  1. 5/5If you liked Quicken

This is as if not better than the newer versions of quicken for personal and business and you don’t have to subscribe to an online plan. This app integrates with my other devices so like now I’m using their mobile app and it will update on my computer too. Easy to use, easy to view very straight forward. I can generate reports based off my register it’s has more stuff than I use and I use a lot of. Like the scheduling you can link to its credit account and then post to your checking account too. It’s always accurate and dependable. I do wish it wasn’t so sensitive or fast I can’t see where to adjust it.

  2. 2/5Previously Worked as Described - Not Now

Review Up-Date: Previously I rated this app a “5”, but not anymore. Not sure exactly what or why someone made changes to the sync function, but the changes need to be reversed and put back to the way it previously was. During the past month to 6 weeks, the app (both iPhone and iPad) has started locking up while entering transactions; failing to sync, or taking a long time to sync; and now opens to the first account in the list instead of the last account used. I am still using the same sync method as I have used for the past 10+ years (Dropbox), and never had issues like I am currently experiencing. The entire purpose of the mobile app is to be able to enter transactions on the go, and then have the transactions appear in both the desktop and other mobile device(s). Please figure out the problem(s) and fix it/them. This from a fully paid user. Thanks!!! (Previous Review) I have used the desktop version of Moneydance for a number of years. The iPhone App works just as described with no problems. IF you set up the sync as instructed, the sync works every time. I set it up to work with an iPhone and iPad, and both have worked as expected. No issues. Yes, the App does close after sync'ing, which it is designed to do because you already have the Moneydance Desktop version open - which is required in order to sync. I have used the App now for three (+) weeks and have not had a single issue with entering purchases or payments. One improvement I would like (which has nothing to do with the working of the App as currently designed), is the ability to use "Tags" when entering data. I have filed a support ticket requested this function be added to future versions.

  3. 2/5Not mature product

I’m evaluating moneydance on a 2015 Mac laptop. I’m looking for a budget and finance management application that 1) pulls data from financial sites, 2) saves said data on a storage platform I can control (local disk, iCloud, Dropbox work, prefer a user configurable sftp server url or object storage api), 3) does not provide my data to any companies (no cloud saas platform please), is low cost or justifiable, 4) has automated functionality for tying transaction records from one synced account with another without requiring me to share my data with a hosted AI, and 5) generally gives me an overview of everything without breaking. I’ve never used quicken. Mint used to break on me all the time. I haven’t used a check register in 20 years. I need support for 30 bank accounts and 20 credit cards, maybe investment (not necessary), a fast way to mark transactions to a specific budget automatically and/or learned. Moneydance on laptop seems to hit some of the basics. Moneydance on iPhone appears to be lacking 90% of the basics and it’s not a brand new thing. At their current rate of development I’d say it might be usable by 2030.

  4. 5/5Best bill spreadsheet I have used

The $50 i paid for the app has saved me so much money! I was able to build a bill calendar on my PC app that gives me a month view of when bills are due and when paydays are. Me and my wife have the phone app and it makes doing the checkbook a breeze! We used to have 5 or 6 overdraft fees a month because we didnt do a checkbook. I havent had an overdraft fee in 3 years and am way ahead on my bills now. Thanks Moneydance, this app has saved me thousands of dollars in fees and I no longer stress out about my finances!

  5. 4/5Best I could find

I’ve tried / used several personal finance apps over the years. I’ve been using Moneydance for probably 10+ years now because it works on iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux and does an OK job of syncing between all of them (have used Dropbox sync and iCloud sync). It’s very reasonably priced and works alright. The mobile app doesn’t support some things which I have to do on the desktop version and I’ve never been able to get the desktop version to automatically download transactions from my bank… those are my only major complaints (sure, the UI could use some polish for small usability improvements but nothing major).
