  1. 5/5Inflated number of plays of songs on playback

I just want to first start off by thanking you for such an amazing app! I have had PlayTally downloaded since the first of the year and have thoroughly enjoyed checking my music stats daily and have experienced very little to no problems since purchase. However, over the past 72 hours most every time I open the app and refresh to do a playback I’m prompted with a message that says it has detected multiple playbacks of the same song and then asks to keep all or the most recent. Whenever given the choice I click to keep the most recent, but several of the times I’m not given the choice and my song history is then spammed with 20+ “plays” of the same song each with asterisks next to it. It’s very frustrating and has only just started doing this now so I’m very confused. Such a great app but it’s getting frustrating having to go through and delete all the incorrect playbacks

  2. 5/5Must have app for music lovers

Music is a big important part of my life, and this app is the best app to view nice statistics and ranking for every song, album, and artist in your Apple Music library. No other app comes close to what this app does and all the statistics it gives. There was a change I disliked, but the developer reads reviews and community feedback every few weeks and gave me a nice toggle to customize my app experience, and I love it even more. Absolutely recommended. Old review: … Then out of nowhere the dev decided to change all time formats to minutes only, no seconds or hours, which is a lot less useful and meaningful especially when you listen to a lot of music like me. PLEASE HAVE THE OPTION TO CHANGE TIME FORMATS BACK TO HOW THEY WERE BEFORE THE UPDATE. This minutes only thing is terrible and imprecise and the app was a lot better before this latest update.

  3. 5/5Works perfectly, only have one problem

PlayTally has been a great app to view my music stats and I’ve loved it every since I got it. The only problem I have with it is that sometimes it will count a song twice (says that it’s been played in the same minute) and it will do this for every stream that happened in a day. Sometimes it doesn’t happen but most of the time it does and I have to manually remove streams to make it more accurate. Would be great if you made it so it would auto-remove a double stream for a song that says it been played two times in the same minute. Besides that, I’ve have had an amazing experience and will continue to use it. Hope this gets fixed

  4. 5/5PLEASEEE BRING BACK THE RANKING DISPLAY OPTION 🙏🙏

edit: do you remember on the trending tab there was a button on the right below the calendar that said ‘rank’? it was to the right of the artist, albums, or genres button. and there was an option to make the songs trend by like a mix of play count, time listened, skip count, etc. i just thought it was really cool and unique to rank the songs more diversely but i think it went away in a recent update. i don’t know if you could bring this back or not but it would be really cool if you could i really enjoyed that feature 😭 sorry. other than that this app is amazing i love it!! if you do get around to doing this, thank you so much !!!

  5. 5/5Must-have app for any Music Fanatic

So, let me just say, I LOVE this app. It has so many neat features that show you data based on your music library. It shows you how many hours you have been listening to certain genres, albums, artists and much more, all in a very easy to understand out. There is one really small issue I have with the app though. It puts in very accurate play times for all of my songs, except it overplays the song ‘Amoeba’ by Clairo. It puts in fake plays, saying I have listened to it MUCH more than I really did, but it isn’t that big of an issue for me. Still a must have app with very interesting stats.

    • Transfer History: got stats for the same song split across a single version and album version? Now you can transfer PlayTally play events from one playback history to another and merge those plays! Note: I'm working on trying to merge the actual Apple Music plays as well, but for now this feature can only move PlayTally's own play records.

  • 1.0.15

A small but important update: a fix to the crashing issues using the "Import CSV" function. I wanted to get this out ASAP, so stay tuned for new additions in the future.

HamburgfonstivWTF?! Previous builds seem to be employing a threading strategy that recent versions of iOS 15 doesn't like. While scrolling this could result in information not being presented correctly, or at all (showing the placeholder text instead). Things have been updated and everything should be displaying correctly again. I appreciate everyones patience with this update. As many may know, PlayTally is a single-person operation and life got in the way of pushing this update in a more timely manner. Thank you!

Today's update brings a non-descript but very powerful new feature: History Editing. Now when viewing a song, tap "View History" to call up a list of all of that tracks recorded playback events. You can edit, remove and even create individual play events to fine-tune your PlayTally records.

There have been some reviews and reports from users of the app "stopping working (entirely)". I think the issue here is actually that PlayTally is working TOO hard! If a very large backlog of playback activity builds up, it can take some time for it all to be processed. This happens in the background, and in previous builds could appear as inactivity, or simply "not working". SO WHAT CAN YOU DO, MIKE? - This update brings improvements to visualizing this work process, so it's more clear to the user that the app is indeed doing work. - Improvements to prevent disruptions to the syncing process. - Improvements to the Import/Export functionality. Note: this includes some formatting updates (to support stricter iOS 16 updates), so users may find old archives do not import cleanly. WHAT CAN THE USER DO, MIKE? - PlayTally is fastest and most accurate when it scans the users music library regularly. - Creating an automated Shortcut to open PlayTally daily or weekly is a GREAT way to ensure data does not backlog. I STRONGLY recommend users implement this. - Keeping Background Sync enabled allows more frequent scans without disrupting your flow. As always, thanks for the support! I hope every one of you have a wonderful New Year.

This update fixes the display-related crashes some users are experiencing. This update includes substantial performance improvements – like, embarrassingly so – when handling large amounts of data (i.e. Lifetime stats) in the History and Trending tabs. --- PlayTally is fastest and most accurate when it scans the users music library regularly: - Creating an automated Shortcut to open PlayTally daily or weekly is a GREAT way to ensure data does not backlog. • 1.3.1

    • Threading changes to the search logic. Most users with small-medium library should find no noticeable difference. Hopefully this will be the same for users with large libraries – the new code is more stable :)

  • 1.3.2

Additional stability improvements to the History tab. If you are enjoying PlayTally, please consider leaving a 5-star review on the App Store! They really help new users make the decision to give the app a try :)

You people asked for it: this update adds Albums and Genres to the Trending tab!! This feature required adding a new data property to each songs playback history. Trending albums and genres will become visible as you listen more and engage with content within the app. You can use the "Force Scan" option in the Settings tab to fast-track this process for your existing data.

Hey! So some users seem to be experiencing crashes on launch over the last few months. Firstly, I apologize to those users that are experiencing problems. It's been difficult to conclusively resolve. That said, the reports of issues seem to have started around the time the year end awards were introduced in November. Since those won't trigger until next November, all of that code has been disabled. If you have been experiencing the crash on launch issue and this resolves it, please let me know! If it doesn't, let me know that too! And if you aren't experiencing the issue, and are enjoying your PlayTally experience, please consider posting a rating and review!! Thanks :)

  • 1.4.8

MASSIVE thanks to Ken M. for sharing some additional details in regards to the ongoing crash issue. It turns out it's not related to my awards code at all! It's an issue with polling the status of the system player, which is a frustratingly regular source of crashes and an issue I am working on across all my apps, just not PlayTally. (Did you know I have other apps? Check'em out!) The good news is that bulk of the crashes are associated with the system polling that shows the playback progress of the current song. And THAT is a totally superficial feature that is not worth a substantial set of users experience this issue. So it's turned off while I explore solutions. I sincerely hope that this finally resolves the issue for those experiencing it. If not, please continue to let me know!

  • 1.4.9

    - A few more "minor" bug fixes. They're the most severe showing up on the crash reports, but much more minor than previously! Seems like the recent update has resolved a lot of crashes. But I know a few folks are still having issues. Hopefully this fixes it, if not, let me know! There's a major update in the works...
