1. 5/5Disappointed :(

   Been using solely this app for a little over 5 years at this point, it was my go-to drawing app because it’s layout is perfect and is functional in the way that i learned to draw, few other art apps match up to Medibang base-program wise nor have the layer to clip layer system figured out as well as this app does. I’m happy to pay a fee for the usage of this app, but putting an ad banner into the drawing space was a step too far. If the banner was even just half it’s size, it Might be excusable, but it takes up a tenth of my ipad’s screen, and it’s constant moving and flashing is utterly distracting while i’m trying to draw. Additionally, with the most recent update, i’d been put off by the ad banner but was trying to give it another shot using the upright orientation rather than my go-to landscape orientation that i’d always used for maximum screen-to-canvas accessibility. But, the pieces keep freezing, constantly. Seconds after i’ve saved, closed, and reopened the piece to be able to maneuver the canvas around, it freezes again. I dont want to pay for all the bells and whistles that come with a premium subscription, and to be honest i’d be happy to pay 1.99 or 2.99 a month for simply an ad-free version of the free version of the app, no additional brushes or tools required. It’s been frustrating just trying to use this app recently though, and i don’t think i’ll be using again it unless some changes are made, or more options made available. At this point, i’ve made more progress just drawing on paper. :(

2. 5/5As good as Procreate

   I’ve tried both Procreate and MediBang, their brush engines are vastly different but MediBang wins! MediBang feels like Paint Tool Sai, which I love. It makes cleaner, sharper lines than Procreate does for me. It’s less overwhelming than Procreate. I love Procreate but I use MediBang a lot more for my drawing. I love their brush engine on the iPad. I love the look and feel of their brushes and it’s a lot simpler to use. Procreate just has too many options.... can an app be too customizable? Anyway, I recommend this app to anyone coming from paint tool sai. It’s like a mobile version with how similar it feels. The bonus? I can start on my laptop and move to iPad, which I often do because I find I enjoy drawing on iPad more. I look forward to seeing how much further MediBang can go on the iPad. I hope they develop it further. It’s free and it’s worth it. I love it so much that I’d actually pay real money for a subscription if they ever offer it. Because development takes money. I’d love to see MediBang go further on all platforms. Five stars for a clean, simple, and easy to use drawing app. I’ve tried all the popular favorites so when I say MediBang wins, it wins!

3. 3/5Please fix these crashes, otherwise it is 5 stars.

   I’d like to say I’ve enjoyed this app for MANY years now from device to device from a variety of devices too, including this iPad, it’s worked fine all this time for years, except for recently though. Not sure what update could have started this issue, but suddenly my app wants to freeze randomly as I work on it for only a few minutes and renders the app unusable until I close and restart it. I usually save often, but when I constantly lose more work than I do save because it freezes and crashes every 5 minutes it’s quite annoying to save after just a few lines of work so I don’t lose those 5 minutes of work. When it used to crash before I knew It was my fault because I’d have almost around 200 layers overloading the app and I’d optimize it so it wouldn’t do that, but now I’ll have 15 or less and it can still freeze randomly meaning it’s not me overloading it. I love this app, I wouldn’t have used it for this many years and still to this day if I didn’t, but please fix these constant random freezes that make me close and reopen the app every few minutes making me lose work because I didn’t save every few seconds. I feel like I’m working with a ticking crash bomb and something I do will trigger it randomly despite doing nothing different than I have for years and isn’t me overloading the app with tons of layers. Otherwise this app is 5 stars, it really deserves it, but this freeze and crashing is really bad and would be great to see fixed. Keep up the work with this, just please fix this scary and horrid crash issue.

4. 1/5Guess it’s time to move on.

   So I’ve used this app for years and have told many friends about this app. I told them it was the best free art app out there and it didn’t have advertisements that got in the way like ibis paint, the app I used before medibang. Well I stand corrected since today when I got on to finish a piece I was working on yesterday a massive banner add was above the screen cutting my space to draw down by a lot. It’s a massive inconvenience and it makes it much harder to use the app. The other ads didn’t bother me since they weren’t in the way of my drawing and were pretty short, also unlike ibis I didn’t have to watch them to use brushes or something stupid like that, but now the ads are completely in the way and of course the only way to take off ads is to pay per month. Making this app no better than the subscription based apps that I claimed it was. So now I guess it’s time to move on, much earlier I had bought procreate to try out and didn’t like the brushes and found it confusing since it’s so minimalistic in design but now I guess I’ll have to learn how to use/get use to it since it gives much more space to actually work on and there is no ads after just buying the app. At this point procreate is the better option since in the long run it would be cheaper than paying for space and no ads for months at a time. It makes me pretty upset to step away from a program that I’ve used for so long and loved so much but the ads have taken over too much to comfortably use the app anymore.

5. 4/5Good and bad with new update

   It saves a lot slower, video ads might be contributing to that a bit. Either way I really don’t like the addition of video ads. For some reason one of the updates turned the app I had on my tablet into the phone app, which caused a lot of problems, including my inability to update the app without uninstalling and re-installing it, which led me to have to put every single one of my pieces to the cloud, which took hours. Not only due to how many files I had and their sizes, but primarily because it already takes super long to upload even one piece to the cloud. And that also applies to just saving changes to and closing it. This is the main reason why I didn’t already have all my art in the cloud. Now there’s the new premium membership version that we all knew was inevitable, and I would buy it if I was sure my main problems would be fixed instead of some flashy new features like a reference board and custom textures. I’m still giving this a 4/5 because this is still the best free art app I've found and the good definitely outweighs the bad. Just, please fix these glaring issues that have come up as well as the old ones. I would probably buy the “creative pack” if those were fixed.
