As an amateur Egyptologist, I don’t know what I would do without this. Many options for glyph input, great extra features and options, easily the most helpful tool I have. Great for museum trips and self study alike. 10/10, a full dictionary in your pocket for a fraction of the price.

5/5Comprehensive and up-to-date
I am a complete beginner, but have been amazed at how much I have learned so far. I've been delving into the Help section, which is where you find a course in both learning the writing and the language. It's based on a website available on the web, but made convenient on a mobile device. I was moved to write this when I saw that they are continuing to update with new words, even though this is not a subscription based app. I've bought a book it recommends for complete beginners, which compliments the app nicely. *Update: I am so very impressed with the updates for additional words. This is not an orphan app, begun and forgotten. Just the opposite. We benefit from current scholarship

This new version (2.37) incorporates a significant effort to consolidate the main dictionary of its synonyms & duplicates. We have also added a few hundred new lemma links to the on-line TLA database. Roughly one third of the dictionary has been processed, more will follow in the coming weeks. The iPad layout of the TabBar was been restored to its original form. In this version we have also added the "swipe left" to lemma links in the English -> Egyptian Results. That's a 33% increase in the total number of Egyptian words and phrases! All the new entries have been matched to LemmaIDs in the online Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae reference site. To support all these new spellings, we have also added nearly 1,200 new hieroglyph symbols to our custom font and database. Many of these glyphs are somewhat obscure and many other dictionaries only represent them as their respective Gardiner codes. In HieroglyphPro, you can see these words now as originally written. The total number of hieroglyphs in the App now is 4078.

Search results Gardiner Codes that start with a wild card "?" now are listed at the bottom of the search table. Many Dictionary enhancements: More vocabulary, more parts of speech, more lemmaIDs to existing words, reduced redundancy. Based on legal counsel, because of differences in international copyright laws, we are required to limit access to the internal copy of the Wörterbuch der Aegyptischen Sprache by Erman & Grapow to certain regions including the US, Egypt, China and other "life + 50" countries. The EU recognizes "life + 70" as protected so the WB is not yet public domain. We apologize and are pursuing legal workarounds.

To make it easier to scan the results, we have added a side bar index to help navigate the result table. Major improvements in the English (reverse) dictionary lookup and in the MdC Transliteration Search. More accurate whole word matches and much faster searches. English and Transliteration searches also get a fast lookup side index. The MdC Transliteration Search is also updated with smarter matching. Further improvements and new words added to the main Dictionary!
