1. 1/5This is the wrong way to do something.

   I worked for a global tech company starting in the 1990s. I was hoping to deal with professionals and knowledgeable people when I went to the developers and pointed out that they had a major flaw or a problem that needed immediate attention. Rarely did it get immediate attention, instead, we got the runaround, excuses, and resistance to fix it in a timely manner. To have a client issue warnings that the typical user would have no idea how to fix is bad enough, but to somewhat hide it is inexcusable. My philosophy is if you can detect an error, you, as the producer should provide a way to either fix it, or just state that it cannot be fixed so we can move on and use something that works. The worst part of dealing with problems of this nature is being kicked over to a user community forum . I have never seen anything as poor as trying to get people who might or might know what to do to contribute collectively to a confusing bunch of ideas none of which is identified as the authenticated and proper fix, not to mention playing guessing games as to what to search for in the forum to even begin to get any kind of answer. Some communities are great, but almost all of them have some grouchy person who just wants to cause trouble. I managed to get a response from the tech-support people, but once they realize that I didn't know how to deal with this issue because I wasn't using their part of the product, I was pushed over to the blind leading the blind.

2. 1/5Stick with version 1

   ***Update*** Version 3.4.1 is broken. My iPad displays a black screen and I can no longer use the app. ***/Update*** Second update this year that has cost me hours of down time. Using version 3.0.2 on a regular iPad is now a nightmare: All my OpenVPN profiles have been renamed in System Settings. I can no longer connect from the VPN tab. In the App, the line spacing only permits the display of 7 connections on a page (I have more than 30); why does there have to be a huge space between entries? Why waste another line by describing each one as OpenVPN profile? Why are they all in a random order? Why can't I change the order? The GUI is now an ergonomic nightmare of unusability. While the old GUI might have been dated, we don't have to revert to kindergarten colours and layout! The layout works ok-ish on an iPhone size device with maybe 4 choices, but even on the iPad mini, this is a disastrous retrograde step of barely navigable, wasted screen space. ***Update*** OK, I may have been a little harsh with 1* review, but I stand by it. I've managed to find a backup ipa file, and restored 1.2.9. There are so many ways that this upgrade could have been managed better: Since it's a free app, make a new “Version 3” app, offer a migration, explain the differences? Having looked at V3 again, before deleting this on my iPhone - it's only useful for displaying 2 configs! Happy to volunteer my time for UI testing, but there was nothing wrong with version 1. My reasons for sticking with v1, for now: Connect via the System VPN options Rename configs No 'nasty' names in System VPN options Cleaner interface on the App.

3. 1/5Version 3.4.2 has problems. (Edited. Problem fixed!)

   Version 3.4.2 will not allow me to connect to devices on my home network. Prior to Version 3.4.2, everything was working great and I have made no changes on my end. Currently, with Version 3.4.2, I am able to establish the VPN connection with my VPN server (TP-Link ER7206 Router), but cannot access any devices on my home network. I deleted and then recreated the VPN profile on the ER7206. I deleted/reinstalled the app on both of my iOS devices and re-imported my profile. Nothing works. Just to make sure it is not a problem with my server, I connected remotely to my server with a PC using the Windows OpenVPN app version 3.4.3. I was able to connect and reach all of the devices on my home network. As a side note, I have an iPad and iPhone that are both running version 3.4.2. Both devices worked perfect until the 3.4.2 upgrade and now neither device will connect with devices on my network. Both devices simultaneously stopped working immediately after the 3.4.2 upgrade. Edit: Was finally able to get this working by modifying the compression line in my profile. The original line was: comp-lzo no I modified it to: comp-lzo adaptive After making this modification, I re-imported the profile into both iOS devices. Immediately, I was able to connect with my VPN Server and reach all devices inside of my network.

4. 4/5Great but missing one key feature for me

   Set this up to remote back to my home network and as a way to encrypt data while I am away from home. Works super well, but the one feature I really miss from my previous paid service is the ability to mark certain networks as safe so that it doesn’t try to auto-connect. I want it to auto-connect when I am away, but not on my trusted network where my VPN is also hosted. A lesser gripe: It also took me a second to realize that, when importing the settings from a configuration file, I had open the file in Notepad on my computer first and manually change the IP listed to my DDNS URL instead, since this app won’t let me change it manually once the profile is imported for whatever reason. Otherwise, it’s been very responsive and stable. Overall, a solid app that I hope only keeps getting better with time.

5. 1/5Second Failed Update in a row

   I updated the app from 1.2.4 to 1.2.5 a while ago and I started having connection dropping issue. It will still shows the vpn icon, and even after checking the event log I do not see any disconnect event. Sometimes, it will tell me authentication failed, but when I hit connect again it gets connected without any issue. I updated to the recent version 1.2.6, hoping all issues will be sorted out, but still having same issues. When I was on 1.2.4 I had no issues at all except the seamless connection. Example: I am on wifi at someplace, then I leave it, get it in my car, drive, vpn re-established connection while on cellular, I arrive home, my phone gets on home wifi automatically, the vpn then re-establishe connection again. Anyone, would assume that vpn connection now is over wifi...but this is wrong, it re-established the connection to my cellular provider. I found about this accidentally. I have a shared family data plan. One month my data usage was 16gb, my average is like 1-2 gb. I had to check my data usage before and after work until I spotted the issue.
