  1. 4/5Amazing (asterisk)

Honestly one of the best painting apps I’ve ever used. The brushes are easy to use and feel amazing to draw and paint with, and creating new brushes is simple and easy. I can draw and paint in several different styles, from extremely graphic design to impressionist painting with ease, which I haven’t been able to do with any other art apps. The filters are easy to use, and the effect layers, like gradient maps, are amazing and something I can’t do without as an illustrator. HOWEVER, there are a few bugs I’ve found that make it impossible to give it five stars. Sometimes when making a new layer in a project with multiple layers and folder groupings, the new layer will randomly disable other layers, seemingly for no reason I can figure out, and turning the layers on and off does nothing to help, and the only way to work around it is to keep painting on layers that are already there and hope for the best. I haven’t yet found a quick fix for this. Every time I resize my canvas, I can’t draw again without the app crashing, and closing and reopening the app, the project, etc, does nothing to help. The only way around this is to duplicate the project and start working on the duplicated copy, deleting the original afterward. While duplicating the project does allow me to continue working, it absolutely interrupts the artistic flow, and every time it happens, I’m terrified that duplicating the project won’t work and I’ve lost hours or even days of work.

  2. 4/5Oh. My. God.

I absolutely love this app. I’ve never had a real drawing app (nor have I ever been very good at digital art). So when I found this app, I fell in love with it. It’s so easy to use, and it’s amazing. I love how realistically the tools work (the water color brush type works like actual water colors), and it was quick and easy to get the hang of. I’ve made some amazing art, and I love the enormous variety of brush types and pens and such. I would say, my only complaints... When I first got the app, per a lot of apps with a paid thing, I was asked if I would like to try the free trial. I said no, as I wanted to get to know the app before deciding if I needed to pay for it. So, I began using the app, thinking I was using the base type. However, I stopped using it for about a week (artist block, oops), and when I came back, I was QUITE mad to discover what I had been using was the paid version as a trial. My second complaint isn’t a super big deal. I’m not a huge fan of how there’s only one thing I can purchase in the app. When I discovered I had to pay for layers, I was a little annoyed that I couldn’t just pay less to get a smaller pack with layers, I had to pay for EVERYTHING. Not a huge complaint, more just advice for the developers of the app. Would also request maybe some more patterned type brushes (like that grid brush, but other kinds). Anyways, I would highly suggest this app for for any artists. It’s amazingly accurate, and I love how it works. 10/10 would suggest downloading.

  3. 5/5It’s AWESOME!!! But now there’s one problem

Ok for starters I just got this game and it’s AMAZING. My friends have the game and they all love it too. I love how there are a million different types of sizes and prints for just one type of writing utensil. For example, the pencil-there are the 2B pencil, HB, promo pencil, technical pencil, coarse pencil, concept pencil, waxy pencil, old pencil, cloth pencil, fiber pencil, hatching, cross shader and scratch shader- a lot right? And that was just pencil there are marker water color, paint, calligraphy, chalk etc. There are sooo many options! I personally use symmetry a lot (it’s a tool in the game) and it’s very useful. There are a lot more things you can do but I don’t want to continue because I bought pro and I don’t know what you first get so I don’t want to basically lie:). I suggest getting this app! I’ve downloaded lots of others and this one is by far the best👍👍👍! But I also suggest getting the pro, you only pay once for ten dollars and it gives you a lot more options! But even if you don’t get pro I think you should get it! 👍✨❤️💕🖌🎨 Update: This just started happening yesterday where as soon as I click to draw it just kicks me. I’ve tried restarting the game multiple times now but it won’t let me back into the game I’ve also deleting th e app re-downloaded it and me and my dad have looked up a million different ways to help if your game kicks you. Every so often for some random reason it still does let me draw but still not always. Pls fix this I’ve already heard someone say this already.

  4. 4/5Great engine but needs support

Infinite Painter is one of the best art apps available out there and for those with a focus on painting, will most likely meet your needs. The brush engine is impressive, delivering realistic and fast strokes with fairly robust and granular controls. It comes equipped with really useful tools to help you out in desigin-related creation for precise and realistic rendering. UI is simple and easy to use, allowing you to access tools and controls quickly for a smooth workflow. However, it takes some exploration to learn how to use all this, and this is Infinite Painter’s greatest weakness. There’s little to no guidance on how exactly to use this app. Sure, basic things are explained to you, but those things are intuitive anyways. So many things are just never discussed. Pinning tools, canvas manipulation, deeper brush controls/parameters, all this stuff has to be discovered through trial and error. I’ve flipped the canvas vertically before and couldn’t find a way to turn it back over. Took forever to get it back and it happened by accident. Occurred a few times before I figured out what I was doing. I certainly hope this continues to be developed out because as of right now, it’s a great tool but needs to be pushed further to become truly excellent. Learning materials, more explanatory UI, and greater apple pencil integration would really take this a long way. Still, it’s a powerful tool as is.

