  1. 5/5Finally!

Great app that allows you to plan ahead. Extremely useful to prepare for tournaments on courses you have never played before - much more user friendly and efficient than the good old Google Earth method. I don’t do data entry while playing. Looks like it would be a bit tedious. I have Arccos for shot tracking during rounds and then it is quite easy to review and enter shots on this app. I wish both would have a data interface. This feels like a new app and has a lot of potential. On my wishlist: display and / or factor in elevation changes; ability to save a “strategy” with notes, compatibility with shot tracking systems, target hcp carrying over different devices, web browser app.

  2. 2/5This rating is for subscription value only — round entry has too many critical bugs

I’m a paid user of the app. The ability to preview rounds and easily select targets and choose clubs is awesome. By itself, that makes the app worth having. But I got a paid sub so that I could enter my rounds and track my strokes gained. I waited until the GPS tracking was available, as I didn’t want to manually record everything (which the app DOES make quite easy, btw). The live round entry is a nightmare due to the existing bugs. For example, after tracking the first shot, when I change the flag position (once I’m close enough to actually see the green), sometimes the option to track shot #2 disappears. So I have to exit my round and come back to edit an existing round. That wouldn’t be a deal breaker except that occasionally, ~HALF OF THE SHOTS I PREVIOUSLY ENTERED HAVE NOW DISAPPEARED. Gone. As in, I’ll have gotten a par, but now shots 2 and 4 are just gone, while the app still shows shots 1 and 3, and has marked me down for an eagle. This has happened repeatedly, including AFTER finalizing a round and going back to edit a single hole. This is extremely frustrating, and for me, makes the app unusable for live round entry. There are other smaller bugs as well, but nothing near as bad as just losing/deleting shot data randomly. I’m a technical PM so I’m familiar with the challenges of building software and handling non-happy path edge cases, but these are critical failures. This app simply needs more testing (and subsequent bug fixes) before it’s ready for primetime. It’s capable of being quite good.

  3. 1/5Better apps out there

Was hoping this app would track my shots as I played so paid for the yearly subscription. Should have done my research because it does not. Yes it will give you dispersion data if you upload from a launch monitor that many of us do not have and yes it will show dispersion of clubs if you MANUALLY enter all shot data from a round to include targets you chose and resulting shot. I'm sorry but I can barely remember what I had for breakfast let alone 80-90 club selections, targets and results in a round. Way to much money for a year and it won't even track where you hit your ball too. It says no on course disruptions but its a huge disruption writing down all the club choices and results just To have to manually enter it in at the end of a round. It would be great if they at least had a club selector in app and a “I'm at my ball” button to at least gather that data. Other apps even have watch apps that do that. Its a great concept but in reality to much work to make the app useful.

  4. 4/5Almost perfect app!!

Absolutely love this app. I’ve used many apps to track in-depth statistics for strokes gained, avg. proximity, putting, etc… and this app is the best I’ve found so far. The only reason it isn’t 5-stars yet is because it is lacking just a couple features that some other apps have. 1. When looking at stats for a range of rounds (current options: 5 rounds, 20 rounds, this year, or last year), I would love for there to be an option to select a specific date range of rounds. This would allow the player to see how they’ve improved or where they haven’t over a specific range of dates. 2. After completing a round, would love for there to be an option to see a scorecard on strokes gained format. In other words, a better summary which includes my score, along with strokes gained and other stats, all in one page. This makes for a great social media post! 3. Would be really cool to see a page dedicated to personal bests! For example: least amount of putts in a round, longest drive, most birdies in a row, longest putt made, holes without 3-putt, etc. That being said… I love this app. If those few features were added it would be a no-brainer for every golfer who liked tracking stats to have this app. Thanks!

  5. 5/5Fantastic

This is a great app. I was looking for something that tracks more advanced stats and discovered this app. Was very happy to see in-round shot tracking introduced right after I began using this app. The uploading of launch monitor data is fantastic. And it’s also very well thought out that the app doesn’t throw all of that data in your face on the course, it just lets you replace it with the clean dispersion arc/circle. However, the advanced dispersion and strokes gained data is right there. The app is very well thought out, and Eric is fantastic at communicating to users. With just a couple more features this app could be the best GPS app there is. It is already a 9.5/10

All-New Shot Tracking! Try Auto Swing Detection on Apple Watch or our new quick shot capture on iPhone. The on-course shot tracking experience has been completely rebuilt — faster, smoother, and flexible enough to fit how you actually play. Apple Watch makes it easy to track shots without touching your phone. Auto swing detection captures each swing as it happens. Set the pin from your watch to quickly capture the hole location. On iPhone, the experience has been totally rebuilt to make it even easier to focus on golf. Tap once at the start of your shot. Tap once to pick a club, if you want to. No more confirming your lie or location when you arrive at the ball. Miss a shot? Map-based entry is a tap away mid-round — perfect for plugging in putts and chips without relying on GPS. Full round visibility makes edits easy. Insert shots, add shots, or adjust on the fly. Delete-and-restart is an option, never a requirement. This release also adds built-in scorecards and Local Rule E-5 support for two-stroke penalty drops. Shot tracking used to be the part of Shot Pattern that wasn't for every golfer — too high-touch. That's no longer the case. This update is intuitive enough to stay out of your way and powerful enough to make your stats better than ever. If performance is the priority, Shot Pattern is built for it.
