3/5Continued Bugginess Holds Mimir Back
I really like the layout and design of the Mimir app. Unfortunately it continues to have bugs that make it a less-than-ideal experience. For example, when opening the app in CarPlay, the “Now Playing “ app often won’t play; a work-around that sometimes works is to manually play the next podcast episode, than go back. Another example: when managing podcast episodes (especially if you’re managing several at a time), the player interface may freeze momentarily or not reflect your changes. This often necessitates restarting Mimir. All of the little quirks together add up to an often frustrating experience. Finally, I like the recent swipe interface changes to play next/last, and Mark as played/remove from playlist. That said, I’d like to see that expanded to the Now Playing/Next screen instead of only being accessible within each individual podcast.

4/5a very small feature idea
Coming from old iTunes-based podcast listening. I use a non-Apple mp3 player (I don't carry a phone, long story). Since Apple's Podcast app is so over-simplified and user-hostile, and its display of information is so graphic based (I prefer dense text), I gravitated quickly to Mimir. I've only used it three times, but so far so gool Suggestion: I'd like to restrict the display of recent episodes of each podcast, to say, the ten most recent. This lets me focus on relevant items, yet still maintains high density of information. Thanks for the app! I'm considering upgrading to Pro, but want to use it a while longer.

5/5Impressive and Feature Rich Desktop Podcast App
Disclaimer, I am not a podcast listener on my iPhone, but rely on my Mac to transfer podcasts to a clunky USB memory stick I play in a very old car radio. Tired of the routine, I was looking for a new robust MacOS Desktop App that would make my “drag and drop” ritual a bit easier. Thus, I visited Mr. Google and came across Mimir. I had never heard of it and was reluctant to try an untested third-party app. However, it WAS on the Mac App Store and the few ratings looked decent. The free trial helped and I pulled the trigger. 24 hours later I could not believe I had lived so long without Mimir. It provided solutions to problems I didn’t even know I had. Mimir is everything I could ever want in a DESKTOP podcast app. I can download podcasts willy-nilly, find the ORIGINAL files on my computer, choose where my podcasts are saved (I like to save straight to my iCloud drive), create intricate playlists with auto-queuing set by MY priority levels, select a bunch of podcasts at once and mark them played/unplayed/download/delete etc.. The recommendations feature (free trial and then subscription is needed) is shockingly good and gives the incumbent podcast app search feature a run for its money. And guess what? You can still search in Apple’s app and then simply paste in the feed URL into Mimir if you prefer the depth of Apple’s recommendation algorithm. My final worry was conquered when I tried to put my PAID Wondery podcast streams into Mimir. Easy! Took the URL feeds and Mimir provides me delicious ad-free Wondery content automatically. One final note, check out how often this app is updated. It is clearly being tended to and lovingly cared for by its coder(s). Bought a yearly subscription and haven’t looked back.

3/5A hidden gotcha with iOS.
In many ways, this looks like a promising app, so promising I decided to purchase the desktop app. Since I am trying to get away from subscriptions, I opted for the one-time purchase. When it caame time to set up the iOS version, I figured: why not? And went to purchase the iOS app even though it is in beta. Much to my chagrin, the single Pro version does not remove ads, which is really annoying. If I had known that, I would have just opted for the subscription for both. So I knowed off a start because it should be abundantly clear what is, and is not, included on each version of the app, so a user can make an informed purchasing decision.

4/5Almost the best
So far Mimir is almost the best podcast app I've used. The only one that edges it out is Overcast, except that Overcast doesn't have a reasonable desktop app. A few changes would put Mimir on top for me: 1. A native CarPlay interface. 2. The ability to automatically download new episodes, right now they can be set to download when played, when queued, or not at all. 3. The big one: The Continuous Play is great, but I'd love to be able to set it to only add episodes to the end. For example: If Podcast A has 10 episodes that should sort higher than everything else, but I have it set to only show 1 of them, it will show that one episode and then episodes of different podcasts. However, when that 1 episode ends, it will insert the next episode of Podcast A into the queue in sort order, rather than at the end of the list. That means that even though I initially only see that 1 episode in the upcoming list, it will play all 10 episodes before getting to the rest of the list. I would like it to instead play through what's already shown and any new episodes at the end. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the point of respecting the episode limit is, since all it does is not accurately show you what it will actually be playing. Those first two features would put it on par with Overcast's features. That third would make it the best by far. EDIT: Great to hear that these features are being worked on. I like Mimir a lot, and being able to switch seamlessly between iOS and MacOS is a killer feature. Looking forward to future updates!

