  1. 5/5Still a must have app!

Do you have that one app that you literally can’t do without, the one that keeps you from migrating from apple. This is that App for me. Its purpose is plain and simple take a set of rules from the user and apply them to a vast music collection and make a “smart” playlist that easily updates depending on how it’s set up. I use it to easily switch up songs from my own collection of several thousand tracks, but where it gets really interesting to me is in the time since I first picked up the app the developer has added a function so you can tell it to combine playlists from the apple community that other people are updating. So In essence I have created several genre playlists that automatically add new music from other users, and knows my favorites mixes them together and then keeps the individual tracks from repeating within 4 weeks to 6 months depending on my personal preferences… I used to create playlists by hand and the time I’ve saved with this app is a true life saver!

  2. 5/5Excellent App, Just What I Was Looking For

I have been looking to create dynamic/smart playlists on iOS for years. After tons of fighting with synching between macOS Music/iCloud Music/iOS, I finally found Miximum. It was everything I wanted. The rules engine is fantastic, and allows for complex playlist to be created very easily. My only suggestion would be to add a rule that allows you to set the total count for an Artist. For example, I have one playlist (Metallica) that feeds into a larger playlist. Because the Metallica playlist has so many more songs, I would like to limit the number of songs from them in the new playlist. There might be a way to do this by combining different rules, but I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. That small suggestion aside, this is the best $1.99 I have spent on the App Store in years. Well worth it.

  3. 4/5Helpful, but shuffle doesn’t work for large libraries

My main reason for getting this app was to consolidate music “in my library” with music “not in my library” (since my experience with the Apple Music app has been buggy and incomplete). First I tried just selecting “All Music” which (after a few minutes of waiting) generated a playlist of 110,000 songs, which means that part worked! Sadly when I hit the shuffle button, it simply failed to play. I assume this is a bug in Apple Music, not in the app. I was able to use the smart filters to create a 1000 song randomized playlist, though, which means I have a way around it at least by creating a new randomized playlist each session/day. If it was possible to handle this automatically somehow (only open the maximum allowable playlist size in Apple a music when clicking the shuffle button), that would be an improvement, but I assume it isn’t that simple. Thanks for creating a great app! I look forward to seeing what’s in store for the future.

  4. 4/5Held back by some system limitations

UPDATED: With further testing I’ve learned more about when the ‘last played’ data fails to update. When I use a single set of headphones, or the built-in device speaker, or a single airplay speaker, everything works as expected. Hooray! But when I use two airplay speakers together, which is my normal household setup, the last-played dates never seem to update. That sounds like a problem with Apple’s systems, and not this app. ORIGINAL: I’m disappointed. I used this app to create a “Recently Played” playlist, based on the rule: “Last played within the last six months.” The playlist included exactly the songs I expected it to. Then I used the Apple Music app to play an album I hadn’t played in a year. Minutes or days later, those songs are still missing from the Miximum playlist. The app is much less useful to me if the playlists don’t update automatically. And the app description suggests that they should. It’s disappointing.

  5. 5/5Works well with a clean, consistent design

I’m honestly surprised how great this app is. The UI is decluttered and consistent with Apple Music’s. It’s snappy and fits right into the ecosystem. The customization it gives you for playlists is unlike any other app I’ve found. There is definitely room for improvement (re-ordering rules, duplicating groups, etc) but this app is one of the main reasons I’m sticking with Apple Music instead of switching to Tidal, for example. It was so tedious manually adding songs to the several playlists they belong to, now all I have to do is add a song to my library and it’s automatically sorted into the correct mixes. As mentioned, it is definitely not without its flaws, but it’s for sure the best for what I’m looking for, as far as I’m aware. Definitely worth the couple bucks.

  • 1.5.10

Fixes the display bug plaguing many iPad users.

  • 1.5.11

I've seen comments that folks are having issues with mixes "just being blank". And I think this is due to an issue affecting mix refreshing when creating/editing parameters and rules. Mixes now refresh every time that pane is dismissed, so you should see all those wonderful songs every time! Miximum is currently 65% OFF, so now is a great time to share with your friends, families and followers! All support is deeply appreciated. Thank you. And finally, I have made a career change and I think it will finally allow me some overhead to put more effort into developing new features :)

  • 1.5.12

Today's update improves and expands upon sorting functionality when viewing collections (albums, artists, etc.) within a mix or playlist.

