1. 1/5Absolute Incompetence

   I really hope you didn't pay someone to make this app, because that would have been an absolute waste of my taxpayer dollars. This app sends the user on an endless login loop, triggering 2FA, then sending the user back to the login page, claiming incorrect password, which is clearly false since 2FA was triggered. If you can't even log into the app, it's basically like you don't have an app, it's worthless garbage taking up storage space. And then same problem happens when trying to log into the website. I've now tried to help two different users log in and had the same issue. Seriously, you could hire a 25-yr-old vibecoder with a couple of AI agents to build you a better system overnight. Of you want people to buy fishing licenses, fix this! Because at this point, I'm going fishing with or without the license, and if a game warden stops me, I'm going to hand them my phone and just say, "Here, if you can do it, I'll pay the fine and the license fee."

2. 4/5Easy to use…once you can get in

   I can validate all of the complaints here that it’s a little annoying to get an account set up/logged into for the first time. You have to make sure your WILD account is set up and verified via the standard web browser first. This is the same system you’d log into to order a license or report crab catch online, so it’s not new. But they seem to want you to log into there and verify your information is correct. Once you do that, it wasn’t hard to get into the app. Honestly, it’s no harder than any of the millions other account log ins we all have to deal with nowadays—banking, cell phone, email, etc. I found the app itself very easy to use, and this will be easier than carrying that huge crumple of plastic paper licenses and catch cards in my wallet. So no more George Costanza wallet.

3. 1/5App broken, no support, can’t access license.

   I’d give this app zero stars if I could. The WDFW app gets stuck in an endless login loop and won’t actually let me sign in. Because of that, I can’t even access my fishing license which I chose as a mobile license. So now I’m stuck having paid for something I can’t even use. It’s incredibly frustrating that an app this critical is so unreliable. This isn’t a convenience feature it’s the only way some of us can show proof of licensing in the field. To make matters worse, I’ve tried reaching out for help and haven’t gotten any response, no answer by phone and no reply to emails. So there’s effectively no support when something goes wrong. What makes it worse is knowing how much money this agency brings in. WDFW pulls in roughly $59 million per year from recreational licenses and about $6.6 million from commercial licenses, with total license related revenue in the tens of millions annually. On top of that, hunting and fishing licenses alone generate around $50+ million per year, with even more coming in through related fees and taxes. With that kind of revenue, there’s really no excuse for an app that doesn’t even handle basic login functionality, especially when people are relying on it to legally fish or hunt. Fix the app. This is unacceptable.

4. 1/5Poorly designed, poorly executed.

   While you select your current year license type (paper in my case) and idiotic to ask since mobile hasn’t existed until now. I didn’t get a mobile type. Though I selected a mobile license type for this year, it didn’t sell me one rather a non water resistant, self printed- bulky license for which they still charge a dealer fee. While purchasing the word wrap is messy and present type radio buttons on different lines than text. 99% will use from a mobile phone versus a tablet. I doubt I’ll get the actual documentation via mail as in three instances I’ve purchased a Discover Pass directly from the State which never did show up. Also, it must be technically out of reach for the State to change to a mobile type after purchase of paper type as that feature is not offered.

5. 1/5Horrible app, fails to log in correctly

   After completing two-step verification, the app completely fails to log in. I cannot access or use it at all, making the entire application worthless. This is especially concerning for a service built around digital tags. If the official app won’t work even under optimal conditions, how can anyone be expected to trust the system? As taxpayers, we spend millions of dollars on this, yet all we receive is a low-quality web app poorly wrapped in an even worse native container. A secure, fully native app could realistically be built in a single week using modern AI coding tools. Instead, it appears public money is being wasted on overpaid developers delivering substandard work. Fix this immediately.
