  1. 3/5Great content with some big flaws

We had been subscribers to Homer for a few years. In the beginning we really loved it. Our kids were about 4 and 2 years old. Our daughter used Homer all the time and I do think it helped her reading skills. Both my kids were upset with the big update to the Wickles when they lost the carousel at the intro screen - I tend to agree. The carousel was lovely and easy. The Wickles are slow and the screen is crowded. We continued on. Our son started using it often too and we were so very excited with the postcards. We were supposed to be able to log in in our own account and even have family members send postcards to our children. We could do it (sometimes) but our family members couldn’t and it had so many bugs. My son still made hundreds of postcards that just got sent to “Homer”. Our biggest issue however, and the reason we stopped subscribing, was the user account issue. We had an account for our daughter and one for our son, and we should be able to create them- NOT the children. They were able to create extra accounts and use their sibling’s account and therefore tracking their progress and data was becoming very problematic. We contacted support several times but this issue was never resolved. I was very sad because I REALLY think the content is amazing. The folk songs and illustrations are really gorgeous. The stories and history lessons amazing. The games are creative and the reading programs are well-done. And my kids loved getting their Saturday Surprise. Because we stopped paying we lost ALL of our children’s data (all those amazing postcards, drawings and voice recordings) from their four years of use. Pretty disappointing :-(

  2. 4/5Love it so far

My older daughter is dyslexic and her teacher noticed that she was struggling to have confidence with reading. Came across this on Pinterest one day and decided to try it. We have only been using the free trial for a few weeks and we love it!! My younger daughter is addicted to it right now. She is using the preschool pathway and loves everything. My older daughter is on the growing reader pathway and is gaining confidence, even if she is sometimes bored (it’s geared more towards younger children and she’s 8). I run a very small prekindergarten for about 6 of my friends kids. Our neighbor is incredibly bright for her age (newly 5 and can read chapter books) so I made her and her little brother profiles. However, it has her on the pre-k pathway and she says that it is really easy. Her brother is only 2 and is on the same pathway as my youngest(3). I remember that when I made my first profile, I gave me the option to chose another profile for my older daughter but I can’t do that now. Is their anyway that I can chose the pathway I think they should be on? Overall, this is a really lovely app for any child who wants to have an educational boost. Totally recommend!!!!

  3. 5/5Great application!

Okay, I must admit that the cost and my experience with kids learning apps was the reason I delayed. We are in the trial period and I am amazed. My son is a wiggler. He wants to speed through the instructions with his kindergarten teacher, so he ends up doing some of the sheets twice. We spend 30 minutes together doing Homer each day. I have seen an improvement in his sounding out words. I never had phonics in school, and I love the way it works on short vowel sounds. He loves taking the monkey from one tree to the banana tree via vines that have words on the leaves. He has to pick the word that the app tells him. The greatest thing is when he reads a whole story by recording one sentence at a time. If he gets stuck on a word he can touch it and it will help him. He is so proud he is reading. He even goes and gets other books so he can read to me. He gets sight words on Homer that correlates to words he is getting in school. He even has added reviewing his school site words from school because he has gained so much confidence in his abilities. If this isn’t enough to persuade me, I look at the books available to students through Scholastic. I could spend the monthly fee for Homer on these books, or spend it on Homer and go to the library. I have recommended this to a friend and I plan on showing it to my sons teacher. Update: I have contacted Homer 2 times with issues. Their customer service is excellent. The first time was minor, and the second time I couldn’t get into Jaiden’s Pathway. They corrected the problem with an update, keeping me informed by email. To my surprise, they sent me an App Store gift card for $10 for missing approximately 5 days of Homer. In a world where customer service is disappearing, this is fantastic. Have I convinced you that I love this app?

  4. 5/5MUST HAVE!

I’ve had this the HOMER app for quite sometime I must say my toddler & I love this app! First off to start it has a bunch of different activities to complete from tracing letters of the alphabet to songs & rhymes. It amazes me how much my daughter learns from this app. The best part of HOMER is the section of art, where your child can create their story! My daughter goes all out she has so much fun putting “sticker like figures” on empty background // picture created for her to decorate. I have a subscription with them it’s about 8.99$ but it’s totally worth it if you think about it. The HOMER app also includes the app Stories, when you have the subscription which is nice like getting 2 for a price of one. The stories is really nice. Only thing is I wish they’d put more. They do have quite a few though so it’s fine for now. The customer service is absolutely wonderful, if needed any help they get back to you & are very friendly. I would love to see more games! More activities to do for sure. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of HOMER. I definitely recommend especially if you have a toddler!!

  5. 5/5What’s more than 5 stars

So I read the reviews and I was won over instantly. I downloaded the game and signed up to pay $8 a month to have my son play it after the free trial. Now my son is super hyper and I never let him have screen time but he’s behind in talking and knowing what he needs to know. So I let my son play this game and at first I’m like is he just coloring but they make it fun with puzzles ,coloring, identify the coloring game with ice cream lava for the kids and at first he skipped them reading the abcs now he stands up and dance and sing the abc in his special talk he does and you can hear him pronounce them better. He loves that he can color with the sticker of the hot dog and burger. If I was to make a suggestion that thing that just have the letters go by and it has what the letter start with as it goes by then it sings the abcs at the end make it into a game because my son was trying to touch the letters and identify them as they go by so maybe like a hide and find with other things not like the game with the balloons but like have a farm background with other things and have them identify the letters as they go by and have it go by fast and see how much they can get as it go by I think that would be fun. Thank you so much for helping my son learn in a fun way I have literally told everybody I talk to with kids about this app.