  • 1.5.13

This update includes minor iPad UI improvements, including fixes for issues in Split View.

  • 1.5.14

Fixed bug with the initial state of the star rating filter.

  • 1.5.15

This update future-proofs some display code that doesn't appear to be causing issues in Miximum, but has caused crashes in PlayTally.

  • 1.5.4

New rules: • Include songs that are part of your library. • Include songs that are NOT part of your library.

  • 1.5.5

This update includes expanded contextual menus for collections (Play Next and Play Later have been added to the play and shuffle controls) and a new menu for individual songs with some handy new functionality :)

  • 1.5.6

    • Song duration parameter now supports minutes and seconds. Finally!! • Miximum has always used the Crashlytics platform (originally Fabric/Twitter, then Firebase/Google) to identify the sources of crashes and stability issues. Version 1.5.6 drops this support in favour of the built-in iOS crash support which now provides most of the original benefits. This change has NOT been made because of any security or privacy issues or concerns, but it is nice to remove another potential now-mostly-redundant source of failure. You won't notice any changes. But I will; please consider enabling "Share with App Developers" in your Analytics & Improvements settings!

  • 1.5.7

    • New Rule: Lossless Music Only! Whoooo! • No, I don't know how to filter for Spatial Audio yet.

  • 1.5.8

    • Fixes a bug where certain rules were not working correctly in their default (newly created) state. The fix applies to rules created moving forward, but will not effect existing ones. If you have any rules that do not seem to be working correctly, specifically re-setting the predicate type (is, is not, etc.) should correct the issue.

  • 1.5.9

Sorry everyone, it's been difficult to get out updates recently. This is a pretty routine maintenance update that resolves a few iOS 15-specific issues. Most importantly the annoying swipe-to-dismiss rules bug!

  • 1.6

PIN YOUR FAVORITES Create convenient shortcuts by pinning your favorite mixes and playlists to the top of the Library view.

  • 1.6.1

Minor updates to search threading, but more to come! If you are enjoying Miximum, please consider leaving a 5-star review on the App Store! They really help new users make the decision to give the app a try :)

  • 1.6.2

This update will hopefully address the infrequent and intermittent issue causing mixes to export as empty playlists.

  • 1.6.3

    • Fixed conflict between "ordered rules" (i.e. least played, most played, most recently played) and randomize. Reminder: if all you want to do is mix up the order, there is a random sort preference for that! • Added optional explicit and cloud-content indicators for songs. These can be enabled from the Settings pane.

  • 1.6.4

This update *actually* includes fixes for playlist generation. If you are still getting blank playlists after this, please let me know at [email protected]. And if you're just generally happy with Miximum, let me know that too, in a review!

  • 1.6.5

    Crash log fixes.

  • 2.0.0

MAJOR UPDATE! For years now, my three apps (Cs Pro, PlayTally and Miximum) have existed in silos, while also possessing large amounts of "shared DNA." Frequently this is literally copy-and-pasted code. In other cases things are very similar, but with slight variations, and some things work slightly better in one app than the others. So I've been working for a few months now on developing a single shared framework that all three apps can rely on for shared elements – drawing on the best executions from each, while streamlining along the way. Miximum 2 will be the first update to implement the framework. And it's here! WHAT'S NEW: - Totally rebuilt UI. Built using the most modern methods, and even more native elements than before. Snappy, reliable and buttery smooth :) - The old "Pinning" system has been replaced with the iOS Music.app "Favoriting" system. Behaviour is the same, just replace you pins by "Favoriting" those playlists. Pinned mixes will be favorited automatically. - New Now Playing manager has been optimized to reduce system player calls (and related issues, the #1 cause of Miximum crashes). - New standardized sort menu options and preferences. Some preferences have changed, and may appear to "reset". Apologies for any inconvenience. - Cascading groupings: you can now navigate to drill down into artists, albums, etc. - Improved Edit Mix pane that should be a lot more straightforward for new users to understand. Thanks, as always, for all the support :) I hope you enjoy the new update! If so, please consider leaving a rating or review for future users!
