   I’m gonna start by saying that the mobile version doesn’t have me as interested, I usually use the Apple notes app as it’s easy to create and find all of the notes and I can save on my email accounts to prevent loosing data, but I am actually considering a switch, because I can still save it in my iCloud. But the desktop web version of obsidian is so so so good. I use the computer so much and when I found this app I almost cried in happiness…you can customize it however you want with plugins, gives me so much freedom and as someone who always likes to change things up this is perfect. The way it’s organized by tabs it’s my most favorite feature, on google I always have like a thousand tabs open as I can’t deal with loosing where I was last at when working or studying, so I can switch so easy in between things and I love that. One thing that I seriously don’t like is that you have to pay for obsidian sync. I could have all of my computer notes in my phone as well, and if something happens to my computer I can keep my notes on my phone, but this is a feature I have to pay for and I just can’t buy more things at the moment. But I understand that everyone that goes into making an app has to earn money somehow so that’s fine. Overall great app definitely recommend, especially compared to all the other competitive apps out there, this is by far the best and good job to all its developers!!!

2. 5/5Best note taking and writing software

   Obsidian is simply put: sublime. Closest to the perfect note taking and writing software. The fact that this software is both iOS, MacOS, and Windows compatible is nothing short of a miracle, considering the huge amount of technical bells and whistles that this software comes with. For simple note taking, you just pop open the app and take notes. If you enjoy writing, you can write hundreds of thousands of words, and it’ll never slow down. And the desktop version allows you to do so much idea mapping, hotlinking between notes, and so much more. Admittedly, the learning curve for Obsidian is a bit steep. While the tutorial does exist, it is a little…hard to read. I haven’t personally gotten around to using most of the software functions. But the sheer accessibility and simplicity of it, in its basic usage, is truly remarkable. Best of all, all of this is free. I have no idea how this software is free, but it is truly a marvel among free softwares, with no ads or anything else.

   All I want is a text-only note-taking app that is entirely offline, no tracking, quick to open, and the text or markdown files (if be happy with text) can be easily exported in one go (perhaps zipped, if there are multiple files) to my Linux OS via KDE Connect or a cable. What I like about Obsidian is the exportability, how easy it is to make and title a new file, and that no data is claimed to be collected. What I really don't like is waiting seconds (seconds! How spoiled I am :) for the app to open, and that the full-text search option is buried. I don't use any other features except for a mutual link between my tbr library list and my already-borrowed list, to move entries from the former to the latter, and I can live without that. I appreciate that you made and shared this work, hence the three stars, but it falls short of the truly performant and simple app I'm looking for, so now I'm questioning my rating at all- what use is it if I want something different but for users who want exactly what Obsidian is it's perfect? Revised to four stars, for grade-inflation.

4. 5/5Solid performance, fast, flexible, and easy to use

   I’ve used Obsidian desktop since December and the mobile app for a couple of months. The longer I use it, the less and less I open other apps. Creating a new note is fast and editing your standard Markdown is fast and easy, enough that I never use the Markdown shortcuts bar. I use Obsidian for three types of notes. First, I use it for daily notes, much like a digital bullet journal. Second, for project notes and references, and finally for my personal second brain/zettelkasten, and I work on all three types of notes in the same vault without any confusion. Couple of caveats: 1. WYSIWYG not available yet, so you write in Markdown. You can flip from edit to preview mode to see “pretty” text, but I just look at Markdown all day. I’m ok with that, but it might drive you nuts. 2. App and desktop/mobile synch are free, but I pay a monthly fee for Obsidian’s synch rather than muss about with settings to manage synch myself. Plus it’s encrypted end-to-end. 3. Finally, I think it would be easier if you *started* on desktop and then *also* worked on your phone. I think desktop makes it easier to really get into and figure out the workflow and organization system that works for you. Whatever you choose, I definitely recommend you commit and use Obsidian for a couple of weeks to really try it out. It’s so flexible, you need some time kick all the tires and see which ones you like.

   Have been using Obisidan in beta for the past year and in the mobile beta since its inception. The combination is incredible and the Obsidian developers provide huge value for free across multiple platforms. Free full functionality in a data format that guarantees you can never lose access to your work. Support for the developers is only through their publish and sync services, neither is required to use all the functions of the product. It has spoiled me for any other note app. Best functionality is for knowledge management and longer form writing, for both of those it is a distinct pleasure to use. Lot’s of available community add-ons provide a wide variety of options for task management, calendar integration, kanban, data analysis and much more. In my opinion those are higher friction and I’d prefer other tools but if you are a bit technical and like tweaking on your own you will find those useful as well - beware that community plugins can be more hit or miss in the mobile version. With all that - this is THE most valuable tool in the entire Apple ecosystem for my day-to-day work.

   Works very well most of the time, but on two separate occasions I've had months worth of notes in a file just completely disappear. The file was still there, and the name hadn't changed, but all of the text inside was completely gone for no reason and with no warning.

   I do love this app. it has a lot of features that are good for what I need it for such as A nice way of organizing notes into different files and naming them, different options to change how the text looks built into how you interact with the typing, and it is free. Most of the issues are just wishing there was a little more as far as options go such as having more than one highlighter color. However my biggest issue is that you aren't able to transfer from one device to the next without paying.
