   The idea of the app overall is cute with how you can customize it and set up your funds, etc. But the app itself is total garbage. It’s so laggy. The photos never fit in the frame with how you adjusted it. It always logs me out. I was creating my website on my phone via a browser and I was like “oh this is so bad, let me just get the app.” Assuming it would be 10x better. No, it’s not lol. They really need to work on the app bugs and glitches…

2. 1/5Miserable to navigate, no idea how this has 4.8 stars

   Since the beginning, other than designing the website, using Honeyfund has been one problem after another. First off, literally no where except in hard to find small print does it say that you need to link your checking account before receiving your first gift, or else there is no way to transfer that into your back account as cash. In this scenario, your gifts are stuck in a Honeyfund gift account which gives you access to purchasing gift cards from other companies: You know, stuff that all newly married couples who are planning a trip want, quality businesses like Bass Pro Shop. Burlington Coat Factory. My favorite, Olive Garden. Just what I always wanted- gift cards for places that don’t even have stores outside the US while I’m planning my honeymoon. I tried to redeem my gift balance for a Southwest Airlines gift card because my new mother-in-law is sick and I need to fly down to help immediately. The gift card gave me an error website and then said it refunded the money back to my gift balance. Guess what DIDN’T happen. I contacted their lovely customer service for the second time, which of course takes 3 days to respond “due to COVID-19.” The whole purpose of this site (it is literally the name of the company) is to raise money for a trip as opposed to having a traditional registry. In reality, it’s a trash marketing scheme sponsored by retailers without clear information about the process of getting gifts. Thanks for messing up my honeymoon plans, Honeyfund.

3. 1/5Poor Product, Horrific Customer Service

   My wife and I registered on Honeyfund for our recent wedding because we really wanted a nice honeymoon instead of items. We have been consistently disappointed every step of the way. First, the app and website are difficult to navigate. The app makes you login excessively, unlike most other apps with single sign on. It’s not immediately clear how you can receive your funds, and it’s deceptively easy to fall for their advertisement of getting your cash without fees. Our wedding came and went, and we opted to do two lump sum withdrawals from our Honeyfund into PayPal. What they don’t tell you is that your gifts of money are sent to PayPal as either a “good or a service”, and therefore, subject to income tax at 20%+ if your withdrawal is greater than $600. This decision was not made with our knowledge or consent. Our gifts of money are not in exchange for either a “good or service provided”. We were advised that we will get a 1099 form at the end of the year to work with a tax professional to get our money and file the taxes appropriately. This is incorrect; neither a good or service was performed, and therefore, does not constitute income. How Honeyfund made that assessment is wrong, and appalling. We received almost $4,000 on Honeyfund instead of our friends and family giving us cash or checks. So in essence, the end result is that most of money is being taxed because Honeyfund improperly codes the transaction to PayPal. Do not use Honeyfund for any reason. Sadly, go the old fashioned way of taking cash or check.

4. 2/5Was destined for greatness

   We had used Honeyfund for our wedding this past year and was looking for an easy way to set up a registry that would allow people to “get us gifts” while allowing us the flexibility to choose what we want to spend it on. The interface itself was very easy to set up and use on both ends and after the wedding, started taking out the money with their PayPal option. There are plenty of other gift card options from various companies and stores to choose from as well, but not what we were looking for out of this. Halfway through us taking the money out, Honeyfund changed their options to only allow instant transfers to PayPal which includes a 2% transaction fee, removing the free version altogether. For those looking to use this in the future, beware!

5. 1/5Didn’t work

   We found out our wedding guests had been contributing and their money was never coming through. Half of the guests cards got declined and the other half had no clue it didn’t work. We had to sheepishly send out a message to our wedding guests saying that if they tried to use it we never received anything and to make sure they didn’t lose the money. When I contacted honey fund they were no help and we ended up dealing with this only a few days right before the wedding. Very stressful. On top of that my husband and I did a test run on it and it only worked for us??? We literally had a friend try it right in front of us, then my parents, and his and nobody had it work for them.
