1. 4/5Great Way to Meet People, but Limited

   I downloaded this app to make more Queer friendships, and I’m so glad I did! This is a great place to build community and get to know other Queer folks! I have made some deep connections because of it, and have connected with Queer people across the globe. I love that there are preset options to put what you’re looking for on your profile! They also have a few prompts that you can answer on your profile that gives others an idea of how to start a conversation with you, which is really helpful! I have only a couple of complaints. First, the app glitches out from time to time. Nothing major, but still annoying. Second, the free version of the app is somewhat limited. If I were looking for dates, I would probably purchase an upgraded version to make it worth it or switch to a different app. It has worked well to build platonic friendships, though!

   What I was looking for: a deeply intense friendship in which writers would get accused of queerbaiting if this were a TV show. In which we’d share a future, even if we never shared a bed. In which we’d write love letters like poets write about the moon, to admire, never to possess. What Lex has given me: a deeply intense romance in which writers would get accused of promoting the gay agenda and seducing children away from traditional family values if this were a TV show. In which we share a future that includes snow days, laundry days, grocery shopping, vacations, inside jokes, food adventures, book discussions, all the profundities and mundanities that comprise the rich and colorful tapestry of lives well-lived, and lots and lots and lots of sex, joyous sex, tender sex, violent sex, make-up sex, wake-up sex, just-met-at-the-airport-an-hour-ago sex, pours-into-your-orifices-like-liquid-gold-and-splatters-your-internal-organs-in-molten-star-stuff sex, leaves-you-bruised-and-trembling-and-sore-for-days sex, ruins-you-for-future-lovers sex. In which we exchange love letters and think pieces, philosophical musings and future plans, and whisper longingly across 3000 miles utterly filthy thoughts of the ways we’d like to lay claim to one other, until we can let our bodies do the talking. I asked for a chord, and received a symphony. Fair warning to all future users: be careful of what you don’t dare wish for. You might just get it.

   I never leave reviews on apps. Mostly cause I don’t care enough to tell people what I think. But this app-wow. Just wow. I’m sure by the time you’ve found this app you’ve already tried Tindr, Grindr, Taimi, Bumble, Meetme, Badoo etc- this is the magnum opus, the creme de la creme, this app works because it gets rid of the picture. It gets rid of the ability to like or not like someone based on what they look like and who I interpret them as. It works because it just brings people together regardless of what u look like. I feel like I’m getting repetitive so let me get to my favorite thing. Never. Ever. In my 21 years of queer socializing have I met so many amazing people. Best part is they all live within 50 miles. With any other app it would give me people farther away just to get me to click more and use it more. This app has been nothing but wonders and I promise I’m not being paid to leave this review. Please. Keep this app a safe and wonderful place. Keep this a place that our community can use. Ik there isn’t really a way to keep bad people out or predatory straight cos people out but-as long as the team stays on top of getting rid of the bad apples that get reported- this app is the only social media app I need.

   Great way to meet new people and find friends. Easy to choose your interests and find those with those same interests. Please always make the ability to choose age range, distance, and orientation(s) be free! If i couldn't do that without a paywell on Lex.. i would not feel safe. When Tinder made you have to pay (among other apps) to be able to choose the ages you saw, I stopped using the app. People who are young who want to make friends need to be safe from older people who they did not intend to have access to speak to them in the first place! Thank you, Lex and your team. I have no business talking to anyone 3 years older or younger or more unless it's for professional and mentor reasons... i had such predatory and abusive situations happen as a result of Tinder priorizing profit over safety. To this day Tinder still makes you pay, same with so many other apps, too. This set ya'll apart, but I'm sure that was purposeful. Please, please, please never change this.. neurodivergent people and vulnerable folx need extra protection like this because most of the time they do know their needs and boundaries and shouldn't have to pay, beg, or bleed before they are met!

   As a UX researcher who has done a lot of research on user retention, I would be very surprised if Lex was successful with this. With what appears to be a low response rate between users (on posts, in private dms, and groupchats), it seems like a lot of users just don’t actively use the app. First of all, I would really appreciate a “last active” feature so it’s more clear who to not bother wasting my time with. I think they could also benefit from incentivizing more interaction (rather than having to pay for more posts). For example, I think reddit does this super well with karma/awards. This idea can be translated by unlocking things like a free variant of the colorful backgrounds if you reach 10+ posts or have a post that gets 50 likes. Maybe if you’re an active participant in groupchats or something that really helps define you as a contributor you get a bonus photo. As of right now, the natural incentivazation (which would be just genuine interaction between users) is low because people aren’t glued to the app enough, but there’s no point in engaging with the app if other people aren’t engaging either, therefore it would make sense to artificially incentivize engagement through those means.