For example, when opening the app in CarPlay, the “Now Playing “ app often won’t play; a work-around that sometimes works is to manually play the next podcast episode, than go back. Another example: when managing podcast episodes (especially if you’re managing several at a time), the player interface may freeze momentarily or not reflect your changes. This often necessitates restarting Mimir. All of the little quirks together add up to an often frustrating experience. Finally, I like the recent swipe interface changes to play next/last, and Mark as played/remove from playlist. That said, I’d like to see that expanded to the Now Playing/Next screen instead of only being accessible within each individual podcast.",

Since Apple's Podcast app is so over-simplified and user-hostile, and its display of information is so graphic based (I prefer dense text), I gravitated quickly to Mimir. I've only used it three times, but so far so gool Suggestion: I'd like to restrict the display of recent episodes of each podcast, to say, the ten most recent. This lets me focus on relevant items, yet still maintains high density of information. Thanks for the app! I'm considering upgrading to Pro, but want to use it a while longer.",

          "title": "Impressive and Feature Rich Desktop Podcast App",
          "body": "Disclaimer, I am not a podcast listener on my iPhone, but rely on my Mac to transfer podcasts to a clunky USB memory stick I play in a very old car radio. Tired of the routine, I was looking for a new robust MacOS Desktop App that would make my “drag and drop” ritual a bit easier. Thus, I visited Mr. Google and came across Mimir. I had never heard of it and was reluctant to try an untested third-party app. However, it WAS on the Mac App Store and the few ratings looked decent. The free trial helped and I pulled the trigger. 24 hours later I could not believe I had lived so long without Mimir. It provided solutions to problems I didn’t even know I had. Mimir is everything I could ever want in a DESKTOP podcast app. I can download podcasts willy-nilly, find the ORIGINAL files on my computer, choose where my podcasts are saved (I like to save straight to my iCloud drive), create intricate playlists with auto-queuing set by MY priority levels, select a bunch of podcasts at once and mark them played/unplayed/download/delete etc.. The recommendations feature (free trial and then subscription is needed) is shockingly good and gives the incumbent podcast app search feature a run for its money. And guess what? You can still search in Apple’s app and then simply paste in the feed URL into Mimir if you prefer the depth of Apple’s recommendation algorithm. My final worry was conquered when I tried to put my PAID Wondery podcast streams into Mimir. Easy! Took the URL feeds and Mimir provides me delicious ad-free Wondery content automatically. One final note, check out how often this app is updated. It is clearly being tended to and lovingly cared for by its coder(s). Bought a yearly subscription and haven’t looked back.",

          "body": "In many ways, this looks like a promising app, so promising I decided to purchase the desktop app. Since I am trying to get away from subscriptions, I opted for the one-time purchase. When it caame time to set up the iOS version, I figured: why not? And went to purchase the iOS app even though it is in beta. Much to my chagrin, the single Pro version does not remove ads, which is really annoying. If I had known that, I would have just opted for the subscription for both. So I knowed off a start because it should be abundantly clear what is, and is not, included on each version of the app, so a user can make an informed purchasing decision.",

          "body": "So far Mimir is almost the best podcast app I've used. The only one that edges it out is Overcast, except that Overcast doesn't have a reasonable desktop app. A few changes would put Mimir on top for me: 1. A native CarPlay interface. 2. The ability to automatically download new episodes, right now they can be set to download when played, when queued, or not at all. 3. The big one: The Continuous Play is great, but I'd love to be able to set it to only add episodes to the end. For example: If Podcast A has 10 episodes that should sort higher than everything else, but I have it set to only show 1 of them, it will show that one episode and then episodes of different podcasts. However, when that 1 episode ends, it will insert the next episode of Podcast A into the queue in sort order, rather than at the end of the list. That means that even though I initially only see that 1 episode in the upcoming list, it will play all 10 episodes before getting to the rest of the list. I would like it to instead play through what's already shown and any new episodes at the end. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the point of respecting the episode limit is, since all it does is not accurately show you what it will actually be playing. Those first two features would put it on par with Overcast's features. That third would make it the best by far. EDIT: Great to hear that these features are being worked on. I like Mimir a lot, and being able to switch seamlessly between iOS and MacOS is a killer feature. Looking forward to future updates!",
