloud icon with a checkmark. - Files that are stored locally on device in the Sketchup app folder will display a files app icon with the SketchUp app icon overlaid atop it. - Files stored elsewhere in the Files app, either locally, or in a 3rd party cloud service, will display a Files app icon. BUG FIXES • We fixed a bug that was causing SketchUp to crash when importing certain types of DWG files. • The Offset tool offers a shortcut whereby you can double-tap after performing an offset in order to repeat the same offset in the same direction. We fixed a bug that makes this shortcut perform more reliably. • We fixed a bug that was resulting in some weirdness when attempting to customize the radial shortcut menu. • Other misc bug fixes & improvements.

6.5.0
What's new in v6.5 – Generate 3D models of existing spaces and start designing immediately with Scan-to-Design. Create more realistic visuals in-app with Ambient Occlusion. Plus, customize keyboard shortcuts, share links for real-time viewing, and enjoy improvements to Diffusion! Scan-to-Design – Use LiDAR scanning in SketchUp to quickly generate 3D models of existing spaces, providing an excellent starting point for design and collaboration. Scan-to-Design harnesses technology from Canvas and Apple RoomPlan, offering the following 3D outputs: • Canvas scan output will generate a textured 3D model in which the ‘room surfaces’ (walls, ceiling, floor) are drawn as planes and/or triangulated meshes that can be easily edited using SketchUp's modeling tools. The rest of the space (furnishings, etc) will be drawn as a textured, triangulated mesh. • Apple's RoomPlan technology creates a simplified model of the space comprised of orthogonal SketchUp edges and faces, including cut-outs for windows and doors. Models are intelligently organized, so you can toggle the visibility of different outputs using either the Tags panel or the Outliner. Customize Scan-to-Design preferences to dial in the best output for your workflow. Access these settings in Preferences > Scan-to-Design. Requirements: Scan-to-Design requires a LiDAR-enabled iPad and iOS17 or higher. Omnibar – Search for tools and features using industry-standard terms, and Omnibar will recommend tools in SketchUp that match. Omnibar boosts productivity by letting you set custom keyboard shortcuts for any of SketchUp's tools or commands. Ambient Occlusion is a beautiful shading effect that adds a sense of depth to your SketchUp models. You’ll find the settings for Ambient Occlusion in the Styles panel under Face settings. Link Sharing = Live Viewing. Shared links now offer the recipients of those links the ability to join a real-time viewing session and see changes that you're making to the model in real-time. Viewers have the option to navigate the SketchUp model, but when you activate a scene, they'll be pulled back to see the same thing that you're seeing. Diffusion Improvements • Maintain Seed: After selecting a Diffusion-generated image, toggling Maintain Seed allows you to iterate on the chosen image instead of creating an entirely new image. • Negative prompt: Use the Negative Prompt field to specify what you do not want to see in Diffusion-generated images. We're excited to hear what you have to say about these updates! 6.5.5
We're thrilled to announce the release of SketchUp for iPad version 6.5.5! This update brings exciting improvements, and essential bug fixes to enhance your modeling experience. Let's explore what's new in this version! IMPROVEMENTS Named Section Planes in Outliner • We’ve brought section plane naming, selection, and editing support to the Outliner! While SketchUp for iPad has supported section planes created on the Desktop for a while, we’re now bringing the ability to see, name, and edit section planes to the Outliner on iPad, helping keep your model organized how you like it. Graphics Settings Tab • You can now find graphics settings for the app in the graphics tab. This is where you’ll find settings for SketchUp’s graphics engine and texture handling, making it easier to manage and optimize your visual settings alongside your BUG FIXES • We Fixed several bugs with Live Components where users would see endless loading or failure entirely when trying to edit a live component through the entity info panel. SketchUp for iPad’s Live Component connection service has been improved and stabilized to prevent these bugs. • We fixed an issue where undocking the measurements box would cause any values typed into the input box to be overwritten. • We resolved an issue that would prevent a user from using the divide (/) and multiply (x) modifiers when copy/moving or copy/rotating an object. • We fixed a bug where a SketchUp model without a thumbnail preview would be unable to publish to Trimble Connect. The app will now auto-generate a thumbnail if one is missing. • We fixed a bug where if a user selected multiple tags at once in the Tags panel and then deleted them, the panel would become unresponsive. We’ve listened to your feedback! We’ve tackled issues to make working with live components smoother and more stable. We hope this helps in your work and lets you unlock the power of configurable components! Additionally, we know how crucial the measurements box is for inputting and editing move, copy, and rotated selections. We’ve worked hard to maintain and improve these workflows based on your input. Thanks for all the great feedback—keep it coming! Share your thoughts with us here: https://forums.sketchup.com/c/SketchUp-for-iPad/

