  1. 3/5Skip the app and use the web

I removed one star each for the following reasons. First for some reason, my newsfeed has displayed the same stories for four months now. Not sure what the issue is, because neither refreshing nor updating the app have made a difference. No matter how interesting the stories were when posted, they are a bit dated at this point. Second, at the end of the day, I prefer a larger font for reading, yet there does not appear to be a way to enlarge it. Please, Medscape, take pity upon those of us with tired eyes and make it easier to enlarge the font size. If it already exists, make it easier to figure out how.

  2. 5/5Breast cancer treatment disparities among white women vs women of color

As an elderly lay and white woman this was informative. As was also a caretaker of my adoptive grandson with autism severe IDD as well as seizure disorder for 25 years. He had some severe aggressive behaviors. I ignored my own medical needs. Had Medicaid and fairly recently got belated Medicare at age 72. I’m thankful. However I’m now being treated for breast cancer. East diagnosed in early September 2022, finally got lumpectomies in December then full mastectomies end of December. Am on two meds for HRpositive/ HR 2 negative. It’s extremely difficult to navigate who to call on the medical team. Leaving messages still doesn’t help. Amazing. I know the staff is busy. Treatments seem like I’m on a convayor ( spelling)belt . The waiting…while clock is ticking in the pay parking lot . Rooms are crowded still and worry about what disease I’m about to pick up. I’m no longer employable so it’s money to spend that I don’t have. These are my concerns as an elderly woman . Your informative research helps me realize I’m not alone. Thank you for all you do.

  3. 2/5Garbage after AI update

As an ER doc, I used to rely on MedScape for quick access to medication information, especially in the setting of critical illness and overdose. Having fast access to the dosing for uncommon drugs was a real safety boon, and the concise pharmacology information has been critically important more times than I can count. HOWEVER, after this AI update (which follows from the clunky expanded clinical content), the app is borderline useless. Every time I open the app, it has to reload itself as I sit there waiting and staring at the logo only to then be dumped into the AI-centric landing page. This is no longer a reference app. Instead, the MedScape App has become another piece AI-"assisted" garbage that wants to have a conversation and summarize information THAT ALREADY EXISTS IN THE ADJACENT TAB instead of allowing me to simply search for the drug and find the information that I need NOW! MedScape, you get one star for content and one star for what the App used to be, but you can't keep going in this direction. In an attempt to jump on to the AI bandwagon, your utility has been compromised. Kindly hang your head in shame.

  4. 2/5Warning: Do not download - full of ads

Note: Hold-touch on this review to thumb up if you find it helpful. Otherwise, the app will not change. (I will re-post this review with every update that doesn’t change the ads.) I’ve been using this app likely longer than most of its active current developers. I used to recommend it to others in training. However, recently, the ads have become an insult and an attack on the users. Right now, if you click on a notification for an article, automatically an ad from industry will pop up, which cannot be closed and obstructs the entire article. And when you try to close it, the entire article closes. With the poor search function, you cannot even get search for the article to get back to it. this is not to mention, but other ads when you look at a drug are engineered to pop up exactly where you are about to press. For example, if you open the drug reference, they know you want to click on dosing, and they engineered enough seconds for the ad to pop up exactly when you are about to click on the link, so that you click on the ad automatically opening the ad. This is nothing but an attack on the user. If it had a paid ad-free option, it would be worth it. But currently, with its current trajectory toward ads that are more intrusive than spam website, do not use it. You are better off going with a paid alternative.

  5. 2/5Ads

I understand that this is a free app, and that ad support is therefore essential. But ads in this app are getting more and more intrusive. What used to be a banner at the bottom or on the page as on is scrolling is now a pop up that interrupts the entire flow (in addition to banner ads that are still there), that need to be manually closed out. Many of the pop up ads are titled "Manufacturer Announcement," which would be appropriate if these were pop ups about emerging drug safety alerts or recalls, but they are just ads and nothing more. They make Medscape feel like a cheap website with questionable integrity. I have always liked Medscape as a quick and organized reference, but it is becoming less appealing, not because of content but because of ad formatting and interruptions. I'd gladly pay a reasonable annual fee for an ad free version with premium features. But the free app is heading in the wrong direction.

  1. 2/5

Articles are interesting but as soon as they get your email, they drive you nuts. Upwards of 6 emails a day. Unsubscribe only sort of works. They sign you up for all kinds of email lists. When trying to unsubscribe from all, I reach a 404 page.

  4. 4/5

Good information, reliable sources and generally great app. I have two problems though, the first one is that the work postal info shouldn't really be forceful, I have no work or actual correlation to medicine but I love medicine and want to study it further. The second problem is that there seems to be no setting to change the app's language. This trouble is really annoying since I am from a spanish-speaking country and I actually can understand english but i would prefer reading it in spanish.
