   I’ve been using this app for a few months now and it has been easy and affordable. I use it to pay my house/dog sitter when I need to be away all day. The only complaint I have is the pay option through Nest. I tried it once and it took a week for my employee to get her pay deposited in her account. Not sure how my employer gets my time on Thursday and deposits my pay the next day. Maybe they pay a lot more for a service. I switched to a work around by transferring the net pay to my employee from my checking account as we use the same Credit Union. It’s easy. Just process the payroll through nest and nest gives you the net amount to transfer. I make a note in the transfer of “Payroll”. Every quarter the taxes are pulled out for the employee and employer portions, so make sure your setting that money aside so you don’t get a surprise. Nest set up my state federal tax for me, I didn’t have to do a thing.

   I am really impressed with this app. As a CPA, I have manually handled payroll, and Nest does all the compliance work including tax filings and tax payments in a fraction of the time - with no mistakes. I found the link to Venmo once the paycheck is approved especially helpful. (Very nice integration!) My employer (nanny) really appreciated receiving her paystubs and W-2s electronically. Both times I’ve reached out to support, I received a response within 1-4 hours. I’ve never had any issues using the app, just specific payroll questions (didn’t want to duplicate what Nest does). I highly recommend this app for household employee payroll!

3. 2/5Not ALL 50 states.

   They advertised themselves as covering my state on their website. But once I signed up I found out that they do not cover employee withholding for state taxes in my state. They were very nice and the customer service was responsive. They told me that household employees in my state don’t legally need the employer to do withholding, so the don’t cover it. They suggested my employee do estimated tax payments and even volunteered to walk her through it. However I was able to find another payroll agency that would do the state withholding, so canceled with Nest and went with the other company. Good/responsive customer service, but they clearly don’t offer quite as much service as the bigger agencies, and they didn’t voluntarily advertise that they don’t fully cover my state.

   To begin, this review was not solicited by the app makers. This is my honest review. When I became a mom on New Year’s Eve 2018, I was not prepared for the many challenges that lied ahead with my newborn. With no family nearby to help, I found a young person from my church to nanny for me. I heard that I would have to pay nanny taxes and figured that it would be something relatively simple to do. It wasn’t until my nanny needed a W-2 to do her 2019 taxes that I started looking into how to do this “nanny tax” thing and discovered that this process was anything but simple. I should have known better since we are talking about the government. Anyways, I quickly realized that even though I had kept meticulous records of the hours that she worked and how much I paid her, the amount of paperwork that was needed and the interpretation of said paperwork would demand time from me that I didn’t have. So I started the search for a payroll company to help me. I came across many options that wanted to charge me fees like I was running a business that was generating actual revenues. I’m just a mom working full-time and paying someone out of my personal salary, I can’t afford the high fees that they were seeking. Somehow, I came across NestPayroll in the App Store and I’m glad I did. At the time they were not supporting the state of Florida yet. But I took a gamble and emailed them to find out when they will be up and running in Florida. To my delight and relief, they were getting ready to launch in my state that week. I had email contact with them multiple times that week and they were willing to answer all my questions and help me get set up. I now do payroll for my two nannies without any complications and can send them professional looking paystubs. I am so grateful that I came across this app.

5. 5/5Nest is the best!

   After trying two other payroll services, and doing it on our own, I can confidently say Nest has the most amazing service! My husband and I are both educated, but found we were spending way too much of our free time figuring out paperwork…and new paperwork after a move. From working parent-friendly customer support hours, to a user-friendly app designed with a modern parent in mind, we have loved it! They have great email support, and the ability to fix some previous filings (or lack thereof). You can pay using Venmo, and view everything with the tap of a finger on your phone!
