   I’ve been looking around, trying to find a good way to properly learn Japanese grammar and get explanations on it, but it wasn’t a very successful endeavor. I decided to just search up something on the App Store for kicks and found this. I’ve already gone through the first two lessons, and if the rest of the app is like this, then I think it’ll be smooth sailing. Good examples, completed lessons (as in, even though they frequently offer that you download their other apps, they still have the information there in the lesson so you don’t have to download them if you feel confident enough with what’s there), catching the little things that might let you slip through the cracks, and being short enough that you get what you need in a few minutes...what a wonderful run-on sentence. But again, I’ve only been on here for maybe an hour. That’s not enough to see the whole grand scheme of things yet, even though they easily come across as professional and you can tell a lot of effort was put into the content and the appearance of the app, which I highly appreciate. I recommend downloading and checking it out yourself. Less reviews for an app doesn’t mean it’s not as good. Give it a shot.

   One of the things that kept me from really becoming fluent in Japanese is the lack of good affordable materials. I tried duolingo and it was just too tedious that I stopped. The only thing I’ve had ok success with is the dictionary Japanese which has flash cards, but not grammar. I did check out the original version of this app but it was so outdated in its graphic design that it made it really hard to use. Though they fixed that and I’m hoping I can try again at Japanese, I’m so glad I checked the App Store again for a Japanese learning app. I also love how there’s no ads. How are you able to make a app that’s completely free? Just, how?

   I have been studying Japanese for 13 years. I discovered Tae Kim’s guide several years ago and it changed my life. I bought the next version, but was upset when the app was removed from the App Store because I couldn’t recommend it to friends and students anymore… however, I just found this app, a new Tae Kim app! And I couldn’t be happier. Now when students ask me for recommendations of apps to use, I can recommend the greatest Japanese resource that exists for English speakers. This guide is a MUST HAVE for beginners. Throw everything else away!!!

4. 5/5There’s none better! Search bar and cloud sync please!

   This is the best digitalization of Tae Kim’s book I’ve seen. It includes not only the meaning of each vocab word but the reading and kanji writings as well. The interface is perfect, has a dark mode, offers self-rating and generates stats based off that. My only suggestions would be to 1. add a search bar so I can locate a specific chapter based on certain keywords (currently supported by at least one other Tae Kim book app) 2. a bookmark feature and 3. iCloud sync across devices. This app would be my go-to if it supports those! Thank you developer!!

   I’ve only just started using this app. I’ve been using the kana-learning app by the same developer to gain a solid base understanding of those characters (I highly recommend it!), and it mentioned this one, so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m only about ten minutes in, so it’s pretty early for a review, but I’m going to leave my thoughts here and update later if I remember! So far this app shows a lot of promise. The introduction is very intelligently written and I feel confident that these lessons will present the material in a logical way. My only complaint so far is that there are a few instances of iOS taking text that happens to be the name of a movie or band and turning it into a link. I expect that should be pretty easy for the developer to fix though, so those probably won’t last for long :) Anyway, I’m really looking forward to using this app! I’ll try to remember to update this review when I get a bit further.
