OS Maps: Walk, Hike, Run, Bike

In this latest release you can now use OS Maps in landscape mode to create and find routes.

In this release you can now save a dropped pin to your ‘Saved’ area so that you can use it later. You can choose to save your favourite pub, point of interest, or some where new you’d like to explore. You can then add a saved pin to a route, and share with friends. To save a pin, drop a pin or search for a location then tap ‘Save pin'. You can turn pins on or off by going to the map layers (3 squares icon), and see a list view under ‘Pins’ on the Saved tab.

In this release, we’ve made improvements to map loading speeds and you can now watch a 3D fly-through of your route in portrait or landscape mode before heading out to follow it.

Introducing Retrace Ever wished you could just tap and head back the way you came? Now you can! Our brand-new ‘Retrace’ tool lets you plot your return journey along the same route, perfect for out-and-back adventures. Find Routes, Your Way The Find Routes tab just got a makeover. Enjoy quick filters for speedy searching, a handy bottom sheet that shows routes right on the map, and new sorting options - by most popular, nearest to you, distance, or elevation. Finding your next route has never been easier (or more fun). Dropped Pins, Less Clutter We’ve tidied up the dropped pins menu so you can see more of the map and less of the menu. More view, less fuss. Share Your Search Found the perfect set of routes? You can now share a filtered route search view with friends, so everyone’s on the same page (and path). Maps on your wrist? Yes, please! You can now view our standard map on your watch and keep an eye on your activity recording while you’re out and about. We’re adding Points of Interest – starting with Transport and Accommodation categories to help you find what you need, right on the map. On the Routes tab, sharing just got smarter. Share your filtered view with others and filter by your saved routes for a more personalised experience. The Home tab gets a fresh new look with updated design and layout for a smoother experience. Creating routes is now even easier with an auto-download toggle, and when you bookmark, we’ll remind you to download so you’re always ready to go offline. Heads up: This will be our last release for iOS versions below 16. From the next update, iOS 16 will be the minimum requirement.

This release introduces a fix to address an issue with loading of routes.

Your private profile has arrived. It brings your reviews, shared routes and favourite photos together in one place that’s just for you. You can add a profile photo too, so it feels a bit more like home without sharing anything you don’t want to. We’ve also added a gradient value to the elevation chart. You can now scrub along the chart to see the elevation at any point on your route, making it easier to understand where the ups, downs and leg‑burners live. Distance from start to waypoints is now included as well, giving you clearer context as you move through a route. The minimum supported version is now iOS 16.

We’ve given your OS Maps app a fresh new look with a redesigned map selector, added a new Outdoors Map for Ireland, two new US Maps from the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service and made it easier to find the right route for your next adventure. Plus, we’ve squashed bugs and made things better behind the scenes. Update now and get exploring!

We’ve given our ‘Loop’ tool a major upgrade - now, when you’re planning a route, you can pick from up to two alternative paths with handy stats to help you choose the best way back. Found a spectacular trail that no one else has? Our new ‘Hidden Gems’ carousel surfaces high quality, lesser known routes right on your Home screen.
