   What I am looking for is a playlist maker that can learn my moody-ass nature over time like an empath and always deliver the right tracks at the right time. Maybe that’s a bit lofty of a goal. But I don’t think it’s entirely impossible. It’s a design challenge. What this app delivers is essentially a way to put logic conditions on your shuffle, of which there are an impressive number of options. That is very useful and is a significant improvement upon your standard shuffle. I’ve been able to use it to significantly cut down on track skipping by having it retire songs I skip for an extended period of time. I don’t know if another app that does it better. I do think however that this is a concept that can be improved upon. Sure we’re working with computers here. But computer-like decision-making is not exactly what people want out of their playlists is it? I don’t always want rules to be hard rules. Sometimes I want to be able to soften them into guidelines. An easy way to do that would be to add a ‘how often’ tag to the end of the existing rulesets. ‘How often’ could be populated with varying settings such as always, interval, and a number of oscillating waveforms like sin, triangle, sawtooth, etc. I also want to be able to organize my music based on mood. I can think of some very sloppy hacky ways I could maybe do it myself without additional updates to the software, like perhaps hijacking the genre metadata or something. But what I imagine a developer could do is create an on-the-go feedback system, where you are listening to a song and you have a color wheel that you can associate a color to the feel of the music’s timbral makeup, as well as perhaps a scrolling list of emojis that you can pick from assign to it a mood. These proposed features could combine powerfully with the existing rule-based framework to create mood texture playlists that ebb and flow with sensitivity and grace.

2. 5/5ALMOST what I need

   There is a confirmed problem with Alexa and Apple Music, where the shuffle function simply does not work on large lists. This app has the potential to fix my issue once and for all, but needs a couple of tweaks to be perfect, and could be shared as answers on the many thousand thread responses of frustrated Alexa/Apple users. Right now this fixes my issue in a clunky way, in that I can open the app on a regular basis, open my mix, select random for sort again and saved it to a playlist that my Alexa routine calls. This works only AFTER deleting the existing playlist. What the hordes of frustrated Alexa users out there would love to see is a single button or right click to automate the shuffling and OVERWRITE the playlist of the same name in Apple Music. Bonus points for integrating with iOS Automator app to do it in one click! Great work! If you make these changes, I promise to spend some time promoting it for you in the many threads I talked about. That would make it worth much more than $2.99.

3. 4/5Held back by some system limitations

   UPDATED: With further testing I’ve learned more about when the ‘last played’ data fails to update. When I use a single set of headphones, or the built-in device speaker, or a single airplay speaker, everything works as expected. Hooray! But when I use two airplay speakers together, which is my normal household setup, the last-played dates never seem to update. That sounds like a problem with Apple’s systems, and not this app. ORIGINAL: I’m disappointed. I used this app to create a “Recently Played” playlist, based on the rule: “Last played within the last six months.” The playlist included exactly the songs I expected it to. Then I used the Apple Music app to play an album I hadn’t played in a year. Minutes or days later, those songs are still missing from the Miximum playlist. The app is much less useful to me if the playlists don’t update automatically. And the app description suggests that they should. It’s disappointing.

4. 3/5Started out great… but no longer works at all!

   I first got this app because I wanted a way to make smart playlists on my phone, since I had to use a computer otherwise. It started out brilliantly, just a few minor bugs that were easy to look past. I made tons of playlists and enjoyed creating them all. But now, after a while of having the app- I can no longer make playlists. No matter what I attempt to do, no songs show up in the playlists I’ve been trying to create- they just come out blank. I’ve tried to make multiple playlists in the span of about 2 months, but no matter when or how I try… it just doesn’t work. I’d love for this to be fixed so I can get back to making playlists and create some that I’ve been meaning to make for a while!! Otherwise, without this issue, the app would be pretty close to perfect. A good 4.5 stars.

5. 5/5Works well with a clean, consistent design

   I’m honestly surprised how great this app is. The UI is decluttered and consistent with Apple Music’s. It’s snappy and fits right into the ecosystem. The customization it gives you for playlists is unlike any other app I’ve found. There is definitely room for improvement (re-ordering rules, duplicating groups, etc) but this app is one of the main reasons I’m sticking with Apple Music instead of switching to Tidal, for example. It was so tedious manually adding songs to the several playlists they belong to, now all I have to do is add a song to my library and it’s automatically sorted into the correct mixes. As mentioned, it is definitely not without its flaws, but it’s for sure the best for what I’m looking for, as far as I’m aware. Definitely worth the couple bucks.
