  1. 4/5Great but with concerns

This is such a great idea and execution of the idea. I’m worried about two things though. First I’m concerned, that while it’s currently free (its own concern), that this may eventually transform into an expensive subscription. My personal hope is for a one-time payment. My second concern is that this doesn’t appear to be a private project but one backed by sizable investors - which makes me concerned about eventual ads and the security of my data. Hoping the team behind this service is weighing their choices carefully.

  2. 5/5Awesome with a few missing features

Really great work so far so kudos to the devs!! But would love it even more if these features were implemented: (1) A way to view trending topics like in the Bluesky app (2) Able to add additional login accounts (only lets you add one per) (3) ability to see the detailed bio when you view the following list for others. In the bluesky app, you can click on the someone’s following list and the list will show the users name, handle and their bio. Makes it easier to find new profiles based on your interests (4) Search is a little clunky and not as detailed as if you use the respective native apps, for instance, there’s no Top, Latest, Feeds like in Bluesky search. (5) Also is more of a nitpick but when you try to click on a profile from the search results list, you have to specifically click on their name in the row. Clicking on the leading edge on the profile picture doesn’t navigate you to their profile.

  3. 3/5Good but buggy

I was enthusiastic about Openvibe when I started using it, but there are a few major usability bugs that keep biting me. First, if you're behind in your feeds by several days, the app will regularly lose your place and scroll to the top when reloading. There's no way to quickly page back to where you were, so you have to scroll for a while to find your spot. (I suspect this has something to do with the app cache getting cleared, but your spot in the feed should not be tied to the cache in the first place.) Second, my Bluesky account sometimes gets broken without warning and I have to remove and re-add it. There are no errors when this happens: your posts just mysteriously stop loading. Third, when you tap into a post or link and then navigate back to the timeline, you sometimes get scrolled to the top and lose your spot. Please fix these issues! They are damaging an otherwise excellent app.

  4. 2/5UI train wreck

It has many UI issues, but I think the worst is the lack of control of videos (if you want to read the comments, accompanying a video post, the video is running — with sound — whether you like it or not) and the fact that clicking outside the input overlay while composing a reply/post basically discards everything. On iPad, share doesn’t do anything. Paywall pop-ups in the in-app browser (the I Paper’s is an example) will block everything, you have to interact with the pop-up, you cannot close the browser. The cross posting feature is useless – instead of just cross-posting the message (with a discrete link showing where it came from) it creates some gaudy mess of a post that nobody would put their name on. Seems to have a problem updating, if I haven’t used it for a few hours, I generally need fo force close it.

  5. 3/5Still extremely rough around the edges

This app does something that nobody else does (lets you use both Mastodon and Bluesky) but it’s just not ready yet. It has too many usability problems like not showing full landscape images or how many posts users have. It also has an odd design with that scrollable top bar, which deviates from the iOS design language and is very jarring. Worst of all, when I posted full size images to bluesky, the compression algorithm crunched them up and I had to delete. This is beta-level at best. But, I’m going to keep this installed for a few months in the hopes that it gets good enough to use as a daily driver. There is definitely a lot of work to do though. Three stars is charitable.

Introducing Crosspost & Share – Take Open Social Web Beyond Its Borders! With Openvibe 1.10, you can now seamlessly share content across and beyond the open social web: - Share Your Profile Set – Let others discover your set of accounts in one picture. - Post Outside Openvibe – Easily share your own posts anywhere. - Crosspost Any Post – Tap the repost icon, select "Crosspost," and instantly share posts to other networks or generate a custom image to share anywhere! This feature is a first of its kind—helping users spread interesting content beyond the open social web and encouraging more people to join. Plus, we’ve tackled pesky bugs: fixed reversed profile timelines, trending filters, and tablet layout issues. Bluesky users get proper character limits and NSFW label fixes, while Mastodon now correctly displays image URLs. With a rewritten backend and improved Threads token refresh, everything runs smoother than ever.
