  1. 5/5Keep it up!

Awesome!!! Great news ingestion. Used the human filter (could make it part of onboarding). (btw saw article restart b/c I triggered third-party app dictation while it was reading.) Read along is really neat. Would help to see full article in a frame with the original formatting and any assets. Thank you! — Day two of trying the app, updating my review. Listening to humans read the MIT review and Bloomberg, etc. is essentially perfect. If I could see the whole article, kind of like Microsoft Edge Immersive Reader, then the app would be also perfect when I'm sitting down and want to read along. I know this is a big ask because even the native iOS functionality is buggy, and Edge is far from perfect too (also privacy leak to MS). Publishers, I hope you would appreciate us being able to see the article like it was meant to be seen! Some of the narrators you could listen to for hours for sure. PS: is my data ever used for anything besides delivering the service?

  2. 3/5Decent idea, needs tweaks

I loved this app when I first discovered it, however after some brief time using it, I have lots of feedback on how it could be improved. If these issues could be resolved, I would love this app and use it all the time: 1) Queue issues: when I try to resume listening to a series after stopping mid-way, I cannot resume listening to the series again. I have to manually select each individual article and intro/conclusion. Otherwise the audio automatically stays to an unrelated article I never queued. This is a repeated issue. 2) Annoying “ding” sound at the start of each article: I listen to articles both informationally, as well as to fall asleep. After just 2 weeks of listening, I grew very annoyed with the intro sound for each article. It disrupted the rhythmic narrator when I was falling asleep, and it was just irritating when I was listening to multiple articles in a row. If it only ding when I first open the app, that would be fine. However as it is, it’s way too often.

  3. 4/5Great up with some technical difficulties

Overall this is a great app. It’s easy to navigate, the selection of publications is wonderful, and the readers have easy-to-understand but interesting voices. The main issue comes down to technical challenges. There are often data streaming issues and some days I can’t get anything to load. Currently I’m listening to something from a publication page, but not all publications are available right now and neither is the for you section, which claims I’m offline even though I’m streaming Bloomberg and I can use other apps… These issues are pretty frequent and I’ve noticed them several times a week. It seems like it’s a relatively young company though so hopefully it’s just part of their growing pains and they’ll be able to scale out they’re streaming capabilities soon.

  4. 4/5Excellent, but not yet perfect

The “long-form journalism to audio” space is becoming increasingly crowded, and for good reason: it’s a service that many of us didn’t realize we wanted until we tried it! And now, after having spent a while comparing the three major competitors in the space that I could find—Noa, Curio, and Audm—I can say that Noa’s offering is the best of the bunch. Their customer service is incredibly responsive, too. It’s not a perfect app or service, as there are still several bugs and issues for them to work out, but overall, Noa is definitely one of my favorite finds of the past year or so.

  5. 4/5GREAT IDEA, But Execution needs work

There is a lot of low hanging fruit that can be improved pretty quickly. This is the app/service have been waiting/looking for since 2015. I love that it exists, but they need to get their high speed playback a bit better at being intelligible at higher speeds. Seems like it’s also hard to have content you want from specific publishers organized automatically. App doesn’t respond well to the play/pause button on my headphones (plays, but won’t pause). It seems hard to resume an article where you left off. I think there’s a way to do it, but it’s not as straightforward as it ought to be. I worry some of the organizational issues are by design, as a way of trying to foster certain behavior from users. I hope this is not the case. Maybe there is a different explanation, but as of now it seems like this app was not designed super users like me, ie, the people most likely to use and pay for it.
