4/5Needs improvement.
Edit (1st Jul 2023): the recent updates have pretty much resolved all of my complaints below. I just dove for the first time again after certification and the app worked brilliantly. Not giving the 5 stars because I still feel a lot of this should’ve been figured out before rolling out to the public. Happy customer now. I can’t believe that Apple allowed this app to exists on the marketplace especially with an activity such as scuba diving where it is critical to have the right information at the right time. - The dive app in the watch ends without any notice as soon as you’re <1m depth. So if you start the dive on the watch and re-surface even for a little bit before descending for the actual dive, it will stop the dive monitoring and just go to surface mode. This is annoying and dangerous. I’m still a student but in my instructional dives, it was basically impossible to use since we were constantly surfacing. I can imagine this being a huge issue in a real dive as well. I found it was in surface mode mid dive and I couldn’t start the dive mid water for whatever reason even though I configured the action button. Supposed to have a 5 min timer before ending dive but that never happened - The no deco planner and location planner simply won’t open on my iPhone app. I have a 13 pro. Don’t care much about the planner as there are others that I can use but the auto surface mode really needs to be fixed asap. I wouldn’t advise using this without a backup computer.

1/5Works fairly well but needs polishing
I was excited to be able to try the app with the Apple Watch ultra. I used it as my backup dive computer on a trip to little cayman. The display is very readable and worked well comparing it to my main dive computer a Petrel 3. The issue I had was when I placed the app into the dive mode and did a giant stride into the water, the app apparently switched back to surface mode before I submerged and stayed locked in the surface mode ignoring the dive. It would be nice if the depth exceeded a certain amount ( 1 foot, 5 feet, 10 feet ? ) that it would switch back to the dive mode automatically. I missed logging 3-4 dives because of this issue. The Petrel 3 worked fine thankfully having all my data. My current issue is now my watch won’t sync with the app. I have deleted, reinstalled, given all permissions, etc. without any sync happening. It could be the iOS version or updates to the app, I’m not sure but it runs against Apple’s saying “ It just works” well this app just doesn’t work well. The latest update does allow my watch and phone to “see” each other. I now get a brief message that a sync is occurring. The issue I have now is that after the sync, since I had deleted and reinstalled the app, now after the sync, my watch does not show any dives in the log where my phone app does. I would expect a sync ( unless this is only a one way sync ) to result in the log on my watch and the log on my phone app to be the same.

1/5Frustrating Dive Housing
When it works, I can get great pictures/video. However, it’s the most unreliable, frustrating piece of dive equipment I’ve ever touched. When I first got it in Nov 2023, I took it on a dive trip and encountered numerous bugs. Repetitive authentication bug forgetting I had a subscription, blocking me from starting the dive housing process even in gauge mode (seems to have been fixed) Log/photo sync for multiple dives which would freeze the app and fail to actually upload anything (seems to have been fixed) The back viewport on the housing itself scratches/scuffs _extremely_ easily (kind of fixed myself with some plastic polish) Currently on the 2nd dive trip (July 2024) with the housing, and have only been able to use it for less than half my dives, the rest it’s been a useless dead weight because of overheating and going into thermal protection mode (mostly the app’s own mode, rarely the phones actual overheat shutdown protection). On an hour long dive, the app is draining ~45-50% of the battery on my 6mo old iPhone 15 pro. I did not have any problems like this in November, in similar air/water temperatures so it seems likely that some power bug has been introduced in one of the intervening app updates. Overheating has occurred in a variety of conditions (boat dives, shore dives, sunny, shady, cool water in a camera tub, scuba mode, gauge mode) I’m ready to chalk it up as a sunk cost and move on to a different photography solution. I want to take pictures, not pay money to beta test and be a qual engineer for oceanic

4/5Photo processing is outstanding
Just got the dive housing, which is quite intuitive to use except for the getting the phone out of the case, but once I learned how, it was super easy. The vacuum port is a little difficult to compress with just a finger, but it’s not too hard. The absolute best part is the photo processing on the app. My photos which were pretty darn good before were absolutely spectacular! And I also love that it handles video. The only thing I wish is that there was an image stabilizing function. The case itself is sleek and doesn’t look like any of the other cases I’ve seen on the Dive boat. I really love that it’s rechargeable instead of having to fiddle with batteries like my old case. Also, kudos on having an attached vacuum cap, because I have lost more than one on a dive boat with my old camera case. I like being able to see my Dive info on the screen. I’m not getting any younger and the display is bright enough that I can see, even at depth. This is by far my favorite case I’ve ever used. I took it on our most recent dive trip along with one other new Case and my old case to try it out, but after I used it the first time, I didn’t even bother with the other two!

5/5Disappointing : Edited (It’s not actually)
Edit: Oceanic posted a response to my review and it completely changed my mind. I thought the “snorkeling” mode wouldn’t track dive related things but it does. That being the case the app is really good, I’m excited to add it to my list of dive equipment. My only change to the app would be to add some clarification for the snorkeling mode in app, stating it can be used for diving too. Other than that it seems to be a great app! I have left my original review below for the sake of cohesion between their response and my review. But my original review has pretty much been washed clean of any concerns. Great job guys! Let me preface this by saying the app is great. It has all the functionality you need from a dive computer, without the air integration. If you’re willing to pay the monthly or annual fee it’s a fantastic app. But the fee is the issue. If you want to scuba dive with it you don’t have any option but to purchase a membership. You can only snorkel on the free version. It’s disappointing to see that there’s not an option for diving for free, even if it was a basic interface. Looks like I won’t be replacing my EON Core any time soon.

High-Resolution Photography: iPhone 14 and 15 users, get ready to snap pictures like never before! You can now take photos with a stunning 48 MP resolution using the main camera, a big jump from the usual 12 MP offered by other cameras. This feature will be accessible and manageable right from the user interface, but keep in mind, it's only available on compatible devices and lenses. "Advanced Video Stabilization: We've stepped up our game with new video stabilization systems. The standard one cuts out those pesky micro-vibrations without any lag in the preview during shooting. Plus, we've added a 'cinematic stabilization' that mimics a dolly-cam or gimbal effect, smoothing out shakes and fast movements for a movie-like feel. When using this mode, you might notice a slight delay, but that is normal for this type of shooting. Now, you've got the power to choose the best shooting system for your needs. We recommend giving these new features a dry run on land to get the hang of them before diving into any aquatic adventures." Cloud Sync Update: Cloud sync, in some circumstances, may encounter connection problems. We have implemented not only the Apple Watch Ultra>iPhone>Cloud communication, but also the Apple Watch Ultra>Cloud communication. This allows the devices to send information redundantly, ensuring greater reliability of the data transfer. Storage Space Check: Before and during diving, the available memory amount is displayed. This prevents usage issues during the dive and shows the actions to be taken. Smart Capture: Resolution of a bug within the Smart Capture function. Photo Folder: Saving in the iPhone's Photo folder while enabling permissions for only one album of the folder to further improve personal privacy. No Fly Widget: This widget now removes itself from the iPhone home screen once the countdown has elapsed. For more information on the Oceanic+ app and Dive Housing, visit our website.
