  1. 5/5Cute Game But Minor Bugs

I REALLY love this game! I’ve been playing it for almost 2 weeks now and I love the feeling of waking up to see what Pokémon I have found hoping there’s a shiny one. My phone never overheats and neither does my charger thanks to the game dimming the screen or basically putting it in some kind of sleep mode. I’ve see reviews on phones overheating but we move in our sleep so you may have slept on it. Anyways, I do find it nice that there is a game that can track your sleep without paying like certain apps and I can get some feedback and some funny little recordings here and there. With the actual game though, if you take a nap and then go to bed that same day, it will not let you at all because you’ve already slept. I would love to where it let you take naps and also sleep at the same time. But also, I’ve only encountered this once but there was one time I slept from 11pm-10am and when I went to go review my data, it said there was nothing to be reviewed and I lost all that data and Pokemon I could’ve possibly encountered. But it has only happened once. If it occurs more than 3 times, I’m giving my rating a four star. But if you’re reading this please fix the sleep only once a day feature. It can make more people play during the day when taking naps and instead of just playing it at night.

  2. 4/5Love the app except for one thing

Ever since I first opened this app I’ve loved it, I thought it was adorable and a really neat way of trying to motivate people to get more sleep. I have almost no complaints about how the game works or functions, as it feels like you’re actually working towards something but not in a way that’s grindy or obnoxious, just an extra little fun thing to add to your day. My one and only complaint is that once you’ve used it for a bit, the sleep styles become very very difficult to get a different one. For the past 2 weeks I’ve gotten either slumbering or dozing, on occasion get balanced, and have not gotten snoozing sleep style since my first week using the app. This wouldn’t be an issue if there weren’t a ton of pokemon locked behind that specific sleep style, and from what I understand the snoozing style is apparently based on if you snore or make noise in your sleep? Which if this true a bit sad because that means there’s an entire group of pokemon unavailable to me solely bc I don’t snore at night. It feels like no matter how little or much I sleep, how well rested I feel, etc. I am locked to slumbering sleep type now. So I just get the same pokemon over and over again, and it’s getting frustrating to the point where I’m not motivated to use the app as much. If there’s any way to do something about the sleep styles being more varied or even a way to influence which pokemon might show up outside of their normal sleep style, I think it would go a very long way.

  3. 5/5Almost perfect

I really have been enjoying using this app. There are a couple things I would like it to do that would make it even better. The first should be pretty easy: have the app categorized under Health & Fitness rather than Games. Most people interested in this app are going to have a crowded Games selection and little under Health & Fitness, so moving the app will make it much quicker to find and use. The second thing I would like is probably more difficult. If possible, I would like it if the app could report sleep data to the iPhone Health app. It’s the only sleep tracker I used prior to Pokémon Sleep, and because of how it keeps the phone active my Health app doesn’t think I sleep at all anymore. The last issue I have is with the day rollover. While I am not having trouble with it now, I was a couple weeks ago during some hard nights. I would go to bed in the early morning rather than closer to midnight, and the game would count my sleep from the wrong day. Sometimes problems arise and people go to bed much later than they want to. I would suggest having the day changeover based off the individual’s assigned bedtime (maybe 3-4 hours prior) rather than whatever arbitrary time it is currently set for. This would make most naps or disorganized sleep times count towards the sleep schedule of your previous bedtime rather the upcoming one, and would overall improve enjoyment for people who have sleep problems.

  4. 4/5Good idea, could be expanded upon

As someone who struggles with getting up in the morning, something like Pokemon Sleep is what I have needed for a while. It gives me a different habit to get into other than scrolling on social medis before going to sleep and after waking up, and motivation to actually get to bed on time. However, there are things that could be better. The main one that bothers me is the sound structure. The music and sounds themselves are ok (though it would be nice to have some actual options for alarm sounds), but the speakers used on Apple devices at least are a bit odd. In order to hear sound when using the main app, the ringer needs to be on. But when using the alarm/sleep features, it uses the main speaker system, so if your sound is off or too low it doesn’t go off. Other sleep tracking apps I have used in the past automatically turn volume up when the in app alarms are going off, but not this one. I’ve come into practice of using multiple alarms outside of the app after missing an event in the morning. On a different note, I would like to see some other way to get ingredients for cooking in game. With how much the pot can hold, as well as how many ingredients are actually needed for recipies, my ingredients pocket always seems pretty bare unless I use the tickets, which only allow for a certain number of uses before you can’t buy anymore for the month. It would be nice to have an ingredient finder mini-game of some sort, like sending a Pokemon off to colect just ingredients for the day or something along those lines. Overall, it’s a great start, but could come a long way still.

  5. 5/5Perfect: for encouraging sleep

This isn’t a health app, this is a sleep encouraging app. I suffer from severe anxiety and in turn, sleep anxiety. It’s hard to get good sleep/convincing myself I deserve it. It’s easy to get absorbed into my work and tell myself to push a few more hrs n find myself running on 5hrs of sleep a WEEK. This app has helped convinced me to sleep, give me an obligation and reason other than what I have been able to push aside: my health. The app is versatile, I work nights and sleep days and I can set my own bed time. It rewards me for sleeping consecutively around my bed time, sleeping every day n clean slating every week so the dread of messing up doesn’t make me quit, n just sleeping(n not oversleeping, 45 mins up to a healthy amount). It never punishes. There’s still Pokémon every “morning” to befriend + a bonus cookie. Every “morning” is a reason to wake up, every “night” is a reason to sleep. I have gotten more sleep in the last month than I have in a long while. It’s helped with stress and work. And attaching sleep to these cute character’s energy lvls is surprisingly effective of making me wanting to rest a good amount. If I wake up early in a bout of anxiety, I look at my lil dude sleeping and the time and m able to decide to go back to bed till my alarm wakes me instead of forcing myself to start my day early. This game has effectively turned my life from “A few more hours, I can get this done. Just a few more hours.” to “Don’t worry Slakoth, I’ll go to bed soon :]”
