1. 5/5As a “radio archivist” collecting radio shows from...

   ...all over the US, since 1968, I can tell you for sure, that Radio Paradise is the best adult contemporary AOR station I have EVER heard. It knocked Sirius/XM from that top spot, something I never thought could happen. I attribute this to RP’s “DJ’s” and owners/ operators of this station....and to the internet, which allows and sustains the format. I would call this “free form” radio, but really, it reflects the deep, rich, musical tastes of the DJ’s in a very personal way, that gives us musical segues and trails of complementary tunes that, at times, take the listener on a musical journey. Sometimes it is just SO good I cannot turn it off...to sleep! Once located in Paradise CA. When I heard of the horrible wild fire there, I called immediately and was relieved to hear the reassuring words from the DJ, that “They had moved shortly before the fire, to a nearby, but safe location.” Phew! With the costs involved, and priceless music collections, such a disaster could have knocked them off the air forever. This also brings to mind that RP listeners should NOT take the station for granted. Run by two people, you cannot expect RP to last forever. This may be the golden days of internet radio, so cherish it while its here. The QUALITY of RP, is unique, and almost miraculous nowadays. ❤️ GE Wamser

2. 5/5Why did it get ugly?

   Longtime RP listener here and I’ve donated at least twice. I’ve always loved it. But all of a sudden the groovy hippie dippy red and green interface that lets you rate songs on an amusing 10- level scale has been replaced by a hideous black and white thick block letter list of channels and you can simply rate songs with a heart if you like them. I never thought the visuals would matter to me — I’m here for the music— but it’s so aggressively ugly it ruins my mood for at least 10 seconds every time I see it. Plus, there’s a huge difference between a sicko barfo song and a tolerable one and the rating system no longer lets us register that difference. Please bring back the old Radio Paradise experience! This is Radio Purgatory! Update (the next day): so I went on RP the next day and didn’t like any of the music on any of the channels (sometimes the DJ is fire but today, meh) so I looked for my mix and it was GONE! So then for some reason I reloaded the app and my favorite groovy interface with 10-point rating scale and my mix is BACK! I’m happy again! It looks like we can still have both interfaces, though I’m not clear what makes one or the other appear. Very happy camper. I’m about to listen to my mix til the DJ gets a new burst of genius inspiration — thanks, RP!

   I’ve been listening for a long time and I like the idea that I can choose a mellow channel if I want to or the main mix. The first review is by a person who is a lot like me. I know all the songs of the 60s and 70s and love them, but I’m learning so much more about global music and I’m hearing a lot of music I never heard before. I learned so much. I like the skip ahead feature in the ratings feature. That allows me to have my favorites channel of songs over the years that I have rated highly. I listen to the main channel. I find the music to be very high class mixes, slow together seamlessly and I will never change! The station was recommended by Naim and was placed on my stereo. The discovery was delightful! I feed feral cats in the evenings and they and the racoons and love the music and come and sit not so close every night. sorry this is so long.!

4. 5/5A listening experience with fellow Listeners

   After more than a Decade of listening to this streaming music community, my interest keeps being renewed. I quantify it to more than buying a new Album or CD just by the new music that I am discovering. That’s a tangible reason that I support an amount twice a year each year. There’s nothing like it. I admire their commitment to Audiophiles like myself with an interest I can tell, of their own. Like my local College radio wrek slogan says, An Oasis in the Desert of (internet) radio. Truly! I share RP with everyone around me who appreciates music like I do. I don’t know how they do it, with the Human touch…a true companion in a network of 0’s & 1’s. haha. I still remember the time their Doggies made a guest appearance. Barking at something in the background! “I’m trying to run a Radio Program here”, was heard next. I love it!

5. 5/5The only music app you’ll ever need

   Radio Paradise has been the soundtrack for my life for 16 years. Even though I have an extensive and diverse music library, I literally listen to RP all day every day...for 16 years. No commercials, no advertising, no annoying chatter and no repetitiveness!! You’ll hear Violent Femmes juxtaposed with Vivaldi, Neil Finn with Fleetwood Mac, a live version of Peter Gabriel you’ve never heard before with Paula Cole. There’s usually a clever reason why those diverse songs belong together. They both begin with V! Neil Finn of Crowded House just replaced Lindsay Buckingham, Paula Cole used to sing backup with Peter Gabriel, etc. It’s fun trying to figure it out. No, you can’t program what songs you want to hear and that’s a great thing! Sit back and let these brilliant people expose you to new artists and genres, or to flow your mood in directions you didn’t expect. On top of all this, you can cache pretty much endless amounts of music so that you can rock out while you’re offline and not use any data. There, you can pick categories to download...rock mix, mellow mix, eclectic, world or main. And if you turn your phone or tablet sideways, there’s riveting and gorgeous slideshow that complements the music that’s playing. And here’s something incredibly important: it’s listener supported. This means they rely on money from listeners like me to keep the show rolling (and I am VERY happy to give them money!) They don’t do support drives or hammer you with pleas for money. They’ll thank you for listening to Radio Paradise “commercial-free, listener-supported radio” and that is it. It’s beautiful and so rare in these days. Please PLEASE give these people money if you enjoy their music...and I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t. Their selections are that diverse. Anything helps but please do think about what you’d pay for any other music service. Go ahead and compare. IMHO there is nothing else out there like it or even comes close to the diversity, cleverness, and sheer coolness of what Bill and Rebecca Goldsmith are up to.