6.5.6
We're excited to bring you the latest update for SketchUp for iPad! In this release, we focused on making navigation of complex models easier and faster by incorporating some of the recent Outliner improvements you may have seen on SketchUp Web. We’ve also enhanced the material editing experience on iPad. Check out all the features and fixes below! Easier model navigation with Outliner • Outliner Search: Find what you need faster! Type your terms into the new search bar in the Outliner, and see all matching results filtered right there. Parent objects are included, making it a snap to understand your model hierarchy. • Zoom Selected: Get to your objects quicker with the new zoom to selection button at the top of the Outliner panel. Select an object in your model, tap ‘Zoom selected,’ and instantly zoom to that object in both the model view and the Outliner. • Edit Group Instance Names: Easily rename group instances via the group’s overflow menu in Outliner. Material Editing Improvements • Real-time Material Editing: See your material edits instantly! Adjust opacity and add textures with immediate visual feedback. Undo any changes with the Undo command. • Enhanced UI: The “Edit Material Details” popup now lives in the Materials panel, letting you view and navigate your model while editing your materials. Enjoy a larger thumbnail preview with the updated UI. • Material Opacity: Opacity adjustments from within the iOS color picker are now respected in SketchUp material opacity, whether you’re editing a solid color material or a colorized material. • Unused Materials: Find all the materials in your model that are not being used on an object in the new section at the bottom of the Materials panel. Trimble Connect and other Enhancements • Renaming Published Models: You can now rename your SketchUp model when publishing to Trimble Connect. • View Published Models in Browser: Use the new context menu option to navigate to SketchUp files published to Trimble Connect directly in your device browser. • Editing Locked Components: The options dialog for editing one instance of several locked components now lets you either unlock all instances or make the selected component instance unique. Bug Fixes • Fixed a bug where ‘read only’ folders were not showing up for users invited to a Trimble Connect Project. • Resolved the problem that prevented changing the default value for angle snapping for users with device language set to a language other than English. • Fixed a bug that caused the app to crash when a user tapped on the Home button while actively editing a component. • Resolved issues that made selection of section planes, groups, and components in Outliner unreliable. We hope you love these new features and improvements! Your feedback is invaluable, so please keep sharing your thoughts and suggestions on our community forum. http://forums.sketchup.com/c/SketchUp-for-iPad/ Happy modeling!

6.5.7
Here's what's new in v6.5.7 (2144)! We've been hard at work squashing bugs to ensure a great app experience for you. With this update, the app should crash less, and files created by autosave and in Trimble Connect should be more reliable. Trimble Connect (TC) and autosave fixes • Fixed: Issue where canceling the upload process for a file on TC would cause the file to become local only, and opening that original file from the TC tab would result in opening an earlier file version. • Fixed: Bug where the thumbnails of files stored on Trimble Connect did not update in the recent files list • Fixed: Issue that caused an autosave file created from a file in TC to be saved as a local file. Now, autosave files created from TC files will upload the autosave version to TC after a user confirms that they want to proceed with using the autosave file. • Fixed: Bug that would allow a user to create an invalid file in TC by creating a new file from the TC tab, then immediately navigating away from and back to the tab. This invalid file would cause loading issues in the TC tab and recent files list. Other Bug fixes • Fixed: Layout bug on iPhone Viewer where some elements do not show up in Model Info panel when first expanded. • Fixed: Issue where the Styles panel would stop scrolling correctly with multiple subsections open. • Fixed: Bug that allowed a deleted tag to be applied to objects • Fixed: Issue where Apple Pencil settings did were not respected in Markup mode, forcing ‘draw with finger’ mode to always be active. Now, markups respect this setting both if set in the pencil settings while in a markup, and what is set from the iOS pencil settings. • Fixed: An issue where after creating a section plan, user keyboard shortcuts would stop working until the model was closed and reopened • Fixed: Bug where the app would crash when signing in or out. Minor Improvements • New: We’ve provided 'Section Cut' display as a shortcut button. This can be added to both the radial menu and shortcuts bar now. We hope these updates bring more productivity, stability, and joy to your modeling. Please continue to send us your feedback, concerns, and suggestions. https://forums.sketchup.com/c/sketchup-labs/sketchup-ipad/

