  1. 3/5issues with VoiceOver

This app needs a complete makeover to make it accessible. If I search for and add books I can't delete them if there is no bookshelf information. I get an error message rather than options to remove from bookshelf or device. when that is the case, I wonder how the book got in the catalog in the first place. I need to use my computer and navigate the lousy website to find the book and possibly delete it. Last week I called tech support and the woman I spoke with had no clue about VoiceOver. Even after I told her I couldn't see at all she kept referring to colors and images I can't see. She said she would refer me to someone who knows VoiceOver and that person never called me back. The app and website need a complete accessibility audit and overhaul. When using the app focus is unreliable and the menu structure is poorly organized. The recommended books should be in its own tab. There should be a list view so a person can swipe vertically and then an actions option for each list item. As things are I need to execute numerous swipe gestures left and right and hope focus is reliable and that I don't get caught in a keyboard trap. yould would think a nonprofit agency would be familiar with accessibility principles and assistive technology blind people use. My observation is that the app is designed for people who can see who happen to have a reading disability rather than a person with no vision who wants to listen to a book. The app is inefficient and frustrating to use and the website is even worse. There are custom controls which don't work with a screenreader and unlabeled links.

  2. 2/5Issue with recent update

I’ve been using this app for about 7 years now. As pointed out by /many/ people, the app has never been extremely polished, but it has been so useful to me over the years that I’ve been more then willing to work around it. However, I recently noticed that, presumably because of some change in the last few months, the audio almost instantly pauses the moment you leave the app or when your phone turns off. While I’ve had issues in the past similar to this (I remember when I started using this app all of those years ago that there was a significant chance you would be moved to a different spot if you listened with your device off for more then a few minutes), but I honestly don’t think I’ve seen any as frustrating as this in a few years, which is sad, since I do feel like the app has improved for the most part over the past few years. I just hope that this is a temporary issue that will soon be solved and I will be able to listen to books while checking a text real quick and without having to tap my phone screen every 30 seconds again soon.

  3. 5/5I love this app!!

I love this app so much my school pays for it. I have dyslexia and without this app I would have have never been able to learn to read. I thank that you should put more books of the babysitters club because I could only find like two of them. And also can you please please put the new diary of wimpy kid hot mess on here. Another thing that I would say is that sometimes when you login to the app the Highland part is highlighting something different then what it actually is reading And I wish that if you have to reset your password it would not get rid of your already downloaded books. Thank you!

  4. 4/5Only A Few Issues

In my opinion, Learning Ally is really great. The app is easy to use. I think the notes thing is really useful, especially for those who like to summarize a book. Although I think that there should be an option where you can select to listen from a specified place to another, in contrast to manually pausing. The only real problem I've encountered is that in order to even read you need a subscription, but if you're a student in the U.S. then you probably already have said subscription and only need to log in using your school email. Another thing is that the books don't save progress between devices, like of I listen from page 25 to 84 in "Percy Jackson" on my computer whilst working, then when I go to my phone whilst traveling, I'm still going to be on page 25. The final problem I've noticed is that sometime when you're listening to an audio book on your phone while doing something else, after a "long" time, it glitches out and stop completely. When this happens I have to go manually to my phone, the press the last piece of text I heard in order for it to keep reading the book to me. Other than these problems, I really haven't seen anymore. So if you like reading or are a student who likes to read, then definitely download this app.

  5. 3/5Please Fix Bugs in Most Recent Update

I have never left a review for an app before now. First, thank you for all of the aid your organization gives to those of us who suffer from learning disabilities. Your app truly helps. That being said, the most recent update has made the app very difficult to use. Every time I download a book that should take mere MBs, the app storage increases by 15 to 20 GB. If I delete the book, the storage is still filled up so I end up having to delete the entire app and start over to download a new book. This was never an issue until the most recent update. Also, the app is glitching. It freezes or has a delayed response when I interact with the user interface. Another issue that I am now experiencing is that the audio playback stops every few minutes, and sometimes the app will even log me out mid-reading. I now have to re-log in on average three times for every hour of listening. Please fix the bugs! The app worked perfectly before. I will definitely change the rating to 5-star if the glitches are fixed!
