1. 5/5I don’t have to finally go to a website!!!

   I was a AOTY and RYM user not long ago and I’ve always dreamed of finding an app related to those websites but in an app store. AOTY was cool but I don’t really like much of the people there sometimes. RYM is also pretty cool but I just find it pretty difficult using it on mobile. Its easy on PC, but I rarely use my PC. I was definitely intrigued downloading this app and I think its a very cool app! I just don’t like that some discographies when clicking an artist’s page are pretty messy or have unnecessary duplicates. Other than that, the community is honestly pretty nice! I never expected an app to have good reviews of Meghan Trainor and Jennifer Lopez! I love that everyone has their own opinion here and not just following the hate train! They’re just plain honest and mot afraid to voice that and it makes me feel comfortable to rate things!

2. 4/5Amazing app that doesn’t get enough attention

   I love this app in so many ways. It truly functions however you want to review music, or even if you have other things you want to do with the app, there’s something for most every type of listener. I personally use the app to log my listened albums, which also saves the dates you listen to albums, and I also use the app for keeping a list of the albums I want to listen to next. The listen later tab is fantastic for this and it’s a better way to keep up with what you want to listen to next than anything I’ve found. There’s even a nice randomizer button so the app picks for you if you can’t decide. I like how you can write reviews about music, but I don’t like the fact that everything has a star rating attached to it. I know for a lot of people that’s the point of the app, and I understand why everyone is obsessed with rating things, but for me personally I don’t like to reduce art to a number as its identity. It’s so much more than that. So id remove the star rating system and make it strictly written reviews. I love the app as like a journal and a board for your personal music journey, both past and future, and it coexists beautifully with airbuds, which is more about the present music moment, and is more social. I think those two apps pair very well. I can’t give this app five stars though because of one very significant issue. This app is down all the time. There is constantly cloud server issues that sometimes make it so you can’t open the app, and all your data is completely inaccessible, which is to say, for an indefinite period of time, lost. That’s a huge issue, but when the app is up and working, it’s one of my favorite apps.

   Essentially letterboxd for albums and songs. It had some bugs at first, but the developers caught on and made the necessary improvements. I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel there’s still room to grow, both within the app as a community of listeners, and in terms of general user friendliness. If I could change one thing it’d be to improve on the organization of user’s profiles. There’s no way to search for a specific artist or item by name when you’re browsing through an individual user’s feed. I’d love it if users could have their ratings/reviews organized by say, a drop-down menu where you could see all the user’s artists and go right along to those submissions. I think the same feature could also be used to sort by year of release or to locate applicable genres/subgenres, although the genres don’t get specific here on the album profiles and in many cases it seems like the release dates aren’t right. It’s a good app, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a medium to contribute to the discussion of music/hear the takes of others. For a relatively new app there’s already a large and quickly growing community, and the more people join this virtual discussion of music, the more other music lovers out there have to gain from each other.

4. 3/5A word of warning…

   This app is just letterbox for music. It functions almost identically and is, like letterbox, a great way to see what’s what. I recommend it to anyone who is trying to discover new music or has some interesting takes on music, but I personally did not enjoy this app. Music is different from a film and much more subjective, so much of the opinions represented are about people’s personal take on pieces of music rather than a criticism of what the artists actually made. This is fine for enjoying or disliking music, but makes much of the reviews you’ll read feel “one note” and I found myself bored of the app after the first few reviews I made. It’s just not as enjoyable as letterbox and it feels like copying elements of that format work against the app. Also, many of the people on this app are a little all consumed with their tastes; their music taste is their personality which left me feeling empty. There are good critics and interesting takes on music, but most are pretty trite with little to add. I also have no ideas on how the app could be improved from its current point, other than formatting it completely differently.

5. 3/5Good app, a couple issues.

   I use this app to keep track of albums, songs, and artists that I have critically listened to, thought about and (possibly) reviewed more than just 1-5 stars. But I do think that the search function being updated will help improve the experience for everyone. A lot of people who are using this app most likely aren’t going to be misspelling or messing up the name of what they’re looking for. With that in mind I think you could improve the search function by prioritizing matching over popularity… the amount of times that i have to open the “view all albums…” to find what I’m looking for because 5-8 completely unrelated items came up first is absolutely infuriating. And not being able to search within someones account is very annoying. Lastly, clicking on the “Ratings” tab pulls up a users history rather than a list of their ratings. Make it almost identical to the “Reviews” tab and it will be great. Update: I have now run into album(s) that just don’t show up when sorting by albums.