8.1.1
Here’s what's new in SketchUp for iPad v8.1.1 (2257) In this update, we’ve polished the experience to ensure your tools stay out of the way of your big ideas. We’ve squashed some pesky bugs and fine-tuned the interface so you can focus on what matters: creating. SketchUp now requires iOS 18 or later. By focusing on the latest operating systems we deliver a faster, more secure experience for everyone. Live Components • Scaling: Scalable Live Components can now be dynamically scaled in SketchUp using the native Scale tool, offering greater placement flexibility. • Painting: Use the Paint Bucket. This updated workflow now includes better texture mapping, and painting while a Live Component is selected. Collaboration • If you’re exploring a link-shared model, you can now toggle panel settings to see how different styles or tags look. To keep the "source of truth" safe, these panels return to a read-only state the moment the Editor joins the Collaboration session. Bug Fixes • Arc & Pie Tool Stability: Entering large values while drawing with the Pie Arc tool will no longer cause the app to crash. • Angle Snapping Fix: A localization bug where Angle Snapping reverted to 1° in non-English languages has been fixed for our international users. • We addressed an uncommon error when opening Trimble Connect files from the Home screen after a "Save As" operation that would report the file as “Not found”. • The right-side buttons in Portrait mode are now stable and won't shift when the context menu appears, ensuring a predictable workspace. • Fixed an issue causing the Share bar to drift off-screen when opening the first model after launch. • We fixed a visual glitch in the Outliner after clearing a search that caused entries to stack on each other in a jumble. • Fixed a bug that prevented a user’s name from updating correctly under the profile image in the upper right of the home screen • Fixed a bug that caused crashing when docking toolbars in the editor • Resolved an issue where double-tapping with the Apple Pencil failed to apply corner inferences in the 2-point arc tool while in "Click-Move-Click" mode. • Fixed top crash bug that caused the app to crash when attempting to add a comment to a newly shared collaboration file Every great design starts with a conversation, and we want to keep ours going, so please keep sharing your thoughts and suggestions on our community forum. http://forums.sketchup.com/c/SketchUp-for-iPad/

8.2.0
Here’s what's new in SketchUp for iPad v8.2.0 (3285) Get ready to model faster on your iPad with a super-sized, touch-friendly Measurements Box, improved DWG/DXF imports (say goodbye to post-import cleanup!), and collaboration so smooth you can share files with a single email. We also squashed bugs so your keyboard shortcuts and Live Components play nicely! General Improvements • Redesigned Measurements Box: Larger, easier to read, and touch-accessible. It remains persistent when undocked and responds to pencil input. • Tape Measure: New "Toggle guidepoints" sub-button allows you to switch between guide lines and points creation. • Enhanced support for hardware keyboards, more reliable shortcuts usage. • AI Render: Faster gallery thumbnail loading and a new refresh button for better single-image workflows. DWG/DXF Improvements Enhanced import/export fidelity and efficiency. This includes new import options, hatch import support, and preserving section planes and curves on export. • Import Layers as Groups option: creates groups matching the DWG's layer structure. Imported layers retain their Tags, but grouped geometry now allows for better visibility control. • Import Linework Flattened option: sets imported geometry's Z-value to 0, reducing post-import cleanup for 2D CAD to 3D conversion. • DWG Hatch Support: Imported solid hatches become faces. Non-solid hatches become edges. • Exporting 3D Sections: SketchUp section planes are preserved in 3D exports for use in AutoCAD. • Polylines: Now import as welded lines. • Components: Improved naming to reduce duplicate data. Collaboration Improvements • Easier model sharing: First time collaborators can now join shared files via a single email invite, removing the need for manually adding contacts. • Invite Management: View pending invites directly in the sharing dialog. • “Share a Link” is back in the Recent Files and Trimble Connect overflow menus. • Multi-Editor Management: New warnings and file closing is enforced to maintain data consistency when another editor opens a file that you are in (possible with Trimble Connect projects when you give teammates access) Bug Fixes • Fixed keyboard shortcut disconnects and cursor navigation in text boxes. • Fixed Move, Rotate, Flip, and Scale tool issues with Live Components. • Improved Measurements Box label display and shortcut consistency. We're excited to hear what you have to say about these updates! This returns measurement editing to its previous behavior with the Apple Pencil • Resolved a bug that prevented semicolons from being recognized properly in the measurements box for regions using semicolon numerical separators • Resolved a bug that prevented commas from being recognized properly in the measurements box for regions using commas as decimal separators • Fixed a crash affecting models with unused materials that occurred after saving.
