1. 5/5Great first trip with Roadtrippers

   We just completed our first trip using Roadtrippers. When starting our planning about 6 months ago, I had downloaded a different app at first but it was clunky and frustrating to work with. Roadtrippers was intuitive in adding stops and easy to reorder and change stops as necessary. The summary trip overview (details) is nice and was only a few dollars off in its gas cost estimation which I tracked separately. I’d love to be able to track gas and other expenses right in the app and if that feature is available, the. I missed it. I’d also love to see the details page include the number of days/nights . One fun feature I enjoyed seeing each day on our trip was the icon moving along on the map with where we were on our trip. It would be nice if the itinerary view followed along also and immediately scrolled to the day in question or similarly highlighted the section of the itinerary where we were physically at. One other thing that could be helpful is the itinerary pdf export to include the day in addition to the date. The online itinerary includes both, but the export only includes the date. I’d also like to be able control what the itinerary export includes. For example, maybe I just want the itinerary without the pictures so it fits neatly on 1 page.

   This is a really good app. Definitely recommend it. Mostly an easy way to put a trip together, plan stops, construct a map. I would give it 5 stars except for a few very frustrating things that drag this app down. And could easily be fixed. I do understand that maybe it’s user error, but … When you are on a trip, you open the trip and it goes to your current location in Map View. However, when you open the List View for that trip, why doesn’t it go to your current location instead of starting from day one and you have to scroll all the way down until you find what you’re looking for. The way dates are managed is a complete nightmare. Changing the dates of an entire trip is such a hassle. And you cannot plan a trip without dates as once you add your first date, the app puts every single waypoint on a separate date!! Who thought that was a good idea?! You can add things that are not on the map already, but you can only add an address, you cannot label the address as to what it is. There are a lot of things that are not included on the map that I would like to add to my trips. And label with a name. This app is not a standalone app. You need other sources to complete the picture. Especially because there is a blue line indicating your route that completely covers up the highway numbers. Highway numbers are essential to trip planning. Also, can you update the gas pricing? It’s no where near accurate. And organize the trips into past and upcoming/future?

3. 5/5Feeling disappointed

   I wish I could give Roadtrippers more stars because I love it! I use it several times a year. I’ve added a lot of reviews and photos on places that didn’t have anything. However, I’m really disappointed that they have changed the number of “waypoints” or places that you can add to trips without paying $30 a year for premium. It makes sense, but it is way too much. Still their app is the best for planning a road trip with multiple points and finding obscure places to visit on the way. Now the free version is basically unusable for road trips. Hopefully this price point will change, because I will not pay for it as is. Update May 2024: I have used the app for my one annual three week roadtrip for years. And have been paying yearly for it as well. Unfortunately the app has changed it price point again and is nearly unusable without upgrading the plan again. There’s nothing else like it and it really is a great app, but I’m so frustrated. The subscription auto renewed recently and I had to pay for the higher plan to be able to use it. Need to see about the possibility of getting refunded for the previous charge. Hoping for the best!

4. 3/5So much potential but alas..

   I have been using the Roadtrippers App for a year now. We have utilized the app on 12 trips from Texas to both the west and east coasts. I enjoy the search functions and map layers. We use BLM and Forrest Service much of the time. The dispersed camping searches and map layers helped. However as a Navigation app, Roadtrippers is severely lacking. The loss of map settings each time you start a new segment of a trip is frustrating. You have to back out of 4 windows to reactivate the settings. The routing choices are abysmal and trying to modify a route is not intuitive and is difficult. Trip planning tools are very effective but when it is time to navigate, the planning is all trashed and Roadtrippers throws all of your planning out. The volume of the app is too low. Despite traffic being selected, it does not work, (a freeway closure and no warning or routing options). This is a cumbersome app. These are just a few of the items I have seen. To PAY a hefty subscription each year and not be able to drive and navigate in a manner that does not have me backtracking, second guessing , running other navigation apps to vet Roadtrippers or trying to press a touch screen over and over again while driving is not very good. I love planning but do not enjoy planning and having all my plans being thrown out.

5. 1/5Bug caused complete data loss

   I’ve been a paying member of RoadTrippers for three years, but I won’t be renewing again, due to a loss of trust. I’m currently on a road trip, and planning another. Due to RoadTrippers new three-tiered paid memberships, I’m now limited to three trips on my current plan. Earlier today I decided to clone one of my trips, to play around with alternate routes. Because I had a bunch of old trips saved, from the past several years before the limited the number of trips, I had to delete some of the old ones to make space for the one I wanted to work on. That’s when I encountered a catastrophic bug: the list of trips wasn’t refreshing properly as I deleted my old trips, and I ended up deleting my current trip and my upcoming trip. I’d been tracking all my campsite reservations in RoadTrippers, so now I’m going to have to waste several hours not just piecing together the trips I’d planned, but also searching my email for reservation details. I was already frustrated by their new pricing tiers, specifically that a long time member is suddenly being billed MORE for a lower tier with fewer features, but a data failure like this is unforgivable. The app is supposed to make trip planning easier, but what just happened will make finalizing plans for these two trips so much harder. I’m absolutely furious. * update: the fact that they responded with a canned message (they must be getting a lot of complaints about the membership tiers) that didn’t even acknowledge the data loss bug is pretty telling. I won’t be renewing.

   your upgrade did not work I fiddled with the app for over an hour to get it to just load the trip. And to charge $60 for a subscription, wow....

   What happened? I just want to see cool spots along my road trip route, this app used to be fantastic for that. I just mapped out a trip with friends and was bragging about my app that will lead us to some amazing spots... And now we know where the next truck stop is. No idea where the cool roadside spots went because I couldn't find one cool place to visit on a 1400 mile road trip. These vultures ruin everything
