5/5Love working on this app!
I started working for Rover on here two years ago and I don’t regret it for a single minute. At first, you wonder why you’re having no clients since you don’t have anything but testimonials and suddenly just one client changes the game. I’ve built up so many clients who became regulars and love me in my community!! Some of my very first clients still requests bookings all the time and I thank them for always coming around. I usually don’t consider myself a people person much, but I can say that some of the kindest people I’ve met have been my Rover clients. I’ve gotten to take care of so many different fur babies that I enjoy too. There’s legit so many other pluses to this app I can name. You set your own rates, accept clients based on your own availability, and the job itself is easy and pleasant. What can I say? You’re around animals all day! The functionality of this app is pretty awesome too. I feel like they’re always making updates to the app. One of things I’ll note about Rover is that its services mainly catered more to dogs even when I started. They now have a feature you can edit on your profile that caters to cat parents ONLY so they can see your skills. It’s really nice to see since I see a lot of animal companies do stuff that caters towards dogs only. I just love this app all around. You really get all your time’s worth investing in the sign-up process and the background check! As I said, that first client really changes the game. I love this job and I will continue to work with Rover services for the next few years and always encourage people looking for extra money to pick this app up!

5/5Useful app; needs serious work
This is a useful app, but it needs serious work. Here are just a few issues (from the perspective of a pet owner; I can’t speak for the sitter side of things): It encourages you to send booking requests to multiple people, which is fine, but then there is no easy way to delete pending requests once you have already settled on a pet sitter. This is a nuisance for both the pet owner and the sitter (I know the latter because a frustrated sitter has asked me to delete the booking on my end, as she couldn’t easily do it either…) There is no calendar or even list view where you can see all past and future bookings. It’s all arranged by “conversations” (both bookings and non-bookings) which is not useful. No easy way to navigate to the page of a sitter you’ve used before. You have to do a search for a new booking—with a specific date—to see the pages. No place designated for instructions specific for a given trip. So, you have to include any specific details under the pet profile instead of having the two types of information as separate boxes—one under the pet profile, that carries from one booking to the next, and one only for communication/instructions with a specific sitter re a specific booking. Sure, you can message the sitter, but it would be much more convenient for everyone if there just was a text box associated with the booking (but not the profile), which you can edit etc as you think of any new details. These are just some of the issues. It’s fine for an app that’s just starting up, but Rover has been around long enough that there really is let a good excuse. Again, the idea is great. But c’mon Rover, hire some UX folks and make this better.

4/5Strange new privacy issue with that app
I have been a pet sitter now for almost 3 years and love the app and I’m very active with River. 720+ bookings so far and start sitter status. In the last couple of weeks though I have noticed that the app is granting itself permission to communicate with my “files” app on my iPhone. When I first noticed it, toggled the permission off. Only to find it back in later in the day. After a little trial and error I figured out that it’s happening whenever I upload photos for a visit via the app. But this shoukd not be happening because the photos come from the photos app. The files app has documents and files for my personal life and there is nothing from there I would upload to send to an owner and River has no reason to be communicating with my files. This was never a problem before until 2 weeks ago. I went for Rover Support who took the info from me and said I would get an email from tech support. This is a big privacy issue because it’s connected to an unrelated process and there is nothing way for me to proactively turn off permission and prevent Rover’s access. I’m giving The benefit of the doubt that this is just a bug and not something intentionally set up. But it needs to be fixed. I’m going to stop using the app for photo uploads and will rely only on sending photos by text message. This is unfortunate because it means I will no longer be able to send videos which are only sendable via the app. Once this is fixed I’ll moved the 4 stars backup to 5

4/5New Feature Suggestion & Critique from a Star Sitter
I suggest there be a different line on your calendar when you’ve restricted some but not all of your services. Somehow, the entire month was marked as unavailable for house sitting, leading to me earning less than $1k, and I live off of this full time. I’m not sure why it bugged, but if I had a mark on the calendar I would’ve figured it out sooner why I wasn’t getting booking requests. Also for new sitters; Rover will take 24% of your earnings, and charge your clients 11%, meaning they get 30% of all money exchanged. Despite this there is a side gig economy for this, so people will do house sitting for ~$20 / day because it’s just a small part of it. I wish there was an option to mark yourself as a career sitter and not just a gig worker. It is hard for people to understand why the price has so much difference until they’ve messaged plenty of sitters to find out whose actually available during the day. I am thankful for Rover, without it I wouldn’t earn a living as it’s hard to get references when you travel & it provides a nice way for clients to see all your reviews. I just wish they only took 15% or something. I’m sure they could run just fine on that, it’s just hard when anyone can just list themselves for $30 and people are less likely to message you when you’re charging twice that but have twice the time and triple the experience

3/5As a pet sitter I do have some concerns/tips of improvement
The app as a whole is an amazing idea. It’s helpful and helps me build clients. My only suggestions of improvement is a place for dog owners to put in vaccinations if the sitter requires them. There is no where in the app for a sitter to require vaccinations nor a place to the owner to put the vaccination records in. I think this needs to change ASAP. When I request vaccinations I sometimes get pushback and am fearful that it will effect my rating due to rover not making it an option to require it or not. Another suggestion I have is that I wish all forms of care come with a “Rover Card” if it’s boarding you get a new one daily to fill out and if it’s just day sitting, it doesn’t close once you add a walk. I love the idea of a rover card because it implements constant updates, shows proof of walks and lets the owners know their pets are being cared for. When I say sit though I don’t do the walk right before pick up, and want that walk recorded for the owner. If I record the walk though it closes the rover card which ends the stay even though the owner isn’t picking up yet. I’d love to see these changes in rover and would love to feel my ideas and concerns are being heard by rover. I do not need rover to have a successful dog sitting but use it to help build clientele. I just feel if Rover is taking 20% of my profits they should be willing to make a few changes to help improve my use of the app!
