1. 5/5Small tight late and rude

   Apps fine. The flight sucked. A 1 hour flight turned into a 3 hour pain. Had to take a bus out to the plane. Then we sat there on the tarmac for an hour. The plane was small and the lady in front of my wife leaned her seat back during the delay and squeezed her while we sat and waited. We asked the steward to help but he did nothing and after asking nicely the woman in front of my gave some attitudes. The guy behind my wife was very tall and shoving his knees against her back the whole time. It was also very hot. The crew was kinda rude. There’s probably a better choice than this. Literally the chair in front of me is hitting the brim of my hat.

2. 1/5Never seen something this poor before

   You buy the ticket from the web while you are logged in, and the ticket doesn’t show up on the mobile app. What on earth have you done? There are three million clicks to check in. You need to even repeat information you already have in your account, like email address and phone number. Every time you check in. Why?? You can even add multiple tine your ticket in the app. It doesn’t check for duplicates. Very confusing. The boarding passes generated for the iPhone wallet don’t expire automatically like it happens for any other app, so you have to manually remove them. When you add some service during check in, the app basically fails any type of payment you try (credit card, PayPal, etc). Also, have you heard of Apple Pay? It works 100% of the time and it’s the simplest to integrate! Oh and I forgot … to check the flight status, you need to manually search the flight as opposed to pick the information from the ticket you have in the app. After you search manually … it doesn’t tell you at what gate the flight is!!! Brilliant! Come on guys, this is not hard!

   At least it appears that they are reading reviews and trying to address some of the issues raised. However this app has a long way to go. With all the very good airline apps out there(united, delta, Lufthansa etc) I’m surprised they can’t figure it out. Some specifics: every time I open the app it wants me to check in- even after I’ve boarded the plane! It asks for the same information multiple times. You can’t easily manage your flight (i.e. look what is going with your connection in the event of a delay) and in the event of a delay there were zero notifications. I was generous with a 3 star rating.

4. 1/5Terrible—can’t even log in

   If you cannot log into your account on the app, you need to find the ITA website on a regular internet browser (where you should first confirm you can login at all) and request to reset your password. Reset your password to be exactly 8 characters long and then try to log into the app again. Apparently this is an issue that happens with long passwords. DO NOT attempt to reset the password from the login page the app gives you. The website the app uses to do your login is different from the one ITA uses on a browser. The website from the app rejects your login and also will not send you an email when you request to reset your password. This will count towards your 24 hr password reset limit however. Found this out the hard way, so hopefully I can save you some trouble.

   It’s honestly kind of hilarious how poorly this airline operates. Italy seems proud to call it their national carrier, but the experience says otherwise. Their lounge didn’t have a single available seat, the domestic terminal felt more like a chaotic amusement park, and aircraft assignments seem totally random—whatever plane lands next is what they use. We booked Business Class, only to end up in standard economy seats after a last-minute aircraft switch. Looking at the flight logs, they used a different plane on the same route every day for a week—only one of which actually had real Business Class seating. At the end of the day, we don’t even care that much about the seat, but when you pay extra expecting proper service, a decent breakfast, and the seats they advertise, it’s a letdown to get an outdated aircraft instead.
