5/5Learnt Spanish and found a girlfriend after 5y
It all started in the US, when I was preparing for a trip to Mexico four months later. I really wanted to learn the language of the country I was going to visit. I wanted to be able to chat with waiters, guides, and people in the street. And it all happened… until I met this girl at a bar. She didn’t speak English at all, so I ended up speaking Spanish with her all night long - and eventually kissed her. It’s been a few months now that I’ve been hanging out with her, and I just want to say thank you to the Parrot team. I really enjoyed my time on the app and learned so much without even realizing it. It was actually fun. Than youuu. ❤️

This app has big problems, and it's almost instantly clear that the developer paid for thousands of fake five-star ratings. It's grounded in a set of Spanish grammar lessons recorded in Landscape 16:9 by someone a while ago for a TOTALLY DIFFERENT PROJECT. If you were recording grammar lessons for an iPhone app, you record those videos in portrait orientation. That's the first tell that something's not right. Instead of giving you discrete sentences to translate or transcribe in Spanish, the developers simply clipped out sentences from these old grammar videos... in the clips are poorly executed, often cutting off words at the beginning and the end. That makes responding correctly impossible much of the time. The video grammar lessons end abruptly at totally random nonsensical points and then they ask you to translate three random words - no connection to the grammar lesson, no change to practice that grammar. Finally, the grammar lessons are given in Spanish, not English - which is asking a lot even of B2 levels. The teacher throws in tons of side commentary that is confusing and distracting. There's more wrong, but anyone spending five minutes with this app in the very beginning that the reviews must've been faked.

I was recommended to use this app by a native Spanish speaker. And I have only been using this app for a few days but I can already say that I have improved immensely. I used Duolingo on and off for a few years and couldn’t tell you a single thing I remember learning. In these past few days my (Colombian native) boyfriend has told me how genuinely shocked he is at how well my Spanish is and even I am proud of myself. I knew next to nothing but I am already learning full sentences and phrases, and he even said I’m learning words he didn’t even know of. The videos in this app are extremely helpful, and they teach you what each little word means. Not only that but I feel like this is a way more realistic way of talking versus Duolingo teaching you things you will never use. I was worried about spending money on an app I didn’t know anything about, but I will say that my 10$ was well spent.

5/5Great for Actually Learning a Language
For a while, I used Duolingo but after a year, I realized it was more scratching a completion itch in my brain rather than actually progressing my language learning. Parrot feels like its built for you to actually learn a language. It utilizes much more realistic examples and does a great job of assessing your current progression level. It then tailors its content to your level. Overall, very excited to keep using Parrot and finally get to fluent, or at least conversational, in español :)

          "body": "It all started in the US, when I was preparing for a trip to Mexico four months later. I really wanted to learn the language of the country I was going to visit. I wanted to be able to chat with waiters, guides, and people in the street. And it all happened… until I met this girl at a bar. She didn’t speak English at all, so I ended up speaking Spanish with her all night long - and eventually kissed her. It’s been a few months now that I’ve been hanging out with her, and I just want to say thank you to the Parrot team. I really enjoyed my time on the app and learned so much without even realizing it.           "body": "This app has big problems, and it's almost instantly clear that the developer paid for thousands of fake five-star ratings. It's grounded in a set of Spanish grammar lessons recorded in Landscape 16:9 by someone a while ago for a TOTALLY DIFFERENT PROJECT. If you were recording grammar lessons for an iPhone app, you record those videos in portrait orientation. That's the first tell that something's not right. Instead of giving you discrete sentences to translate or transcribe in Spanish, the developers simply clipped out sentences from these old grammar videos... in the clips are poorly executed, often cutting off words at the beginning and the end. That makes responding correctly impossible much of the time. The video grammar lessons end abruptly at totally random nonsensical points and then they ask you to translate three random words - no connection to the grammar lesson, no change to practice that grammar. Finally, the grammar lessons are given in Spanish, not English - which is asking a lot even of B2 levels. The teacher throws in tons of side commentary that is confusing and distracting. There's more wrong, but anyone spending five minutes with this app in the very beginning that the reviews must've been faked.",

          "body": "I was recommended to use this app by a native Spanish speaker. And I have only been using this app for a few days but I can already say that I have improved immensely. I used Duolingo on and off for a few years and couldn’t tell you a single thing I remember learning. In these past few days my (Colombian native) boyfriend has told me how genuinely shocked he is at how well my Spanish is and even I am proud of myself. I knew next to nothing but I am already learning full sentences and phrases, and he even said I’m learning words he didn’t even know of. The videos in this app are extremely helpful, and they teach you what each little word means. Not only that but I feel like this is a way more realistic way of talking versus Duolingo teaching you things you will never use. I was worried about spending money on an app I didn’t know anything about, but I will say that my 10$ was well spent.",

          "body": "For a while, I used Duolingo but after a year, I realized it was more scratching a completion itch in my brain rather than actually progressing my language learning. Parrot feels like its built for you to actually learn a language. It utilizes much more realistic examples and does a great job of assessing your current progression level. It then tailors its content to your level. Overall, very excited to keep using Parrot and finally get to fluent, or at least conversational, in español :)",
