4/5All looks great.. except
My team and org has been using mattermost for a little over 10 months now and its way better than some other chat services we tried.. (its better than teams, adium and almost as good as slack)… I give a 4 because it isnt perfect… There are a lot of times when I get a notification on my desktop app but im not notified on the phone… and some times i send a message to someone on my desktop and it shows as a pending notification on my phone and it only goes away after i read the message i sent which isnt a great user experience

2/5Buggy as can be.
Look, I decided to implement this instead of Slack for my company because I can host on prem and have total control over the functionality. It also ties in nicely with Jira and other well known webhooks: Cloudwatch, Jira etc. But my god, is this the buggiest software/app. Notifications sometimes send (we’re on the enterprise version) - the notification server works when it wants to. If you’re on your phone while a Mattermost notification comes through, you won’t see the pop up. If you’re lucky you’ll see a badge number, but that’s rare. If you do get a badge number, it won’t go away until you log out which is a pain especially if you’re using 2FA. It’s odd, because Mattermost is supposed to be Enterprise level, and their interface is so nice and nice to use, but for whatever reason they can’t seem to iron out all their bugs. How hard is it to fix a badge icon? Or actually push notifications? What’s funny is that on this latest release it says badge icon issue fixed - I updated - and the issue is still there. Ughh. What can you do? Fix your bugs Mattermost!

3/5Bugs, lagging feature parity, and poor support
Unfortunately, I’m forced to use this service for my job but it’s definitely not Slack. First, there are a lot of bugs with the server, the Mac client, and the iOS app. Specifically to the iOS app, there are “stuck” notifications on the app icon. Secondly, support is pretty much non-existent unless you want to go through a hassle of opening a GiuHub issue and hoping someone looks at it. Open-source should not equal poor support. Lastly, the feature parity is just not there. This app works, apart from the notification bug, so I’ll give it 3 stars. But the overall service and apps combined is pretty awful. I can’t believe people would pay for an “Enterprise” license given its issues. [update] Took a YEAR for the developers to respond to this, and then it’s a “try our new version”. In that time, we moved to Slack and now to Teams. Sorry, but that’s just too slow. I mean, it does work, but I would never choose it for wide scale Enterprise use.

3/5Bugs introduced with latest releases
Unfortunately this app is getting worse instead of improving with the newest releases. It used to be a super helpful addition to using the desktop app, but now I have to click into each individual channel to see if there are new messages, which didn’t used to be the case, and the status messages for each individual direct message channel are stuck, so I can no longer skim through and see who’s online at any given time unless I walk back to my desktop and check. Also, if I answer a message on the desktop, now, the notification on the phone doesn’t go away unless I also click all the way in to the app and into the message that is no longer new, which means I really never have any idea if I have messages waiting unless I’m actively looking for them. Submitted feedback more than once to their feedback bot. No change.

2/52.0.0 version doesn’t show unread messages correctly
I’ve been using this app for years and have generally been very satisfied with it. But with the “upgrade” to 2.0.0, it no longer indicates that there are unread messages in other channels when I’m reading a channel. I figured that was a glitch that would be fixed right away, but it’s been a couple of weeks and nothing yet. Very disappointing. ETA: It’s “working as designed”? That’s hard to believe. Why would it be part of the design to not indicate that there are unread messages? Especially when that feature worked in previous versions of the app? Also, the emoji reaction picker doesn’t fit on the mobile screen. I hope that will also be addressed in future updates.