  5. 4/5So much potential to be the best

I never leave reviews but wanted to because I think this app has a lot of potential to be brilliant—it already comes so close. The tools are great, the UI is perfect, and the value locking feature on the color wheel is genius. I also love it because it’s the only app outside of PS that allows me to quickly check the values of my painting in grayscale with a shortcut. The perspective tool is one of the best, however I wish there was some way (I haven’t found any) to adjust the colors or opacity of the grid lines. Also—this may be a difficult ask—I think one key element of many beloved drawing and painting programs is the ability to import PS brushes. While the brush customization is robust, many artists already have brushes they rely on and love, and while recreating its duplicate in IP may be fun, is also time consuming and a little more than is worth the effort sometimes. Obviously brushes aren’t everything, but I have certain brushes that just “feel” best to me that I find myself sorely missing in IP, especially when I’m still getting used to figuring out which ones work best for which purposes. Infinite Painter’s strengths are in its tools and painting brushes, however I’ve noticed some of the sketching and drafting brushes don’t ever “feel” quite the way I’d like, even after noodling around in the settings. It defied explanation and really is just a long winded way of saying that I’d be so thrilled if we could import abr files (or at least have a more organized and easy to browse area for community brushes eg with tags and descriptions)

Perspective rotate and scale - in the previous versions, after using Distort - Transform, your were able to move the content in the perspective defined by the transformation frame. Now, if you jump back to Free or Anchor, you can also rotate or scale in perspective. In Anchor mode, the anchor is treated like a point in 3D space. - Import layer groups when importing PSD - New Flow Arrow brush in the Design brushes - ALT (option) key now triggers the Eyedropper - Improved Home Indicator bar appearance and system gestures - Moved Undo History to a button above Undo instead of auto-showing the bar - Improved rate of color jittering Just in case you missed our big update: Layer groups - creating groups is a snap (or well, closer to a pinch). Just pinch the layers you want to group. It’s that easy. Open and close groups by tapping the folder icon. Tap to the right of the folder or on the group’s name to open the group options. Adjustment layers - 8 color adjustments and 9 filter adjustments. Expand the layers panel to find this option. Try out Pixelate and Halftone. Filter brushes - apply filter effects to the layer or the brush when painting by adding a Filter effect in the Special section of the brush settings. For example, you can create a Burn and Dodge brush by adding the Layer - Exposure filter to the brush. Shape stamping - when using shapes, you can now use the Stamp option to add multiple copies of the shape to the canvas. Virtual transformations (Last-minute Transform) - instead of resampling a layer after Transform, the system renders the transformation in real-time and only applies the transformation when the layer’s pixels are edited. This allows you to move elements out of the canvas, or to apply multiple transformations without affecting the quality of the layer multiple times. HD timelapses - playback videos now use the dimensions of the project and can be set in advance to 720p, 1080p, or 4K in the Settings. Share brush folders - you can now share and import brush folders. Tap the selected brush folder and choose the Share option to share it with other users. Head Depth (new brush setting) - this is a powerful feature that interprets the brush head's transparency as a three-dimensional height map. This is great for bristle-style brushes where little pressure has only a few bristles touching the canvas and heavy pressure has all of the bristles touching the canvas. Dilution curves (new brush setting) - when using Dilution, you can now control painting versus blending with pressure or tilting the stylus. Panel Tool - create comic and manga panels. This will create an adjustment layer that masks all the content below it into panels. Slice across to divide a page into panels. Tap the divider lines to edit them. Tone Lock - you can tap the Hue control on the color wheel to turn this on or off. When on, the system adjusts the saturation and brightness of a color when changing the hue value so that that colors look nice together. Touch-ALT now supports the Finger mode setting. This is SUPER powerful. You can use this by binding a tool (Blend, Erase, Eyedropper, Move) to the Finger. When holding one finger on the screen and then using your Pencil to paint, the mode will trigger. You can easily change between Paint and Blend simply by pressing a finger to the screen and drawing with the Apple Pencil. Other additions and improvements: - New Liquify mode with Rewind and Restore options - New quick tool actions (snap, hide grid for perspective without toggling on and off perspective) - Hold down the color button with one finger and use your other finger to pick colors from the canvas (like the ALT key in Photoshop) - Black and White mode for Navigator (in Settings gear). This is incredibly useful for value studies while painting in color. - Flip reference images or the Navigator with a double-tap - Global pressure, tilt and velocity curves - Pixel pen is now a true 1 pixel pen Enjoy! :)

Inktober projects - for the month of October we have partnered with Jake Parker, the creator of Inktober, to add a special workflow inside Infinite Painter. When creating an Inktober project, you’ll be offered the official prompt list to choose from. Inktober is all about moving forward, so these projects disable undos and the eraser to give a traditional pen and paper experience. So, ink with purpose! - New Proko Pencil (based on the technique of Stan Prokopenko) - Selection Wand now samples all layers Just in case you missed our big update: Layer groups - creating groups is a snap (or well, closer to a pinch). Art Challenge projects - a new way to exercise your creativity and strengthen your artistic skills. Redesigned Colors panel - added new tabs and settings. New Lighting orb - bring depth to your flat colors by adding light and shadow. Simplified New Canvas screen - setting up a canvas should be simple, so should the screen. From Image screen - it’s so much easier to set up a project with a reference image or an image to trace over. Recent brushes - no need to dig through the brushes to find which ones you’ve used. Recent colors - we keep 10 of your last colors for quick, easy access at the top of the new Palettes tab. New color palettes - we worked with a talented digital artist to create beautiful (and highly useful) color palettes. Multi-palette support - load up multiple palettes to use in your projects. Smart Clipping for Panels - draw inside a panel and the app automatically clips your content to that panel. Smart, eh? Sample current layer - the Eyedropper now supports sampling all layers or only the current layer. Floating swatch - drag out from the color comparison (top of the Colors panel) to set a dynamic color swatch directly on the canvas. View color changes in realtime (in context)! Compare tone setting - compare the tone (value) of the color in the color comparison at the top of the Colors panel. Several other bug fixes and improvements. Keep creating! :)
