1. 5/5High quality productions!

   I love the higher production quality, better directing, better acting, better screenplay writing, better original stories found on CandyJarTV. I have watched films from a lot of apps presenting this genre now being called Verticals, and there is such a wide range in quality out there! Some apps offer a lot of movies with OK quality but sometimes repeats similar plots (like ReelShort) or apps where production values are so highly variable (DramaBox varies from really great to pretty iffy) or apps with technical issues with use (Shorts). But CandyJarTV suffers from none of these issues and probably represents the top of the field, going for quality over quantity. Try out The Arrangement, for an outstanding modern drama, or Chasing Kiarra if you are into a more fantasy genre. If you have been reading on Galatea (which I also recommend), some of their top rated books have been made into movies on CandyJarTv and the conversions have been outstanding! I’m not big on doing App Store reviews, but the quality difference between CandyJarTV and most of the other Verticals apps calls for speaking out.

2. 2/5Wait or pay

   I think these short stories are actually good unlike a lot of the rest of the halfway AI generated stuff you see as ad’s on your social media platforms. The problem isn’t the stories, it’s the greedy attempts to get an unnecessary amount of money out of its viewers. The initial story will let you get 15/40 episodes in before it asks you for a payment of some sort to continue the story, which is typical for apps like these…however, if you don’t pay you wait 19 hours to unlock the next episode, WHICH IS ONLY 50 SECONDS LONG OR SHORTER. That wouldn’t even be a problem if you had to wait 19 hours to unlock around 5-10 more episodes but you only get 1 episode out of the long wait OR you pay $20 a month for a subscription to the story. $20 a month for 50 second episodes that only have 40 episodes total is absolutely not worth it, try $5 and maybe you’d actually have a lot more subscribers because the stories ARE GOOD ENOUGH to pay a little bit of money to watch them, it’s the same concept of Netflix but Netflix charges for access to movies, tv shows, interactive games, and more. Like I said, I’d pay $5.99 give or take for the SHORT stories to let me actually watch them all the way through without be interrupted every 30-50 seconds demanding an obnoxious amount of money for me…also the actors in these shorts deserve to have their work put out there for people to see, not just who can afford to see.

3. 5/5CandyJar = Quality for me

   I got into CandyJar from IG. It wasn’t the first verticals app I downloaded, but it was always the one whose quality stood out. After downloading others first (their stories stood out to me), I found myself still yearning for CandyJar because the quality of the films and the richness of the storylines’ executions were aspects that were hit or miss on other vertical apps. I just want to give props to the care, professionalism, and intentionality put into CandyJar, as well as the quality the directors, writers, and editors put into these particular films to make them realistic and not painfully cringey because actors I’ve seen across multiple films and platforms perform some of their best execution here. Not to mention, as a user, the process models are better on CandyJar than ReelShorts or DramaBox or My Drama. You know something is good when you’d rather go the legit way to get the quality experience you appreciate.

4. 4/5Best vertical app but needs more features

   I watch a lot of verticals on several apps and Candy Jar puts out the highest quality verticals of any app. The acting, stories, scripts/dialogue, and cinematography are all consistently great. But the best part is that they aren’t as absurdly greedy as a lot of the apps out there. The yearly subscription is quite reasonable and affordable for most. That said, this seems to be a young app that is building itself. Features within the app are very basic. There is no option to change playback speed. There is no way to search for specific actors. If you’ve never clicked on a show before, you’ll get a small synopsis but once you begin watching, you’ll never see that synopsis again - and no description page for each show that tells you who the actors are. Finally, there is no option for picture-in-picture, so you will have to interrupt your viewing if you need to check another app or notification. There is also a somewhat limited library - for now. It seems like they put out a new show once a week, and I expect as they establish themselves their content library will greatly expand. Also, consider that this app is clearly focusing on the quality of their content and not just churning out garbage. I much prefer that. I have yet to see a single show on this app that I did not enjoy. If they were to add the features I mentioned above, this would easily be a five star rating.

5. 1/5Way too expensive compared to other apps

   I got suckered into some of the similar apps out there, and I don’t mind paying some $ to support the actors and production crew. However, this is by far the biggest rip off on the market. It costs around $50 per series, no option to buy the whole thing in bulk, and some episodes are 30seconds while others are a minute and a half and filled with fluff (while it’s unthinkable that on these platforms where they edit everything down to 30s-1min long episodes there would be fluff, well they find a way) no way to skip episodes for example or to preview episodes etc.! Look, I’m one of those people where at this point in my life I’d be willing to pay $15-$20 per series. It’s the deception and beyond exorbitant price that I find annoying and quite frankly insulting so I will be deleting this app right now. Also, as enticing as they make the ads, trust me that you’re not missing much- they drag things out unnecessarily, no character development, no scene ever goes beyond kissing though they do say the F word a lot. You’d be far better off watching a classic rom-com! Better actors, story and development arks
