  1. 2/5Be more considerate of existing users

The old Siren Marine app wasnt sexy but it worked. Am now concerned that non-Yamaha users will be 2nd class citizens in the rush to “Yamaha-ize” this app. The Yamaha version exhibits many of the arrogant mistakes I’ve seen in bad app transitions in my software / web career that aren’t promising for the future of the app. Issues include: 1. Force a hard transition out of the old app to the new at launch, convincing yourself that you’ve covered every angle and have it all figured out while simultaneously cutting off the old product (aka a revert-back path if things aren’t perfect on launch day). 2. Move things around (some key items are now buried a couple menus down), don’t explain the changes and don’t honor prior settings (for a while I thought the bilge monitoring tile was removed; it was just buried and had been set to hidden for no good reason). Other things like Relay output names didn’t carry over. There are lots of “guided tour” platforms that you can add to a web or app experience to help users orient to a new app but you didn’t bother with this at all. 3. This is not as critical, but just dropping iPad support without a word is a bit arrogant. Maybe you looked at metrics and maybe you found not many ipad users, but then just own that decision and communicate it. Don’t surprise me with it. I get that you guys are trying to have a closer tie to Yamaha, but if I had a fleet of boats or a large one with a big custom install I’d be pretty upset. My advice would be to slow your roll and spend at least as much time user testing this app as you did marketing the February 15th relaunch. You also need to signal what the future roadmap looks like before I invest any more in this system for my non-Yamaha boat. I am already $1k in but will switch over to BRNKL if this becomes all Yamaha all the time.

  2. 1/5Terribly executed transition

The old Siren app wasn’t great but at least it worked. The new app is worse and way more buggier. The transition to the new app has been horribly managed. The old Siren app just stopped working one day and forced me to update to the new app. The new app then wouldn’t accept my old password. It eventually started working on my iPad with my old password but still doesn’t work on my iPhone. The iPad immediately sent a notification of every alarm going off on the boat including the high water alarm. My boat was in dry rack storage at the time. I sent a note to Siren customer support asking for help with the password issue. Siren sent me a note back to confirm that I wanted to cancel my subscription. I sent them a note that I don’t want to cancel my subscription and have no idea why they would think that. Just fix the app! They then sent me a note suggesting to reset my password the day after I received an automated note saying that I had requested to reset the password, so click on the link - even though I had never requested to reset the password! I’m afraid to touch it since it now works on the iPad. Even when it works, it shows two different boats when it should be one boat. One for my Yamaha outboards and one for the Siren Marine. I had to go through the un-intuitive menu structure to delete one and add the Siren Marine info to the other. The Home Screen now is blank. The Siren Marine screen now doesn’t fit on the screen and has lost my settings so I have to delete a bunch of functions that I don’t have. I have never left an app review before but this is so bad I had let others know.

  3. 1/5A big step backward

What were they THINKING? The previous version of Siren Marine’s app was light years ahead of the new version, and it seems clear that no beta testing has been done on the new version which is klunky and hard to use and unintuitive. What’s wrong with the new version? Here are a few things that don’t work for me. No historical data is shown for high water alerts or shorepower alerts, both of which were available on the earlier version. Why was this removed? The only graphs choices for historical data are 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week. Why no other choices like 2 weeks or 1 month for longer term comparative tracking? I have a trawler yacht, but for boat types I cannot choose TRAWLER or write that in. My boat brand, American Tug, is not on the list and I cannot write that in. Why not allow write-ins? A new app version is supposed to be an improvement. Instead, this one is a big step backward. You CAN and SHOULD do better, Siren Marine. Oh, how I miss the old days when Siren Marine was so well run with its small, close-knit team by its founder, Dan Harding. Dan is probably rolling over in his grave over what’s happening with his baby. R.I.P., Dan. You left us and your company too soon.

  4. 4/5Version 1.6.3 a huge step forward in the right direction

Wow, so after a month and a half of misery, the latest update seemed to have fixed a slew of issues. Well done, glad you managed to stabilize the application and add some much needed changes like the battery tiles graph no longer starting at 0 👍. One feature that is still missing (from the original as well apps) is the ability to trigger a relay or a siren from the wireless high water sensor … seems like a huge oversight!! Well done overall, looking forward to future updates.

  5. 5/5Too many bugs

They should have kept the old app before releasing the new one there are a lot of bugs in this application with your anchor mode continuously going off sometimes 80 feet as they are using cellular instead of GPS location. You don’t have the green refresh on the tiles anymore and a lot of alarms are very late to alarm and send you a text as well as being removed or refreshed once the alarm has gone off, sometimes the alarm stays there for hours this is a very good system. I’m just hoping they can figure it out.
