  1. 3/5I got it to work well enough to be of use

First off, make sure all speakers are updated to the lastest version or it wont work in any capacity. If the app says there's an update for your speaker available, update. Then, disconnect and forget the initial bluetooth connection through your phones settings, turn off your speakers, and wait a few seconds. Reboot the speakers, reconnect BT, and then connect to the app. If you try connecting to the app before connecting bluetooth, things break. After you try that a few times in different orders, it works-ish. It takes way too much time to get working, but it eventually fixes itself. Once that happens, its pretty useful for EQing and transfering EQs from speaker to speaker. Only issue is that sliders are janky and unresponsive, you cant change EQs and channel gains for groups with the same speaker models within them (you can change group master tho), and the app is a little confusing to navigate with no help section or tutorial. After you get a hang of it though, its useful enough to use regularly. Note that my speakers (eon 715s) sort of didn't function quite right at some stages of the process after updating, but they fixed themselves within a few minutes and turning them off between attempts to connect. After you connect them and get the app working once, though everything works smoothly and consistently with connecting. Its a 4/5 app, but the mess of getting it to work, slider issues, and clunky navigation ruin the rating.

  2. 4/5Incredible all in one unit

I have loved my Eon One but this version is a substantial upgrade! I really love the ability to control the system remotely from my iPad. This solves a significant issue I had with my Eon One whereby you basically had to mix on stage or run an external mixer to the unit. And this unit is super beefed up from the Eon One in terms of bass, power, mixer channels and features. Very impressed! My only complaint is I cannot find any user manual for the Pro Connect app. By process of clicking and searching I’m kind of figuring things out. I had to update the firmware twice before it would connect but now seems to work. But I am not sure how to navigate the program. Not everything seems to respond when I tap on it. Controlling channel volume is pretty obvious but beyond that I’m struggling. This would likely be a 5 star review if a manual were available for the Pro Connect App. I am extremely impressed with this all in one unit. I have loved my Eon One but this PRX version is a very substantial improvement in terms of bass, overall power, and an expanded and high tech mixing counsel. And love the ability to control remotely with my iPad!

  3. 3/5Bluetooth disconnects a lot in-app

I’m using an iPhone 11 to connect to my PRX One and, wow… it disconnects from the speaker all the time. Always if you page away from the app, but even while you’re using it, it will jump back to the main screen and you have to tap on speaker, wait for it to show that it’s connected, tap again, then go back to what you were doing. I’m a singer songwriter mostly playing coffee houses and wine bars, so fortunately, I can generally dial in the sound I want at home - getting the compressor, eq, and fx just right - and just do main eq touch ups at the gig. But if I had to set up this rig for a new set of musicians, instruments, mics, etc. on site, I’d be worried. The connection UX needs more improvement. It’s not obvious the difference between when you’re “connected” (shows a set of signal strength bars) vs able to click into the mixing page (the speaker name lights up). Some extra text plus a button to go to the mix page would go a long way. Occasionally, it seems like either the mixer overrides the app or the app overrides the mixer and I hear something “kick on”, like the EQ is reset or the compressor threshold catches up to the changes I’ve made on the app. Not sure what’s happening there. Once, I was changing parameters once on the chorus effect, and nothing was sending back to the mixer. I had to kill the app and reconnect to be able to make changes Not sure how much of this is the app or the on-board Bluetooth on the speaker/mixer, so I don’t know which to blame. I would love to have some kind of display of how much gain reduction is occurring in the compressor. You have to go totally by ear alone (which is actually a good thing in some ways), but getting at least an average dB reduction would help dial in faster The amount of DSP and control you get on the PRX One is still worth it in my opinion. I have so much control of my sound which is marvelous. And as a solo performer, the subsynth effect is perfect for filling a room and sounding larger than life

  4. 4/53 years running with no issues

I’ve been using JBL PRX Ones, 710s, 918xlfs and Eon Compacts for about 3 years. Most of the time I am mixing through a separate board as it’s a large band. Occassionally we will have a smaller group and I will use the PRX One onboard mixer or even the Compact’s mixer. When using a separate board, I will typically use the app to make sure the speakers are all configured correctly. The app makes it quite easy to make sure everything is set up right and improvements over the years have made presets more useful to get the job done faster. When using on-board mixers, I have had no complaints. It’s important to remember the app is not a substitute for a separate $1000+ mixing setup. Even with a great mixer, phone apps are notoriously squirrelly because you have limited space for visibility and gestures. It is possible to do live mixing with the app, but there are compromises. If you require fast response console type control, this isn’t it. If you can set up the song and make adjustments with some leeway, it works great. The capabilities are pretty darn good considering that it is using the DSP in a speaker that costs less than a good console. It’s not always the most intuitive but it has tremendous capability and has always worked well and done what I needed. Some ongoing improvements in UI would be good and presets and groups keep getting better. JBL has been very responsive to user requests and those requests regularly show up in firmware and app updates. Not every request gets implemented and yes, there have been occasional rollout bugs but I have never been in a situation where my ability to use the system as expected is impossible. I do follow the firmware update instructions as specified, and I don’t do a firmware update right before a gig. Overall, I am quite happy with JBLs ongoing support of the product offerings.

  5. 1/5Unable to Connect new EON 718s Subwoofer

I was unable to connect my new EON 718s Subwoofer at all. Without this app and its Bluetooth connectivity to related devices, the main features of this line is missing. When I called Harmon/JBL tech support they could not determine my issue because they didn’t have the same equipment on hand to troubleshoot alongside me. After 45 minutes with no changes they told me I needed to send my product back to my authorized dealer for a replacement. A few days later they called me back to inform me that nothing is wrong with my sub, it’s just that their app does not yet support their newest “professional” subwoofer. I gave a one-star rating because this app is completely unusable for my use case, although I know that not everyone buys a subwoofer without the entire family of speakers to go with it. The app itself looks cool, I wish I could use it.
