   It’s been two months now, multiple phone calls and emails and being spoken to rudely and still haven’t been paid for one shift. ONE SHIFT! Two months for payment? People use this app to get money quick. Twice they said they would deposit my money within three days. My bank had been verified twice but apparently not completely. Had to give a random person there my personal information including my banking information to try and have them do it (they said this way would be faster and easier) since nope, now coming up on another week after giving them my personal information to verify my bank and get paid. I worked one single shift two months ago and have not been paid. I have had multiple 0.01 cent deposits into my account and nothing verified?! I will never use this relief app ever again and will continue to tell my friends to stay away from it. If it is this hard for you to pay someone YOU have a problem not ME and my bank! FIX YOUR PAYMENT ISSUES!

2. 5/5Great but needs changes

   I think this app is phenomenally built well and super easy to navigate. I would like if they had away for too techs to put their availability so other hospitals can see. Or a way for too tech to message hospitals to offer them different times. For example if there is an 8-4 shift but tech can only do 8-2 they can offer that to the hospital but it’s up to the hospital to accept that. Just a thought

   I heard about Roo from a coworker and it changed my life! I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to do what I love as a travelling technician. The ability to go to different hospitals is beneficial in broadening my horizons as a technician, sharpening my skills as I am exposed to different skill sets, and at the same time enjoy new experiences. I absolutely love it! Thank you Roo for coming to Georgia.

4. 5/5Relief Work Made Easy

   Several months ago I joined the Roo team just to see what was out there and maybe make some extra money if the “right” shift became available. I browsed the shifts occasionally but never requested any. Then I got laid off. Having an immediate option to continue earning money was wonderful. It took away all the stress of losing my job. I’ve done three shifts so far and it’s been amazing. All the little stressful details of finding relief shifts are already taken care of, so all I have to do is go out and be a good doctor. Hospital staff has been so grateful to me for filling shifts, keeping their doors open so that they can come to work and earn a paycheck, so I’ve not seen any unfriendly employees so far. And I’m making a lot more money than I have ever earned per shift, even though I’m careful to save some of it for taxes. So far I’ve signed up for a total of 9 shifts, and will be able to easily pay my bills for another two months. I am considering doing relief work long term now. I will definitely never again consider taking a regular job that isn’t a good fit for me because bills needto be paid.

The silver lining is that competing relief platforms are reportedly entering the space with more clinician-friendly models—lower or flat fees, and even added support like business guidance (for example, S-corp setup) and retirement planning options (such as SEP IRAs)—so clinicians can keep more of what they earn while hospitals can afford to use relief staff more consistently. For now, the tradeoff Roo offers is speed and convenience in exchange for lower net pay and restrictive terms that can function like a non-compete. In practice, if you work a shift through Roo at a hospital owned by a large corporate group (for example, BluePearl, VCA, Banfield, Mission, PetVet, etc.), the fine print may limit your ability to take direct employment with that organization for a set period (often around a year—check the exact timeframe in the contract). It’s worth understanding these constraints up front so you’re not surprised later. One additional downside: many clinicians report that communication from Roo staff can feel unprofessional or overly patronizing—more like being spoken to as a child than as a licensed medical professional. Bottom line: Roo may be useful for quick cash and rapid scheduling, but there are real costs—lower take-home rates, added strain on hospitals, and contract terms that can complicate future job options. Know the pros and cons before relying on it. And to Roo’s founders: enjoy the margin while it lasts. This app is exactly the kind of product AI makes trivial to reproduce—and competitors that don’t siphon off 20%+ are already lining up. If you keep acting like the gatekeeper instead of the partner, the market will replace you faster than you can update your terms of service.
